Way to early starting 5 (next year)

Obviously not a burner, CJ Frederick is probably quicker than Ellington was. But CJ did start in HS as a 6’0” PG before a growth spurt (plus his shooting) put him in the SG category. So he can probably handle pretty well.

Not to mention CJ was the Kentucky POY. Don't forget that Indiana, Xavier, and Penn State all had offers out to him at one point.

I saw that article too. PMac seems to want to not redshirt. I think the only way that he redshirt is if he gets hurt or a bad illness. I do think there is a part of his game that would benefit Iowa right away. He seems to have pretty good handles and passing skills for a player his size. Although he didn't shoot a lot of threes his senior year, he showed that he will knock down shots if you leave him open or give him too much space. He needs to add some serious strength though to be able to finish at the rim in the BIG 10.

150 lbs...that boy is redshirting

With no PTL its going to be awhile before anyone sees these guys play. I wonder how the season would of went for Iowa if they had a PTL last summer.

I wish they would do an open practice or intrasquad scrimmage open to the public in the summer so we could get a glimpse of how some of the new players look.

Totally agree. Should do something at Carver for the fans. Could get the women’s team involved as well leading into a little 5 on 5 inter squad game for the men’s team with “even” teams. A lot of schools do that.

Got it. I agree that he could add some weight. I was curious what some other stretch 4s weighed that are similar heights. Jarrod Uthoff is listed at 6-9 220. I remember him being about that weight when he was at Iowa too. Brandon Ingram is listed at 6-9 and 190. Kevin durant was listed at 6-9 and 220 before being drafted but we know he is really 7 ft. Also the Greek Freak was listed at 6-9 190 before being drafted. Point being that if PMac could gain 15 or 20 lbs of muscle (before the season) he would be a similar body type to some of those guys of a somewhat similar skill set. They are all much better shooters though. So maybe he doesn't need to add as much weight as we think.

Probably the exact same. These kids play basketball year round. The only difference between the PTL and everything else they do during the off season is fans see it. I'm sure there are plenty of scrimmage sessions that aren't "no nonsense". What is the PTL anyways, around 6 games? No way that makes even a slight difference. I can get on board with the overseas trip making the team over confident, but I just can't agree that the PTL mattered at all.

I think people are being a little hard on Connor McCaffery. He played very well in NY, and showed what he was capable of doing. The most important thing is that he really was playing his first year in the B10. Getting sick like that and not being able to do anything is a huge thing at his age. You fall behind everyone around you who is working every day to get better. Unless you are freak or a 5* player...that's something that has to be overcome.

He's going to get better...more physical, and be a better playmaker. He has the skills to limit turnovers, and he can shoot free throws, so those things warrant end of game scenarios when we are protecting the lead.

I think he has a role. He can be a physical guard, who won't blow by too many people, but he will back down smaller guards, and work his way to the basket and get fouled...like he did alot this year. You can also post him...as he's physical. Remember, players work on deficiencies every year...I'm sure he's going to work on the three ball to get greater consistency. I think he accomplishes that.

Honestly, if he were to have a huge baseball season...there is also a possibility that he gives up the basketball thing if he becomes a major league prospect.

Depending on Moss / Cook, if Toussant / JoBo, JoVies, Moss / JoBo, Cook (only if he's not allowed to leave the blocks or face-up more than 6-8 feet from the hoop), and Garza are not on the floor together in these combo's for at least 25 minutes (C-Mac, Nunge, Pemsl, Kriener, Frederick should avg 12 or less / game, as needed), then it will be another bad coaching job, resulting in performance < potential.

I liked the PTL

Got a chance to see the Lads in action close up

We would go early set chairs up along the wall at the half court line

Go have lunch and get back in time for the game

I believe I read somewhere that CMac is the top MLB prospect in the state of Iowa and 7th best in the BIG 10. That was before he had even played a baseball game for the hawks.
