Uniform article on Bleacher Report

The hawk uniforms look just great now. There is no problem with once in awhile having a different skin on the helmet or maybe trying a different look but let's dont go Oregon here and change for every game.

The hawks have been old gold and black before the steelers were invented. Hayden changed the piping and trim on the uniform to look like the steelers and than is fine, keep the main game to game uni the same. But every once in a while for a special game change an item, like a couple years ago around Veterans day IIRC they used the military look helments.

Completely agree with the article. I've always thought that with Iowa's color scheme and logo that Nike could have a hay day putting together some sharp looking unis. I agree that those throwback unis were just meh, but those were designed by the school so no surprise there. Iowa doesn't have to go Oregon and change every week, but if Iowa were to come out with something that really got some attention (in a good way) that would help with the perception of the school being old and tired. What's it really hurt? and recruits love that stuff.

I've seen some cool ideas thrown around. The away jerseys here look almost Green Bay Packerish. I don't want to go away from ole reliable too much either. But throwing in something new and different every now and then is a great thing to do for recruiting if for nothing else. You'll never get an entire fan base behind something like this so just do it once in awhile.

As long as there are no feathers on the shoulders I would go with a neat design once a year at home and once a year on the road.

You see what I mean ^^^ People that care more about tradition then recruiting are a part of the problem..

Exactly. I wouldn't even change the current unis cause I do think they look good. Just allow Nike to come up with something that can be used a few times a year. Something that gives a little more pop than usual. Similar to MSU busting out the chrome helmets every now and then. They're already doing alternate unis as it is, I just think they could be done better.

Uniforms are solid. Don't change them or the look. If a team does, it says that team has no tradition and is searching for an identity. Recruits need to understand that. Hawkeye uniforms are the draw. Coaching and recruiting is the weak link.

Keep the Tigerhawk helmet, obviously. Time to evolve from the Steelers unis as far as I'm concerned. The road uniforms are horrible.

By having a sweet looking uniform in the eyes of the players and younger fans for a couple games a year is NOT going to say any of that at all. If you go all Oregon Ducks and not wear the same one twice then ok yea I hear you. But not what most of us that'd like to see are suggesting. As far as recruits needing to 'understand that' goes that's just not even close to how it works. Those kids could give a rip about how a teams uniforms have stayed the same forever like a Penn States or not. You either keep up with the Joness or you don't. We have one of the sweetest football/practice facility in the nation now. This would add to getting better recruits and by not doing it only slows it down more then it already has been. We have enough disadvantages when it comes to recruiting let's control what we can. It's the coaches and fans that think the way you do that need to 'understand that'

FTR, I love our unis and the subtle change they made to them last year (or was it the year before); but I could definitely get behind this home or alt look for a game or two a year. Perhaps that would look good under the lights against Minny.

Totally agree....

Logo is too round....looks like a 5th grader won an art contest designing it....look how much better the logo looks at Carver mid-court since they stretched it some. And PLEASE ditch the 5 inch high numerals on the back of helmet, along with the tall white knee high socks....go back to short black socks like some of the Iowa RB's wore back in the mid to late 90's.

The uniforms are the least of our worries. We could start by getting bigger and faster players that wear them.

I don't care if they come out in a jock strap and 5 buckle overshoes, as long as they beat ISU in Ames this fall.

Lose the stripes on the sleeves. Too reminiscent of those god-awful feathers on the shoulders of a number of seasons ago. But I love the away uni a lot.
