With FSU and Clemson Joining the Big 12...

First off I have never harped on Iowa for their issues off the field. What comes around goes around, ISU fans had to know it was coming with the way they slammed Iowa fans constantly. The thing my friends was they always rooted for Iowa over ISU growing up. Now ISU has a coach that they flat out love and admire. Just from an age standpoint Rhoads and Hoiberg can be easier to relate to for the younger generation.

This is such a BS comment it is not even funny....you can keep saying it, but that sure the heck does not make it true.

ISUer is a true ISU fan, I get that. He is doing his best to come up with arguments that somehow, someway, ISU can get to a level of support, money, viewership, success, etc. that Iowa has had. In the end, he is grasping at straws (i.e.--see age of coaches argument?).

?? I grew up in DM and while I have certainly seen a good amount of ISU support my 20+ years of experience there, I put it at AT LEAST 2-1 Iowa fans. I have often heard ISU people claim that DM is a ISU town and always just kind of thought those people were stoned or something. Maybe they actually believe it? Strange birds on that side. They believe if you say something enough, it must be true. However, its not even close to being accurate.

Given the proximity the DSM area SHOULD be Cyclone country, but it is split right down the middle.

You also left out paying Iowa off their AVERAGE home game attendance for the year.

Last year wasn't as bad (as mentioned in my link) but prior years the difference in home attendance for other games other than Iowa in some cases were almost 10K less.

Take 2009-

Iowa game attendance- 52,089
NDSt- 48,831
Army- 50.532
Baylor- 42,253
OSU- 40,540
Colo- 43,208

Average of 46,242

So ISU uses fuzzy math to screw Iowa out of money

52,089-46,242= 5,847 difference

Iowa in 2009 got $381,000 if that's 20% the total gate comes out to be $1,905,000 which of course if you divide by the average attendance (46,242) that comes out to just over $41.20 a ticket.

So $41.20 X 5,847= $240,896 X 20%= $48,179 that Iowa didn't get and would have if ISU figured their numbers the same way Iowa did.

Also- These numbers aren't perfect I have no idea what ticket price they actually use and was just using the numbers to come up with a $ amount.

You factor in Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines, no question ISU is number 1.

Ames and Ankey do not equal Desmoines/WestDesmoines area.

The DesMoines area is still predominately Iowa, even though the media, who are mostly ISu backers/apologists, would have you believe its even.

Its isn't and its not that close.

They did what they had to to generate revenue. This wont always be the case. If you say it means more to the university financially, so be it. The notion that it means more to the fans is nonsense.

ISU has played second fiddle for as long as any of us have been alive.

The notion that is doesn't mean more to ISU fans is honestly complete nonsense.

Anyone who disputes this is simply being dishonest.

Its just like games against PSU/Nebraska ect mean more to the Iowa fans than the opponents.

no it's not.

someone on this board has to be in TV - the DM market (yes, including ankeny) for a long time was 65/35 Iowa.

way more tavern hoks than isu grads.........

100% False. Its like arguing the sun rises in the west. Not quite sure why ISU people want to hold on to this falacy. Its AT LEAST 2-1 and probably closer to 4-1.

I grew up near the Quad Cities and I knew exactly 1 Clone fan. I haven't been home in a couple years, but it is hard core Hawks over there. I have seen more Illinois fans than ISU fans in the Quad Cities.

So anyway, the temp head honcho of the big 12 was on ESPN last night answering questions about letting Notre Dame in for all sports except football. But only if Notre Dame would schedule some big 12 football opponents.

Carry on with the ISU/Iowa thing now.

Lots of talk about this everywhere with on exception, Notre Dame. There is no secret the Big 12 has been courting them for a couple years now. The feeling is that if the Big East blows up, then ND will have a safe place for all non football sports and then maybe football would join after 2015.

The Big 12 is probably attractive to ND in the past because if Texas gets their little protected empire then ND could feasibly get some ridiculous concessions. Texas has virtually enjoyed all the benefits of an independent while enjoying a la carte benefits of being in a conference, so no question ND, if they were to consider conferencing up, would be interested. I am not sure that dynamic will hold true now that Texas has been exposed for their pimpfest the past decade plus.

I actually think ND joins the Big 12 if they ever join a conference.

It makes the most sense for them. They get special treatment, when in the B10 they are only equals. They are also far from Tex/Ok and the powerhouse B12 S, so would probably get an easy divisional path to the conf. championship game.

BTW, for a long period of the 50's through early 80's, the capacity of Kinnick was a hair over 60,000, so during that long, lean period when we were still averaging 50,000+ the stadium was still pretty damn full.

And I've lived in CR and to claim the fan support is 60/40 Iowa is just delusional if not outright dishonest.

A winning ISU is good for Iowa. A packed JTS is good for Iowa. Some don't think so. Something about in state recruits. Not sure what their logic is, but Iowa's football staff doesn't seem to think so. Although they do throw it our there, and the press and casual observer gobble it up.

I really don't understand this ISU hatred. It confuses me.

What is Texas getting that the rest of the Big 12 isn't getting now? Nothing. Oh you say the LHN sure I will give you that. What other school in this country could get that? Oh let me see: Ohio State and Florida and maybe a couple of other schools. Who cares Texas is the big dog in all of college football. This notion that Texas somehow controls everything in the Big 12 is now laughable. Dan Beebe is gone. No one should be mad that they can garner that much Third Tier money they get from the LHN, it is what it is. If you think Ohio State/ Florida wouldn't love to do this is then you are clueless.
Texas will always have the most money so what? There comes a point in time were it doesn't matter. How many plates of gold can UT put in their urinals?
