Would you rather lose like Iowa did or like UNI did

I am a fan of basketball in the state of Iowa. I took a nap after the Iowa game. I have not slept a full night without thinking about UNI game. It was the largest comeback in the shortest amount of time in NCAA basketball history. Not just tournament. I could not watch sportscenter for a week after Iowa loss to UNLV in 1987.

Who outside of HawkeyeNation (and many of them won't) will remember a big loss to Nova? Very few. I mean we lost to Gonzaga by the same margin last year and after a few days, I never talked to anyone that mentioned it. Who will remember the UNI loss to Texas A&M? Tons of people cause it was so unbelievable.

Blowouts in college basketball happen all the time. Losing a 12 pt lead in 44 secs is one that will be replayed and talked about for their lifetime and I believe is the largest blown lead in CBB history. They will never forget it and to top it off it was on the biggest stage and to get to the Sweet 16. Even worse than if it was during the regular season.

Iowa's loss was more pathetic. They couldn't compete. UNIs was more heartbreaking, threw a game away you deserved to win for 39+ minutes. Overall I'd rather lose like UNI. Hold your head up knowing you belonged there. Iowa had no business playing a team like Villanova. Totally outclassed

Iowa knows they belonged their by winning their last game.

Iowa was outclassed, no doubt, for that game. But any team in the history of the tournament who makes it to the 2nd round, deserves to be there.

It's like saying 16 seeds don't deserve to be there because they got killed by a 1 seed. They deserve to be there because of what they did before that game. Now if a bubble team that barely got in got spanked in the first round, maybe they proved they didn't deserve to be there.

Yep. Heartbreaker. But as you say, heartbreaking BECAUSE we controlled 39 minutes of that game.
Like if Frodo took the dumb ring all the way to Mt. Doom and then dropped it down the hill while climbing. And Sauron picks it up and...

We should be playing today.

A friend of mine is a UNI grad and huge Panther basketball fan. She doesn't know anything about this thread on HN. But she wishes they had lost their 1st game because it would have been better than suffering through that loss...FWIW.

Is anyone else rooting for Miami to lose by more than 20? It's the only rooting interest I have in this game.

Turns out maybe iowa was even more unlucky with their draw than everyone thought. It looked like we should be a 6 seed but we not only fall to a 7, we get the team that had a couple bad games late and fell from a 1 seed. The 3 seeds were all terrible this year.

Everyone wants to talk about how UNI got beat in the last minute but forget how we gave Ia St the game in the last minute also.

And as stupid as most people are about geography nation-wide, UN-Iowa will forever stain U of Iowa.

(Oh, wait, no, that was Univ of Northern Idaho...my bad).

Both of them were an avalanche, but definitely would rather lose like Hawks did. I think its easier to deal with losing when you can realize, "Hey this team is just way better than us." (unless that team is like central michigan, ISU, some team that should never be better than us).

I know UNI fans that are still trying to get over the loss and UNI is the butt of jokes right now, no way in hell would I prefer that over the shellacking Iowa took.

As I said before I was over the Iowa loss by half time. "Whelp, we got beat by a better team" was my attitude. If you are a UNI fan their is no way you felt you got beat by the better team. After the loss to Northwestern State back in 2006 and UNLV in 1987 I was sick for a week. That whole "feeling like they belong" thing is stupid, Iowa belonged in that tournament and they had earned the right to be in the 2nd round by beating Temple. They got their butts kicked by a team that was better and on fire, that happens in sports.
