Would you be happy with making a bowl?

Ask yourself this. Are you happy starting a thread asking a question that Iowa fan mocks ISU fan for asking on an ISU message board every single season? Not being snarky here. Just a little perspective.

At year 15 with this staff and given the staggering amount of resources (overall) that have been thrown at this program during those 15 years, 8-4 is my baseline level for satisfaction any given year. I realize this team looks "not good" on paper and that simply making a bowl game might be all they are capable of. However, I refuse to sit back and say that is okay. If we want to be on par with Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue or Illinois I would prefer the funding be diverted into the general scholarship fund rather than being used to overpay coaches and buy shiny new toys--both of which produce mediocre to poor on field results.

Let's also not forget Iowa is playing in the B10, which has not even been close to a top tier league over the past 5-7 years. That fact coupled with Iowa's recent performance makes this 6-6 or worse talk that much more maddening.

8-4 should be the baseline. However, many hawk fans are convinced that a school like Iowa is simply not capable of that year in and year out because there is no way possible we can get the very good players to come here each year.

Hence, you have a fan base that will put up with seasons like last year. They will say they are not happy and are very disappointed, but will not point enough blame at the head guy to say there needs to be a change.

That's just the way it is at present and I don't see the sentiment changing for at least three years. Since 14 should be an 8-4 season, I doubt you'll ever see the hawk fans call for kf's head no matter how many more losing seasons he has. If the team goes 8-4 once every three years that will be good enough even if there are losing seasons in between.

No, I think being snarky is acceptable; in fact, that is the perspective.

Right or wrong I absolutely can not allow myself to even entertain the question. When Iowa has literally every advantage possible over ISU including an massive in-state recruiting advantage and an exponentially easier schedule, and Rhoads is able to get his team to a bowl game most years, to even entertain the idea that any Iowa fan should be "happy" making a bowl game is completely embarrassing to be frank. If I was cyclonefanatic guy I would be posting this thread title and laughing my *** off.

It is, but that is where the program is at now.

Should it? maybe, maybe not

It's facts, like 100 years of history, that determine my expectations....

But you p!ss excellence, always, in all you do. And mediocrity is unexceptable. I should't respond but a little sick of you "calling out" all us loser fans who will "accept mediocrity". NO, I DON"T, but I don't have the delusion that the Hawks will be Perenial power either...why?...well...facts and history.

I LOVE the hawks every bit as much as you do, the endless posts that infer that me and others that think like me somehow just don't have the "winning" mentality, finally got to me. Congrats...if a rise was what you were after. And no, I don't not intend to engage you in debate, so type your response if you must.

I just hope the Hawks can WIN, so this crap can stop....

I would be happy with a bowl game this year. It would make me happy, because 2014 would look even brighter. So overall a 6-6 year upsets me, and is a poor year. As the team stands though, 6-6 would be a good sign, 7 or 8 wins I'd be ecstatic.

Yes, considering that I feel the ceiling for this year's team is 6 wins, most likely looking at 5-7 though. Just my prediction.

I am not calling out anybody. I am just accepting reality like you have. You are right with the history and stats you cite. I am seriously not trying to start anything with anyone and I am not questioning your love for the hawks.

After the result of last season and the scheldule this season I would be happy with a bowl appearance. Really happy with a bowl victory. Being such a young team, even a bowl appearance would give them confidence, time to grow as a team somewhere other than IC, and more practice time. All of which will be huge going into next year.

Bonus would be I just moved to Dallas so if they get to a bowl there would be a decent chance it would be a texas bowl.

At this point I would say ISU is better than Iowa. I am an Iowa fan, but facts are facts.

4-8 Mad
5-7 Disappointed
6-6
7-5
8-4

I struggle with having answers here - gotta see what happens game to game to see - could be that 2nd half of the season they play really well against very good teams - in that case, I'll be feeling hopeful for next season. A bowl would be great way to bridge to next season.

This is well said. Great points.

Given the schedule this year, I will be disappointed with anything less than 7 wins. This team has more than 6-win talent top to bottom. Yes, a lot of the most talented players are unproven, but I will be very upset with the state of affairs if the coaches can't coax 7 wins worth of execution out of the those currently unproven players.

Bowl game? Lol! Once again, short memories. How in the world can someone find 6 wins from this team on this schedule? How can there be ANY optimism after what we saw last year? We lost to a directional Michigan school AT HOME! AT HOME! We lost to Purdue AT HOME! Northwestern owns us and we have absolutely NO shot against OSU, Michigan and Nebby. I don't know how you can even consider Missouri state or western Michigan slam dunks, because they are not.

Good Reply and good point. I think the hawks should be able to win 7-8 games a year on avg, I hated the last 6 losses last year and especially the CMU loss, but anyone remember how Bama had some bad years not long ago, and USC, etc. It happens, last year was somewhat of a perfect storm of close losses, too conservative of game decisions, weird plays like a friggin delay of game on an onside kick, some weird injuries and a new passing game that didnt work.

Let's hope the hawks put together a perfect storm like 2009.

And I want to see them go to a bowl.

I'd be very content with making a bowl game this season even if it's a lower tier bowl. Given last season's performance, the uncertainty surrounding QB, WR, and DL, and the tough schedule making a bowl game would be a huge improvement over last season.

What do you mean by "At this point" do you mean since last year's season, 2012 and heading into 2013? If you are saying ISU was better over the last 4 years and going forward I think you are wrong.

Neither team is that good right now but I hope the hawks find some really good up and coming players .
