What's the most idiotic football comment you've heard this year?

I've been there. Take away the dirty, ignorant, racist red necks and it would be a beautiful place.
Look, I'm far from a social justice warrior and I suppose seeing as to how I like to chew tobacco and went to the NASCAR races at Bristol, Atlanta and Darlington this year, my guess is I might even qualify as a redneck.

Before some of my family and friends started moving south and I spent a lot of time down here, I guess I even bought into that propaganda that you so easily recite as well. Did the South have de jure segregation? Yep, sure did. Guilty as charged. Hell, the SEC didn't even integrate for football until something like the '70's. But the Feds got involved and integrated the schools and public institutions and over the course of two generations, things have gotten way better.

Now I'm going to let you in on a secret that you won't fully understand unless you have lived in the North and the South. Sit down. The North has substantial de facto segregation. Massive. On a scale that Strom Thurmond couldn't have dreamt up in his wildest dream. They implemented it using redlining and economics.

It started the minute blacks migrated north - called up there to aid in War industries, break strikes or add labor as the North industrialized after the Civil War. With each wave, blacks were put in certain neighborhoods either through the use of restrictive covenants on land or through banks agreeing on neighborhoods they would finance for black housing. Over time, the whites fled to suburbs. Now in the South, that shit wasn't gonna fly because the Feds are smart and they basically forced most southern states to set up countywide school districts. No way the white folks were gonna move ten minutes out of town and set up their own segregated schools. But the whites in cities like Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, etc. weren't going to be stopped, they hit the suburbs in droves and places like Detroit, the Bronx, the South and West Sides of Chicago, etc. became the biggest shitholes imaginable.

And they got a big assist from the Supreme Court. Milliken v. Bradley put the stamp of approval on those totally non-racist northerners setting up all white schools in the suburbs so long as they were in different school districts.

Now don't get me wrong, I think Iowa is a pretty progressive place, but even Iowa engaged in that shit. Look at Waterloo and Des Moines. Here's the thing you don't understand. The white liberal establishment that runs the national media can't possibly point the finger at themselves, they simply have to find a scapegoat for why all the cities in the North turned to absolute shit. So is the scapegoat all the white people in the DC area who moved to Chevy Chase or the white people in New York who moved to Westchester or the white people in Chicago who moved to Hinsdale or the white people in LA who moved to Orange County? They look around the room - "Hell no, that's us!" So they created a bunch of clips, stock art and narratives of "White only" drinking fountain signs, Woolworth lunch counters, blacks getting sprayed with fire hoses, white people yelling at kids attempting to desegregate the Little Rock schools, etc., etc., all of which tell a truthful historical tale of what happened 50 years ago, but all of which ignore an absolutely despicable part of modern American culture. Yep, that's it guys, this asshole spraying protestors with a firehose in Montgomery, Alabama 50+ years ago is why the murder rate in Chicago is so high. Case closed!

And they have an army of morons like you who eat it up and spew it back out because you just have to look down your fucking nose at someone. So the next time you go to Alabama or anywhere else in the South, belly up at the bar or the counter at Waffle House and strike up a conversation and listen. And try not to be a sanctimonious prick. You might actually learn something.

Jesus...really. Can't you just blame the Clintons like everyone else? One other question...shouldn't you be at a Trump rally laughing at sexual assault victims?

I don't live in Alabama, bud. I'm in Carolina, in the foothills of the Appalachians. Having lived in Iowa and visited Alabama, I honestly don't think you can compare the two because Alabama is so much better. There are beautiful mountains as you come in from Georgia and you have the Gulf to the south. Unless your goal in life is to watch piss poor BCS level football, I'm not sure there is anything you can do in Iowa that you can't do in Alabama, but the activities involving getting outside in Alabama are 1000 times better. I guess if you've never left Iowa then Okoboji and Loess Hills are pretty impressive, though, so keep living in ignorance.
North or South Carolina that will tell us a lot Bubba

The dealership I worked at sold Christian Ballard a Dodge Charger, but his dad paid for it. We wouldn't use his "Pro potential" as proof of income.

You're way off with the secondary "predatory lending" institutions - they still require income, like a job (not student loans) and a lot more equity up front (most have at least 30%). They are for people with bad credit, not for those who have no ability to repay.

Some dealers on the other hand have "Buy here, pay here" where they basically lend money to the buyer and the buyer pays them, not a bank or subprime lender. If these dealers are showing preferential treatment toward football players and allowing them to buy without a job, that might be an NCAA violation (I assume).

Well, that took some guts.. referencing de facto segregation. It's also an issue when it comes to recruiting. Yes, Iowa recruits minority players and has quite a few, but Iowa is automatically blocked out by a portion of the minority population who will never consider coming here. Iowa ranks 41st on Black population, but a number of Iowa counties are among the lowest black populations anywhere. Take away Des Moines, Davenport, and Waterloo and the black population is almost nil.

Locally where I live, there is a segregated area. There are lot's of murders there. Only on occasion does it spread outside of there (actually onto a Big Campus) where bystanders were hit and one killed.

Most on here I am sure have never set foot in a housing project or spent much time in a minority neighborhood. Yes, it's easy to look down on Alabama.

I've been there. Take away the dirty, ignorant, racist red necks and it would be a beautiful place. Dumb football comment.

Which is strange because usually I try to see the other side before commenting.
Here's the deal. I don't think people up here care about color near as much as you think.
What pisses the avg Joe off is, we spent a long time and endured trying to raise the wages up here. The quality of life. Through unions. Through standing together.
So when someone moves up here, or travels up here for work, yeah it pisses all over the avg guy, because they can't stay home and do it themselves. They just want to reap the rewards of generations that have fought for it already.
Which weakens our area as well.
Ta da.
No more Union packing houses. They just brought in immigrants.
Make no mistake, it's not about color or nationality.
Take a look around. The quality of life here has gone down. Towns are getting run down. Neighbors?? What neighbors, they don't even know each other any more.
Wages??? Stagnant for 20 years or better.
Why did this all happen? Because the economic modality changed.
Greed. It's a tricky bastard.
The North is becoming like the South, when it should have been the other way around.

Typically most comments I make on this site during games. Some serious, some to be funny and some to blow off steam.

Interesting how many posts in this thread actually belong in this thread! I thought it would be references to things from outside the thread, but the thread itself is pretty deep with idiocy.

Not only dumb, but bulletin board material.

"See, that's what I'm talking about!!!

Confident with the 127th ranked offense in the country after playing a cream puff schedule (Best team they have played is BYU who is 3-2; they lost to Washington 35-7 this weekend. Their opponents rankings: 111, 113, 62, 25(Iowa)).

As an aside, Iowa will be exposed for the fraud they are. They are 3-1 having played N Illinois (68), N Iowa (79), and Iowa State (74) as well a U dub. When the "big kids come home from school" their losses will pile up.

Back to the Badgers, they rely on defense, Taylor and NO MISTAKES.

This weekend the Huskers only have to continue with Martinez for four quarters (that's 500 yards of offense!!!!), 8 in the box (Taylor to < 5 yards per carry instead of > 6.2) and then GET TWO OR MORE TURNOVERS."
