With FSU and Clemson Joining the Big 12...

Again just going by what I was told by them. Rhoads is younger and more energetic. Everyone knew Hoiberg everyone growing up.

They weren’t tweener fans friend......they were ISU fans rooting for a winner. Here is the intriguing thing about ISU fans like you (keeping in mind I don’t see clearly with many of these Iowa fans in here either) you’re the same who beat the morality drum over and over and said how rotten Iowa coaches were and they would lose fans and yet here you are with your own disciplinary problems and suddenly your tune changes. You’re all just more of the same; you see what you want to see…..

In that vein I find most of the more outspoken Iowa and ISU fans to be very similar in the way they process things.

All credibility was lost on that part of the post. I have gone to more Iowa games than the average Hawk fan, no one needs to tell me about attendance.

You might want to quote the post that lost the credibility and not mine that was pointing the error out.

Iowa State will always be a bottom feeder in the Big 12.

Frankly, who cares. I won't be surprised if Iowa discontinues the series at some point - Pitt doesn't play Penn State anymore - Nebraska doesn't play Missouri or Oklahoma - Ohio State doesn't play Ohio every year - Iowa won't play Wisconsin every year - Missouri will no longer play Kansas.

I predict Iowa State will be off of Iowa's schedule sometime before 2020. Good riddance

I hope you are right.

Not sure but they averaged over 58,000 one year in the early 60's. So unless they lost a bunch of seating while the renovation was going on there were at least 8,000 empty seats per game.

Really Dude…..I honestly thought about changing the “packed” wording as clearly it was a word based on relative capacity, but I honestly thought people would get the implication. Cleary I should have known better.

Lets paint the picture…..Iowa was so bad they were routinely laughed at yet they STILL by your own admission drew 50K plus fans. That is literally remarkable.

ISU in the 70’s were actually pretty dang good yet they couldn't even half fill their stadium…this stuff doesn’t work quite as well if it has to be explained, clearly others got it.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the series gets dropped. As for ISU always being a bottom feeder, you never know. Anything can happen, sure it doesn't look like they are going to be playing for a title year in and year out but funny things can happen, sure it isn't likely but you never know.

I will say this, as of right now ISU needs Iowa on their schedule much for than Iowa needs ISU on theirs. Like it or not that's a fact.

Because he’d just as soon not engage me and in reality he got the implication even though you apparently did not. He tossed in the other after the fact trying to turn the tide. He knows what I meant.

First off I have never harped on Iowa for their issues off the field. What comes around goes around, ISU fans had to know it was coming with the way they slammed Iowa fans constantly. The thing my friends was they always rooted for Iowa over ISU growing up. Now ISU has a coach that they flat out love and admire. Just from an age standpoint Rhoads and Hoiberg can be easier to relate to for the younger generation.

Honestly, I don't think this is the case either. I don't think either team needs the other on the schedule especially if the bowls do start requiring 7 wins. It's a gamble that ISU doesn't need.

That said, clearly ISU is the only school that really gains from the win. There isn't really much debate there.

The only value the rivalry has is to the fan base and the historic nature of the event which in today's CFB environment comes at too high of a price for each team.

Someone has a chubby. Clueless and so 20 years ago. No team needs each other anymore. But Hawk fans always pop a chubby thinking ISU needs them.

The problem with this is that it doesn't hold true across the board. Young kids when I was growing up in Iowa were enamored with Hayden Fry despite his age. Same is true in Kansas with Bill Snyder. JoePa was old to just about everyone for the past 30+ years.

Not as eloquent as I would have liked, but I agree. Some folks need to just get over that ****. Its ignorant to believe it. If anyone needs that game, its the state in general for historical purposes and revenue.

Touche', and that’s a very noble approach. Too bad some of your compatriots still don't get it.....I also admire your thoughts on the series being disbanded and I believe you are the first ISU fan I have seen say as much.

I could become a big ISU fan if we didn’t play each other. In fact if I stayed off these message boards and read some of the silliness by both fan bases I still could be….:D

The game certainly benefits ISU more than Iowa from a revenue standpoint. ISU charges $90 for the game, if they replace it with a FBS team, the will lose $30 per set at least.

Secondly the gate is split, so when they go to Kinnick, they are getting their portion of a sold out 70K stadium.

Iowa doesn't charge extra for the game, and would make just as much money without ISU on the schedule. They might even make more if they did a yearly game at Solider Field, or went to KC, etc. Plus any exposure by ISU on TV in Iowa would be good for ISU. Iowa gets plenty of exposure on ESPN and the Big10 Newtork.

It is easy being an ISU fan. I go to several of their games, and always root for them. Many of my closets friends are ISU fans, and they root for Iowa, and I for ISU. I was at the Okie St. game sitting with the ISU coaches families, and was a great and fun atmosphere.

They did what they had to to generate revenue. This wont always be the case. If you say it means more to the university financially, so be it. The notion that it means more to the fans is nonsense.

I have went over this a trillion times. I have not missed but 1 ISU/Iowa game in 15 years in Kinnick and JTS and I have also went to at least two games a season at Kinnick through the last 20-25 years. The ISU games is always the most expensive ticket by around $30. Again this season, the ISU game is the most expensive ticket and a similar approach is being taken by the Iowa athletic department as the ISU athletic department making the Nebraska also making that game the same price as the Iowa/ISU game (which is exactly what ISU did). But again, in the last 2 games at Kinnick (not counting this year) I have paid $30 or higher for my ISU ticket. BOTH TEAMS JACK THE PRICES FOR THE ISU/IOWA GAME!!

Single-game tickets: $55 for game against Central Michigan; $60 for game against Northern Iowa; $65 for games against Minnesota, Penn State and Purdue; $70 for Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game against Iowa State and the 2012 Hy-Vee Heroes Game against Nebraska

Well for what its worth when someone says ISU needs Iowa, it seemed obvious to me it was meant from a financial standpoint. It is still one of if not their biggest drawing game yearly and with Nebbie gone…..it would certainly fall in the need category as far as revenue goes.

Where did I talk about anything other than financial, or eyeballs watching the teams?
