Vandeberg broke his foot today

Let me hypothesize something. Is it possible that this actually helps the team. Forces the coaches to get creative? The ferentz eras best coaching occurred in seasons where Ramon Achoa was our best wr and sam brownlee was our only running back. This could bring out the best in this team.

I hope Greg Davis realizes we need to now run the ball 40-50 times a game. All hands on deck with the RB, that means we need to get Toks carries as well.

So I'm gonna start it. Medical redshirt for him? Counting bowl game he be under 30% games played.

Bowl games and conference championship games don't count in the 30 percent, it's regular season only. Just like you don't get to lower your percentage in basketball by playing a bunch of NCAA tournament games if you make a run in March. It would be totally unfair for someone to get an extra year just because they are on Alabama instead of Purdue for instance.

We need to play like Wisconsin, 65% run. Run defense needs to step up. Maybe put King in for the long ball but I'm dreamin' on that one.

KOK did that magic act but maybe GDavis cant. As someone said if we have 3 good TEnds go to a short passing game with them and they can still block.

I think McCarron, Smith and a few others can do the job. Is Boyle one who can step in?

We should completely abandon the passing game, and run the ball 40-50 times a game. If you run it that much, the play action game will be what gets these WR open.

Teams will really be loading the box now to stop the run.

And that is different than now, how? They always load the box, you keep them honest by mixing up inside and outside runs. Also when you load the box, if you make someone miss, you house them.

Was thinking the same thing. They are gonna have to improvise. They will have to get WR's involved in a middle and deep passing game. And they will have to use multiple TE sets.

Get off your arses, coaching staff, let's see what you've really got!!

Coach Davis is more creative than people give him credit for. He used the 3 tight end passing set. He brought in flea flickers and a few other trick plays.

It is a good point about housing it when other teams load the box. With so many defenders close to the LOS that will happen a few times per game. It is terrible when refs take away those long runs with bogus penalties. That can seriously impact a game. I hope that has been addressed with the Big 10 conference and it does not happen again.

Lastly I am confident in the young Iowa receivers. They will step it up and I have no doubt about that. It happened in 2003 also. One thing that I think they will add is passes to Peter Pekar. Teams scout him as a blocker, if they sneak him out be should be wide open. Later on defenses will have to account for that and it will help open things up for the other players.

Iowa has been getting less than 100 yards per game from WRs. Vandy gets 3/4 of that. Can't run the ball 65 percent of time if you don't have a WR threat. I don't know why some of you call this a developmental program when 1 not spectacular but decent WR goes down and there are no answers other than running and TEs. Unless you are Vernon Davis, TEs are relief valves in the passing game, not the main point of attack unless the D gives it to you. Fat chance of that now. Fitz will be all over that.
