Would you be happy with making a bowl?

What happens when an internet poster experiences an unexceptable level of performance from Iowa?

just curious what that looks like

N. Illinois, Missouri State, Iowa State, W. Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, Northwestern plus 3 additional home games with BIG foes..........not too long ago we would be thinking about which top tier bowl game we would be going to in looking at a schedule like this. Now were challenged to find 6 wins and any bowl game in this lineup. Yes, things have definitely changed and we've been led to a new "happy level".

6-6 regular season + a bowl win means a good season to me coming after last year. 7 or more regular season wins would be just gravy.

Cap one or better and I would be happy, Outback or worse and its a let down. I know some people will be happy for any bowl.
Hopefully the tailgating will be more optimistic this year.

I'd be very content with making a bowl game this season even if it's a lower tier bowl. Given last season's performance, the uncertainty surrounding QB, WR, and DL, and the tough schedule making a bowl game would be a huge improvement over last season.

Yeah..I didn't get a free steak dinner last year so it will be a definite improvement.

THIS YEAR - Yes, making a bowl game would be a good step forward from last year.

In general, simply "making a bowl" isn't necessarily quite enough, though.. It depends on what bowl I guess. A 9-3 season and going to the Outback or Cap 1 bowl is much better than going 6-6 and going to the Motor City bowl or whatever.

After last years pathetic showing, I would be pleased if they looked better than a mid level D1 team again. That includes coaching staff too.

they were a mid level team last year? all I saw was the 100+ ranked offense in every category

I think it really depends on how the wins come about. If we go 4-0 non-con and actually look decent. 6-6 will be disappointing. But if we start out say 3-1 and look like garbage but we see improvement through the conference schedule and get to 6-6 that would give a positive outlook.

Is this what you expect every year, or just certain years?

I guess my level of expectations change from year to year. '08 and the outback bowl was way above any expectations that I had at that point. I remember leaving Kinnick disgusted as fans were booing at the last home game VS Western Michigan when we lost that game in '07.

On the flip side a 8-5 finish isn't usually all that bad, but for 2010, it was a huge, huge letdown. The 7-5 2005 year was also a pretty big letdown.

Spot on IMO.

The guy you responded to said that Outback or worse is a let down.. I can't think of many circumstances where playing in the Outback Bowl would be a let down. Maybe in 2010, coming off an Orange Bowl win and having pretty much the whole team back, that would have been somewhat of a disappointment, but that's still a January 1st game. The 2010 team ended up in the Insight Bowl - VERY disappointing.

But coming off of a 4-8 season, the Insight Bowl wouldn't look so bad. At least that would be a step back in the right direction. From there, it would be nice to make a push at the Outback or Cap 1 bowls (or better), but one step at a time I guess.

Makes me want to puke...again.

Why wouldn't you be happy making a bowl after last season
Because 70 teams in America, including lots of crappy ones, "make a bowl" every single year. That is not a significant accomplishment nowadays, particularly with a program featuring the fan support and resources available at Iowa. That is actually a pretty significant underachievement, and it's beyond pathetic that so many people fail to understand that.

It takes a special coach to make you happy with 6 wins. Move over cyclowns.

It just takes people who aren't complete azzhats. I mean the program is where it is. If you will only be happy with 9 wins, you might as well stay at home, and not watch a second of Iowa football this year, and become an Ohio St. fan.

See this is where you go on another cryfest about fandom. If Iowa doesnt ever win I am still going to go to games. Im going to have the tickets one way or another and the tailgating will be great.

No one would be hoping for six wins if Iowa had beaten the teams that they should have last year.

Mr vogs please no cursing its not polite.
