Where is all the love??

Thats why they were nicknamed the Walking Wounded. The Georgetown game that year was one of my all time favorite games. We were down by 12 pts. at halftime and didn’t ever lead in the second half until Steve Waite had that put back basket to win it at the buzzer! That was as awesome of an ending that I will never forget.

kinda.

Wasn't a "put back". Wasn't at the buzzer. But it was a hell of a game.

I've been on Hawkeye Nation for many years, and admittedly I'm mostly a browser. I come here to see what others think, know, and to celebrate or commiserate with other fans. There were many threads about the team quitting, fire Fran etc. after losing to MSU at home and a tough Gopher team on the road, and frankly after any loss. I jumped on last night wanting to soak in some positive talk about Iowa BB, and mostly nothing. I was so surprised I refreshed the page 4 times.

I hold as much reserved optimism as anyone, but that game last night was fun and they deserve some love. That is all. Carry on...
Hard to forget a WHOLE season of being completely lost on defense...I think that's coaching...no idea after coaching that many years how a Coach let's his team and staff get away with that crap. Let's see how we finish up and perform in the conference tourney AND the NCAAs as it looks like we've just about locked up our invite. Also, how does this team, if coached well, get blown out TWICE against a MSU team that has 3 straight losses 1 to ILLINOIS! So you'll forgive some of us if we are quietly waiting for the other shoe to fall here. IF Fran gets the boys to the 2nd weekend of the tournament you'll have my public apology to Fran up on this board so freaking quick it will make your head spin. Until then he's a middling Big Ten Coach that has his team performing middling mostly.

I loved that game!
Lute trying as hard as he could to remain stoic as he shook Thompson's hand...

That could have easily been goaltending on Shelton, which was called more often back then, in addition to the foul.

NO ONE gave us a snowballs chance in hell to win that game. Especially Packer and McGuire, who may as well been Georgetown cheerleaders during the broadcast.

Sports Illustrated predicted that our run would end against Syracuse, citing their superior depth.

Thompson looked a lot like tennis legend Arthur Ashe back in those days. He would soon land Patrick Ewing and dominate college basketball for a few years, winning a National Championship and narrowly missing two others.

I didn't say we should forget anything and I would tend to agree with what you say, but we've had numerous threads on that. This was a well played game and nothing wrong with enjoying it for a night.

The great thing is we get to enjoy it for a week with so many days before Indiana.
