Not me. I’m blaming this whole season on the handling of the Fant situation. First, Fant should be playing more. That’s absolutely correct. I could go into stats but we’re just not a good team without Fant and Hockenson in there. We’re potentially 3 or 4 wins better if he plays every down. Second, this should have been resolved a long time ago and to possibly lose the team over this is just really bad coaching, imo. I don’t think any other team in the country would have kept Fant on the bench as much as we have. Idk, maybe Alabama could afford to do that but we can’t. Maybe there’s a backstory but don’t see it.

I think people forget the negatives about him when we lose. Even this year he has had some head-scratcher miscues.
That said, that isn't really the problem. Other teams game-plan us to beat our style. We don't do that in the reverse.
He’s not perfect but he is one of the best in the country. He’s much better than any alternative on Iowa except Hockenson. I posted this before but Stanley was 2 for 17 against PSU when Fant, Hockenson and B Smith, all three, weren’t in the game. Our other WRs just don’t matchup physically against good competition.

We basically run the same game plan no matter the opponent. We also never seem to put opponents away. We has the chance to figuratively humiliate Penn State. We could have, and should have, done the same against Wisconsin.
But what was different between those games plans? Virtually nothing. Ths Wiscy loss is understandable given the errors. The PSU loss? Ridiculous, but because we probably did the exact same stuff, other than the fake FG pass for the TD, Penn State adjusted. What did we do? Threw an INT on the 3-yard line because our coach couldn't get a time out, our QB forced a play, and our star TE figuratively-perhaps literally--had his hand up his ass.
And you know what? We, the fans, weren't as surprised as we should normally have been. We've come to expect it.
Just like yesterday. I wasn't "surprised" by our last 2 fumbles. Just never figured it would be two different RBs. Somewhere, someone, hit the motherlode on that "bet".

So you take the one guy who harbors the majority of attention from the D who teams have to adjust their gameplan for and sit him. This so the defense can play straight up and tighten up. Makes sense!!!!!!# WTF!!

According to Kirk, the rules don't allow two tight ends to play at the same time.
It's part of Ferentz's job to resolve situations like this for the good of the team. Something doesn't add up here though. They are still marching Fant out for interviews. Anyway, to have one of the best TEs in the country and not play him almost every down is just inexcusable, unless he's hurt. He could even play WR or SE better than anyone on the team.

Lets be real. He doesn't do well with black skill players on offense. There is a word for that. He doesnt do well with skill players period. Black ones in particular.
