Who has the best chance on the team right now to go pro?

Cartwright, White and Basabe could probably play in a foreign pro league too (at least they are likely on that path).

I'm pretty sure Justin Johnson and Cyrus Tate played in Japan for a bit and those three likely will be better than those two at the end of their careers (Cartwright's end obviously will be this year. Other mediocre college players have played in some foreign pro leagues as well.

+1

White is playing better as a Freshmen than anyone else (current roster) has when they were FR. If he makes the jump that Marble has into next year, he's going to be very exciting to watch... who'd thought Bowen would be a NBA player when he was an underclassmen? I dare say not many... :) I think he has more natural skills then what Matt had as a FR.

This thread should be labeled who has a chance to play in the NBA. Jarryd Cole, Sean Sonderliter, Justin Johnson, Jeff Horner and many more Hawks ove the past 10 years have played professionally but no one played in the NBA. A lot of determining if you play professionally is if you want to play overseas. Many players chose to play overseas for one season and realize they just don't like being that far away from family and quit.

Now playing in the NBA is a whole different world. I don't know if Iowan has any player who is capeable of making an NBA roster. I guess Devyn has the best shot of any but it is probably a very long shot. He is 6'6 - 6'7 and is a wing player, so he at least has the proper height.

I think you are messing up your Bowens. You said Matt, Matt played in the NFL and Ryan played in the NBA.

Ryan Bowen made the NBA which was shocking, but he made the NBA for these reasons.
1. He was 6'9
2. He was 6'9 and could guard wings and power forwards, so he was very versitile.
3. He had GREAT feet which he said were developed playing tennis his whole life.

Aaron White does not have the footspeed to cover 3's in the NBA but Ryan Bowen did.

Basabe. This could be the last year for Basabe. If not, then next year will be the year that he goes.

I would say right now if may keeps improving he has a chance to get drafted. Also Basbabe and Marble Jr i think will have a chance if they continue to develop.

May?????? May???????? May????????? May??????????? May?????? May???????? May????????? May??????????? May?????? May???????? May????????? May??????????? May?????? May???????? May????????? May???????????

Fran has a better chance going pro than May. At least Fran can coach.
May is NOT a pro talent. Even if he does "continue to develop."

He's an undersized post player who has no ball handling skills or jump shot. He has also struggled this year. I don't see anyway he goes pro ever and there is no way he leaves early to do so this year. I could see him possibly transferring (though I'm not about to try to read an athlete's mind) but he isn't going pro early.

Cy and Justin are still playing internationally, as is Brunner.

wait a minute are we talking about which players on this year team has a chance to play in nba or overseas i waass getting confused which is which. i said earlier noone can play in nba. but overseas possibly but nba noone can .. because if we have nba style type players on our team we`re be able to win more games . so far noone can play in nba just my opinion

There have been worse teams who have had players who ended up in the NBA.

Thanks for the correction! :)

White is 6'8" and I tend to think he has more speed then Ryan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't remember anyone raving about Ryan's speed... I've heard Bobby Hansen comment on how quickly White gets down the court on the break, but how much of that is true speed or good anticpation/IQ of the play on his part. :) Is a question I'm not sure of...

Does nobody think that Matt Gatens will at least get a training camp invite? He has size and his defense has really improved. I could see him as a fifth guard on an NBA roster-- not exactly elite company, to be sure, but he can shoot and gives a crap on defense, and it seems there is always a spot for those guys.

Eeeeek. I hope you are joking.

No one on this team will go pro, I predict. I believe my odds in Vegas right now are -650 for that prediction.

ICHawk was talking more about lateral quickness when he referenced footspeed, not straight-ahead, get-up-and-down-the-court speed. Ryan's lateral quickness was always superb and a HUGE reason he was such a good defender and subsequently played so long the League.

Good point.

Absolutely not. Matt Gatens is a very poor man's David Lighty and Lighty is not in the league.

No one on this team really even has a remote shot at the NBA. And trying to make an argument that they do is really just Hawkeye bias.

may has better chance being lifeguard on baywatch with pamela anderson than being nba basketball player
