Way to early starting 5 (next year)

Is my memory wrong that Pemsl lost a bunch of weight so he could play the 3 better?
no he's trim down, I thought about putting him there, he's just not much of an outside threat. There are a few guys who are interchangeable.
Pemsl slimmed down to be better suited to guard 4s. He’s an undersized 5 man.

He’s not even close to a 3. He would get run by like he’s standing still by most 3 men, and he can’t play 3 on offense because he has no jump shot. He’s a tweener 4/5, not quick enough to play the 4, not big enough to play the 5.

Who's gonna back up Wieskamp? Pat's slower than Cordell and also doesn't have a jump shot.

Options. Maybe Pemsl looks completely different th as n he did 2 years earlier. Maybe Patrick is actually good. Maybe Joe T and Fredrick are both too good to keep off the floor so we go small more often. If none of those options work, then Daikey will get 10 minutes there. Hipefully if that one happens, he plays better than he did this year.

I mean, Ellingson did just lead Drake to an MVC regular season championship from PG off the back of his shooting.

Lower competition, sure, and I share your reservations, but I think JBo can recognize a fellow shooter.
Some players just aren't D-1 players. Nothing wrong with that. He was NOT a D-1 PG. And not everyone can handle pressure the same. I knew a lot of players that could beat me in games/sports, with nothing on the line. Put a little something on the outcome and they folded faster than a lawn chair.
I thought we were talking about Fran's opinion, not JBos.

Good Q. They either go big or go small. Could have Joe T, JBo and Moss or CM. Or go with any combination of our bigs. We can do either of those depending on who we are playing against and what type of D we'd prefer to be playing.
JW I suspect will play even more mins next yr and be leaned on even heavier. So I don't see the conundrum of how they sub for him being the hugest thing ever but it'll be intriguing game to game to see how they do it

Connor could back up Weiskamp at the 3 too. He's no threat from behind the arc but he'd work in a pinch. I fully expect to see Patrick backing up Weiskamp from the 3. He should RS but I don't think he will.

Had that convo with Rob last week and he seems pretty certain PM isn't redshirting and playing right away. I agree with you he needs a year or even more of weight room time before he'll really be ready but I bet Rob is right...

With Cook back

JBo (guard)
Joe (guard)
Cook (forward
Garza (forward
Nunge (center)

Without Cook

JBo (guard)
Joe (Guard)
Moss (Guard)
Garza (Forward
Nunge (Center)

JBo/Connor/Joe T
Moss/JBo/Dailey
Wieskamp/Dailey
Cook/Nunge
Garza/Kriener

10 guy rotation and I wouldn't want to go any deeper than that. Joe T is really the wild card. He may afford JBo the option to play off ball more. Are we better with Joe T and JBo off ball or will we be better having JBo continue playing the point with Dailey playing the spot minutes at wing. Whichever scenario is better likely determines the rotation we see next year.

Also, Connor and his baseball future still have to be considered. Is there any chance he turns his sole focus to baseball? Also if he does that, is Patrick more willing to red shirt since it won't impact him losing a year of playing with Connor? I hope we don't need to rely on CJ or Pemsl.

You hope we don't have to rely on CJ? I hope he's our best guard. If he could somehow be an upgrade over Moss we will be a way better team.

I really don't understand what Connor Mac brings to the table. Ok point guard, no threat to score. Opposing Defense can drop back when he has the ball outside. He turns the ball over and quick players run right by him. How on earth was he rated a 4* I'll never know. If JT and Frederick are good, Connor needs to hit the batting cages.

Conner had more offers than Pat has.

I don't see Toussaint coming in and starting right away. He might be used sparingly, possibly as defensive specialist, until he gets his feet wet.

Unless injury this is should be our starting lineup.

PG Bohannan
SG Moss
C Garza
PF Cook
SF Wieskamp
This to start the season.

He shot 33.3% from three the last 6 games averaging 2 attempts per game. And he wasn’t hesitating like he had been most of the season.

Cook - 25
JBo - 28
Garza - 25
Moss - 20
Wieskamp - 30

CMac/Joe T - 24
Frederick/PMac/Dailey - 16
Kriener/Nunge/Pemsl - 32

I don't see a 13 man rotation, so unfortunately we may see some defections unless Fran does a masterful job of getting everyone to buy into their role.

Frederick and PMac look to be a lot of the same player and CJ already redshirted. Maybe PMac ends up redshirting. Dailey may not want to stay.

Kriener and Pemsl are similar and will more than likely share minutes, while Nunge, depending on his rebounding ability, may be used in place of Garza if we want to play big on defense and small on offense.

We know what CMac brings to the table, and unless he really improves his shot he will just be a sub for Jbo to give Jbo a breather and a little toughness. Joe T could steal all of those minutes and then some depending on his play. If Joe T doesn't have a jump shot and doesnt make smart decisions as a freshman, he will sit. If he is quick and doesnt have a shot but can get in the lane, he will take all of CMac's minutes. If he can do those things and can shoot, he will take all of CMac's minutes as well as some of Moss's. I wouldn't get too excited here, I think he will be a nice piece to be able to put some ball pressure on some opposing quick, small guards for 8-10 minutes a game, like last year Watson from Nebraska, Bone from TN, Jenifer from Cincy, Simpson from Mich, etc., but I doubt he will be a knock down shooter.

Wieskamp is the most important player on the team and will get the bulk of the minutes. Jbo is right there too. Lets hope Cook comes back as a rebounding machine and Moss stays as well.
