Well, well WHAR the whiners?

Comprehension may not be your friend. This thread was started by your typical Jonesian oblivious to 2010-2014. He wants a pat on the back for being a super-fan. I'd suggest you give the troll a pat on the back, since he's mostly just getting pats on the head.

Fans like you are a mystery.............To EVERYONE

You, along with 90% of the other haters don't deserve 'thanks'. Yes, you bitched and moaned about the state of the program but you also stated that KF was done and he was only doing damage to the program. You have not 'been proven right in everything you said' because KF has been able to right the ship, unlike what almost all of the haters said he was capable of. Most of the people who decided not to renew their season tickets did so not to provoke a change in the coach's philosophy, but to get him ousted altogether. So calling someone a moron and an idiot and acting all indignant and demanding thanks is misguided to say the least.

Lighten up Francis. Sometimes a little adversity (the fear of losing your job) brings out the best in someone. So for all of you Kool-Aid drinkers who accepted mediocrity, you are welcome from all us true Hawk fans. (you don't need to say it, we know you losers were just fine with 7-6). And I am happy as hell Ferentz and crew saw the light.

Ya'll need to take of the gold color glasses when watching games. Wisky simply tried harder to lose. Their quarterback got stepped on at the 2 yardline for godsakes. With as bad as Iowa's offense was playing, that surefire TD would have iced the game. The offense from both teams in that game set the B1G back 10 years.

Iowa is not going to luck into 4 turnovers every game. Hopefully Smith's return will spark something in a couple weeks.

You need to give both defenses some credit in the 2nd half. Our offense was sputtering but it was to a pretty good WI defense.

If there was an option in football to tell the ref you want to "take"1 point instead of attempting a field goal, would you be upset with Kirk every time we missed a field goal because in a game where points are important you can't risk it? When you're in a game like that, 7 points is WAY more important than 3, and having them backed up inside thier own 10 is ALMOST as valuable as 3 points. Guaranteed fewer points are not always better than a good shot at more points.

I have seen a lot of posts complaining about that 4th down attempt. But I haven't seen a single one complaining about the other one that was far more risky. It really goes to show that people use the outcome of a call to decide if it was a good decision or not. Is there anything wrong with Kirk thinking "this is going to be an extremely hard fought game in a hostile environment and we aren't going to get inside the 10 yard line often. We really need to walk away with 7 points here".

You said it. We really needed to walk away with 7 points here & Iowa got nothing. Nothing. You are right. 7 points IS better than three and also much harder to come by. 3 points would have been a helluva lot better than 0, too. Could easily have cost Iowa the game. There are good times to go and bad times to go. This was a bad time, needing 3 yards. And by the way, my comment at the time we were going for it was "WTF"?. Can't give away points in a game like this.

Are you one of the same people who feel Iowa State is so inferior Iowa should be able to destroy them every game they play? If so then Kirk was just exhibiting that confidence as well.

Yes. ISU is horrible virtually every year. I do feel that Iowa should beat them every year. ISU did not win a game in their league last year and yet came into Kinnick and won. I said at the time, Ferentz should have been fired on the spot. I still feel that way.

Great start to this year and I hope it continues.

Hawgeyestate should have to buy us all season tickets for next year! If we didn't refuse to pay for mediocrity, he'd still be watching it!!!
Whar all our season tickets? Whar, whar?

That is the only part of this entire post that has any truth to it. The rest of it is 100% false. Feel free to re-read my previous posts and ask questions if you still don't understand.

The missed field goal should be enough proof that we didn't "give" points away. Also it was 4th and 2, not 3. If we score a touchdown there we would have "given" 4 points away had he elected to kick a field goal. On the missed field goal drive, it's possible Kirk "gave" 7 points away by not going for it. As it turned out, we traded the chance for 3 points for good field position and a really good chance for points later. Which we would have gotten had we made a chip shot on the next drive.

If someone says they would prefer to attempt a field goal there, then that's fine. But anyone who says it was a terrible decision really has no concept of percentages.

a win is a win, ugly or not...Yeah, we haven't been stellar each game, but at 5-0, I think the kids are doing just fine, one game at a time, take care of the Illini and that sets up a helluva showdown w/NW (God, I hate purple)....:p
I thought you said one game at a time? Think it's a mistake to look further than one game at a time.

Some posters are dreaming about the B1G championship game in Indy. Iowa would have to improve in a lot of areas (and it would be the most fun to see that improvement) before we could realistically dream of Indy.

I have said from the beginning of all the criticism and the mediocre performances by Iowa football teams the last 5 years that those who think KF has lost his desire for winning due to his contract do not understand the mentality of people who coach at this level. The same goes for Gary Barta, although the progress he has made with athletic fund raising and the resulting improvements in facilities are far and away the priorities in his job...you can think otherwise, and that is fine, but you are wrong. Think big picture, and you will improve your perspective on the Iowa athletic program. If you think GB would hesitate for one minute to recommend that KF be fired, if he really thought that it was he best course of action, you are playing in the minor leagues.

KF has a giant ego. That is what it takes to coach at this level. Ask Bo Pelini; ask Jerry Kill; ask Urban Meyer this year; ask Mark Dantonio this year; ask even god-like Mr. Saban. You can argue that KF's style of O or D is wrong and you may have a point. You can argue that he makes poor decisions on game day, and you may be right, though i disagree. You can argue that he has not recruited at a high enough level, and you may be right, though I disagree.

As Nebbie and WI have found out, be careful what you ask for: You may get what you think is an improvement. And, just to clarify, yes, KF made a very good decision to abandon Jake and go with CJ. He made very good decisions to implement a new recruiting process. He made good decisions to open up the Offense and appoint his son to "offensive coordinator." Disagree? Give me some proof.

I never believed that KF simply stopped caring or no longer wanted to win, either because of his contract or for other reasons, but I did start to believe (and still DO) that from 2010-2014 or so, that KF had lost some of that edge & drive that brought him early success, along with a good assistant coaches. There's a big difference between that and not giving a rip. College football is so competitive that if you let up even at all, you're almost certainly going to start falling back a bit. That's what I believe started to happen to our program the past few years.

KF even said it himself during his post-season presser in January, that he hadn't spent as much time around the program has he could have, and that was going to change starting ASAP. Again, that doesn't mean that he stopped caring about winning, just that he really needed to get after it again.

Hey dumb***, the truth hurts. I read your posts, the defend Kirk no matter what crew were wrong, admit it and move on. You fools that did not think anything needed changing were wrong, admit it and move on. Kirk listened to us malcontents (true Hawk fans that wanted us to change) and made some changes. You are the same dip***** that call into his call-in show.

Hahaha! You are a smart one kiddo. I'm sure Kirk was reading these message boards last year looking for ideas to improve his team. He obviously read that you thought CJ was a better option at QB than Jake. I really appreciate you pointing that out because if it wasn't for you, there's no way Iowa would be 5-0 right now. Well done!

Gave you a thumbs up for making a very good point. Said it better than I did about KF's performance.

Whether he read message boards, or not. He got the message, he has even referenced fan unhappiness. Those of you lemmings who, despite the eye test, believed in Rudock, because "Coach knows best" had no impact on the program, so you should probably just sit down and STFU. So yeah, I will take credit along with many, many others for Iowa being 5-0 right now, you on the other hand would have been just fine with 2-3, or 3-2....because coach knows best. Idiots.

Are you still in high school? Seriously. I feel like I'm arguing with a child. I will spell this out for you one more time and then I am done. Kirk Ferentz' coaching philosophy has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with wins and losses. When the losses start to pile up, fans become unhappy as a result. This may also result in decreased ticket sales and loss of revenue, which reflects poorly on the AD as well. If Kirk Ferentz loses too many games, he will be let go. Fortunately for him, he understands this and has done what he feels is necessary to win more games (change in philosophy, new QB, etc). Wins and losses matter, not message board banter. This is about as clear as I can make it for you.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to believe you are the reason for the 5-0 start, I won't **** in your Cornflakes. Keep wearing your mustard-stained Hayden Fry t-shirt on Saturdays too because that has also been making a difference. Hopefully you will grow out of this eventually.

It is tough being in a battle of wits with an unarmed person, but apparently you are mentally challenged. What do you think the outlet is for fan unhappiness? Yes, reduced ticket sales is one. Message boards are another, it is a cumulative effect that drove change, yes someone was listening, and they got the message, through surveys, through conversations with alums......and yes message boards. I contributed like quite a few alum to all of those. So once again, go back to your checkers board in the old folks home and concentrate...... we got this.

The only thing you have contributed to is crying like a ***** in anonymity on message boards. If you whined to your parents enough and they actually stopped buying season tickets then maybe you can take credit for that. Outside of that, you have made no difference to anything in the athletic department at the University of Iowa. By all means though, continue on with your delusions of grandeur and maybe someday you can come join the rest of us in the real world.

Wait, I thought you were done commenting. LMAO, sit down grandpa. I buy my own tickets, glad they are giving 'em out to you at the senior citizen's home, or are you still watching on your black and white, with the rabbit ears?
