I wouldn't except it, I'd embrace it.I'm fully excepting the demise of ISU as my Christmas present. I'm willing to share it with all of Hawkeye Nation. You're welcome

I think Campbell felt boxed in by Pollard's conservatism on a number of issues. Pollard hasn't exactly updated his methods with the times. When the Penn State job opened up Campell saw the resources and opportunity and jumped ship.
Iowa State had a lot of good years with Campell. Now is the hangover after the party.
Undoubtedly that was part of it, but the stuff earlier in this thread was just blatantly untrue.
His budget at PSU is more than 2x that of Iowa State. Iowa State will be 14 million, PSU has guaranteed him 30+ million.
These type of jobs don’t open often and it’s probably the only one he would get. I don’t think there is more to it than that.
He ain't winning 9 next year if his roster is full ISU port-holesI think Campbell liked the stability at Iowa State. Iowa State could also win in the current Big 12.
9-3 is probably the basement at Penn State. Any lower than that and the grumbling will begin in earnest. There will be a lot of pressure to make the CFP at least twice in the next four years. That will be a tall order.

Just for those keeping track at home, Iowa State, counting the graduating seniors is down 57 players.

I don't think it's so much Campbell leaving that decimated ISU, but rather how it went down. I don't see that happening in Iowa City. Sure there will be some fall out, but not nearly that of epic proportions like were seeing in Ames.I think he'll do as good, or better than any recent PSU coach. I think he'll never match the highs of any previous long lasting PSU coach, but he will equal the later years of the coach who shall not be named.
That being said, ISU fans have to admit the decimation this is causing.
Will/would Iowa be decimated under a similar situation?
No. They would not. Would they be reeling? Of course. But would they have the same fight and challenges on their hand as ISU? Similar. But nothing remotely to the scale ISU is experiencing.
Which just shows that ISU was NEVER close to being the "dominant" program in the state.
Iowa is still national and consistent "top 25" program.
That all being said, this is why I hope that Kirk swallows whatever pride he needs to, if necessary, and understands that when he goes (by his choice of timing, or that his choice of timing might get forced upon him) that he agrees to go without a bad word and in seeming lockstep with Goetz. And they do both do it on an actual timeline due to an existing plan.
