Whar Fant?

3 different times. Let's just say I wasn't surprised when her neighbor mentioned that Mary said "do you know who I am?" during the HOA/road dispute.
That's not really fair. She said that in the context of potential gawkers driving up to their house if the road was fully paved and turned into a real street. In other words: "Do you know who I am? Do you know how many people will drive up to our house because it belongs to Kirk Ferentz?" That's what she meant.

Yeah, because people can't drive up to Kirk's house now.

I think they were also going to have to remove some trees that screen the property as well, so there's that, too. But I do think it less likely people will drive up an unpaved road to someone's house compared to a paved one. Something about an unpaved road, to me, hints of shot-guns spewing salt pellets and snarling dobermans. A paved road seems less trespass-y to me.

The same player that told me Fant announced to the offense that he was leaving after the Kirk sit down, say he has barley practiced since that time.

I think the coaches have given up on Fant. I think Fant has given up on Iowa. The effort doesn't seem to be there. Not sure if this is the coaches fault or Fant's, but the whole situation is bargain basement level bullshit. No wonder we don't get 5* recruits.

Would like to hear a media person ask if Fant has been full practice? I believe he sat some before Indiana game and then played w/ concussion watch. Fant could play that card weekly and that would not fly w/ our coaches. Happens at other programs w/ the 4*/5* guys.

Hope this doesn't end in the DJK hole - talent, but when you don't do things right, usually little NFL future

If Kirk somehow blackballs Fant so he can't get drafted, don't be surprised if the Fant family personally sues Kirk. They're pretty pissed off right now.

The sad part is that if all is true, Ferentz will just see it as another reason to only recruit 2star Iowa kids that are gym rats, high motor kids.

Noahs interview...you can tell hes holding back

I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, but he seems to be handling this very well. I refuse to believe KF is this petty. Am i just drinking the kool aid? Wtf is going on?

Friend of mine is plugged in high with the Nebby athletic department. Word is they had zero interest in the local kid because they viewed him as trouble with major family issues. Guess we’re seeing what they were talking about.

As conservative as Ferentz is i am not buying that. KF is not the type of guy who thinks that the "Iowa culture" will change a dude. He either thinks they are a fit or they are not.

I call BS. You’re talking about a program that would welcome anyone, including LP and the Peter brothers, if it would help them win football games. Nebraska wanted Fant to play DE.

If you actually watch KF's presser after the game, for perhaps the first time in his 20 years two reporters DID actually ask pointed questions about why Fant only played 9 snaps in the 2nd half. When Ferentz gave the standard line, they actually followed up. When Ferentz tried to imply they didn't know the difference between '11' and '12' personnel, they let it be known they knew exactly what it meant, and that even in '11' personnel groupings Fant had been put in the slot in previous games. It was beyond refreshing to hear reporters asking questions beyond "What does Player X bring to your team?"
Now, onto the game. I was at the game, close to the field. In a game in which Iowa HAD to be prepared to throw the ball early and often, NW came out and put 10 -- literally 10 guys -- within 5 yds of the LOS, and had 1-on-1, press coverage along the sideline on Iowa's lone WR. It was perhaps the biggest gift a defense could give an offense. A simple audible and long sideline throw would give you a 66% chance of a long completion or interference penalty. Iowa ran off-tackle. NW continued this defensive alignment for two consecutive possessions and Iowa didn't take advantage. Just mind-boggling. Of 41 passes, I can remember 4 that were thrown over 15 yds...against a defensive backfield that is very short and depleted. Of those 4, one was a TD, another drew an interference penalty, one was caught just out of bounds, and the other incomplete.
Iowa's O-line seems to be taking a step backward -- NW rarely rushed more than 4 guys the entire game (vs. Iowa's 5 O-linemen) and got good pressure on nearly every throw. NW never rushed more than 3 guys both of Iowa's last 2 possessions and they were STILL getting pressure on Stanley.
Defensive adjustments were no better. NW has been running on 1st down probably 80%+ of the time their previous 2 games. Iowa looked as tho they'd never watched tape and noticed that trend...I'm a casual fan watching from my freakin' COUCH and I saw that trend. So what did Iowa defensive coaches do in the 2nd half to stop the runs on 1st down? Nothing. Same 4-3 base D for almost every single possession. Unbelievable.
This game had all the earmarks of an arrogant coaching staff, feeling they could just run their basic stuff because of superior talent. If you hold a team to 14 pts in 2018 you ought to win the game. This loss is on the offensive coaches and the O-line.

Something is amiss. Ferentz's answers are pure dodges. Best guys in the best situations = Max Cooper? Nothing against him, but no way is Ferentz being truthful. You don't have to be an insider to know that's total bs.

Fant isn't playing in key situations, and Iowa has lost 3 straight. Those are facts.

If this is the case then I am glad he will be gone. That is a crappy attitude and if so would be consistent with how KF has always handled these situations. If you don't put in the work then you don't get to play and I agree with it. To me he hasn't looked like the same player since he got banged up against Minnesota. I hope there is more to it where he just isn't healthy but who knows. This season rings of 2010 in so many ways.

What is so frustrating is how some games I believe the coaches have called a good offensive game and they can move the ball and look like they have a plan. Then you have games like this where there is really no reason why we are doing certain things in particular situations. Whether the arrogance reason is fact I don't know but it is a problem. With the current situation we will be lucky to win the last two games.
