Wait...so could we end up playing Bama in the Citrus now

We’re at #16, which is the 2nd highest B1G outside of top 12, just behind Michigan. But Michigan can’t go to the Citrus based on rules. So if OSU goes to CFP, Wisky goes to Rose, and PSU goes to Orange...which is how it would fall out as of now....I think that puts us in the Citrus against Bama.

Do you think those players in the locker room would love a shot at Alabama or do you think they’d be more motivated to play a weaker 7-5 team?

As a fan I want to see them match up against Alabama. This is the first year in a while that Alabama looks beatable and I’d speculate the Alabama players won’t be all that thrilled to be playing in the Citrus Bowl.

Again... perception and reality. Why do you think Alabama looks beatable? Because they lost a 4 point game to an amazing LSU team when they turned it over twice heading into score? Because they lost by 3 at Auburn when their kicker missed a chip shot to tie? Most of the advanced metrics still have Bama as a top 4 team in the country.

Bama’s lowest point output of the year against a P5 team is 35. Iowa’s highest point output of the year against a P5 team is 30.

The Iowa players should absolutely have motivation to play regardless of the opponent. Chance for three strait bowl wins. Chance for a ten win season. Chance to finish ranked in the top 15.

But we do lose something. A chance (for almost all intents and purposes) at a 10 win season, finishing top 15 nationally, winning a bowl trophy. I just don’t understand this logic that if we happen to be on the same football field as Alabama it’s somehow great for the program.

Agreed. No game is a given. To me it just comes down to percentages and risk vs reward. There is a way better chance we get hammered by Bama than there is that we win, again in my opinion. To me there is real value in winning a third straight bowl, having a 10 win season, finishing in the top 15, that’s something the coaches can market on the recruiting trail.

I guess I just find it funny that there seems to be a group of posters who somehow think Bama is “down” this year because they lost a couple really close games. I’ve brought out the stats in this thread and I believe changed a few people’s opinion on that. This Bama team is extremely good they just happened to lose a couple close games, over a 10+ year run of dominance like they’ve had that’s bound to happen eventually.

I think, if we got Bama, all things considered (and won) it would be better than any bowl Kirk has won (and played in), and even possibly a better match up than any Big Ten team potentially playing in the Rose Bowl this year. It would be like playing a playoff team/typical championship team....just not in the playoffs. I agree, it would be a tremendous game for our program and a tremendous win for our program if we won that game. Outside of Ohio St, Iowa would hit the jackpot in bowl games this year with a dream match up against Bama.

That's how I see it. Basically probably KF's best win. Because it would be a game against a team that while isn't in the playoffs, was only inches away from it.
