Willie Atwood a bust?

Was contemplating Trey Dickerson and his role on this team. Which made me wonder whatever happened to his buddy? Remember when he and Willie Atwood were being recruited and claimed to be a package deal? Well the package fell apart and Atwood ended up at Arizona St. Many on this board were pretty bummed over it. Atwood was supposed to be just the player we needed. I thought so too.

Well checking up on him (creeping as the kids say, I call it scouting:cool:) Looks like he is on a 14-12 7th place PAC 12 team. Averaging 11.6 Min, and 2.7PPG & 2RPG. Shooting 32% from the field and 58% from the line.

Shows what a crap shoot these JUCO kids are. Dickerson and Atwood were both top 10 JUCO players, but both were only recruited cause Fran whiffed on several guys, and they were fallback to fallback recruits, and we are seeing why.

Fran also missed on Riley LeChance (Ellingson AAU teammate) who is having a great Fr. year for Vandy. That is the PG we needed to get when we whiffed on Ulis. LaChance = Trey Dickerson x 1000

33 MPG
12.7 PPG
3.1 RPG
2.4 APG
39% 3pt%

I read quite a bit on here about LeChance not being that good (and that was before he committed somewhere else) so i wasn't all that bummed. Now i am. Thanks for the post A hole. :)

I was probably one of those saying LeChance wasn't that good, and wouldn't be a miss at all when he went to Vandy. :p

So many of the JUCO guys have never been coached properly...no fundamentals, etc. I have stated multiple times that Clemmons is the obvious choice to play ahead of Dickerson. I've always liked Clemmons' game...other than last year when he didn't give a good effort.

But I haven't given up on Dickerson. I'm glad he came in as a sophomore. It gives the coaching staff a year to reign him in...if it can be done. He brings skills we need but he has to be under control and disciplined. Hopefully his role will increase next year and he can be our starting PG as a senior...while a younger player spells him and learns how to play in the B1G.

Yep, see that WR on the Iowa football team. Literally ran about 3 routes & used more as a decoy.

In conference play he is averaging 1.4 pts and 1.2 rebounds in 6.8 minutes. 28% FG and 50% FT. And the PAC-12 is not a good conference.

Anyone have any insight as to why Lachance choose Vandy?

Not sure on LaChance. The rumor going around on Atwood though was he was dominate on his visit in scrimmages, and Fran wouldn't promise/guarantee him playing time. Have no idea if any of it was true, but that was out there

LOL, I too remember being all bummed about missing out on this guy. I think the less I know about recruiting, the better off I am.

Its hard to imagine Dickerson and Atwood, good buddies, both riding the bench at Iowa this season....meanwile Atwood's watching true freshman Dom Uhl playing more minutes than him. Iowa may have avoided a huge distraction

It makes you wonder what the coaching staff will settle for in the spring signing period. Hopefully, they will recruit a great player this spring for next year. The guys they signed last fall all look like they have high ceilings. Personally, I think Fleming and Hutton will make the biggest impact next year.

Agree. (Ostrich);)
