Vandeberg broke his foot today

This is an opportunity for Iowa to use this injury and come up with a game plan that takes jNW by surprise. If we go into a shell and try to run, run, run and run some more, because our best receiving WR is out, then that will hamper our run game in 2 ways: 1) jNW will expect this based on past history and load the box, 2) by definition (at Iowa), to be a starting WR, you need to be a top run blocker. So, if we game plan to pass (trust that Scheel and J. Smith will perform) and play pass and roll the pocket, we could catch jNW off guard and, perhaps, smoke them.

Which do you think Iowa will do? Turtle up, or open up?

I sincerely doubt that will lift your spirits.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY.

Now the WR on the roster will be pushed to step up their game. I don't think there is anything else that would have caused the WRs to step up other than something like this.

We could see addition through subtraction here.

Definitely agree with this sentiment, there has to be talent buried on that depth chart. There always is on KFz coached teams. It's just a matter of who... young? Boyle?

I posted from the first page and didn't see your post before I posted mine. I obviously agree with your sentiments.

Time for J. Smith to step up. Time to take the training wheels off some of the other guys. Next man up, let's go.

Time for some of these guys to put on their Big Boy pants and step up. I'd like to see Beathard really take charge of the huddle & take charge. One man does not make a team in football.

Iowa needs to clean up some of the penalties. Iowa has really gotten some at really bad moments in the game and either took away scores (see Daniels runs) or were untimely drive killers. This has been much of the problem the last two games. I think they will find a way to create some offense. If they do that & clean up a bit, I think they will be fine.

I disagree. We have a RB averaging over 5 YPC and another back averaging over 7 YPC.

W.Michigan ran for 200 and Nebraska went for over 300 yards on the ground.

We ran for nearly 300 yards last year on jNW. Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct answer. Run the dang ball.
