Transfers??

I'm curious who if anyone decides to transfer either this off season or the next. With Hutton and Moss being added to the mix when it comes to players being a 6'5 wing type player I see 4 guys (those two and Ellingson & Fleming.) fighting over essentially 2 spots of getting real playing time all off the bench I don't see them starting but who knows. I guess it remains to be seen if Moss can be a pg type like Williams seems to be being molded into. But most of those guys seem like a SG/SF more than anything. I think for Ellingson he's just gotta hit shots. He's Oglesby 2.0. That's about all he's going to be out there to do. So if he slumps at that with what few shots he gets it might be tough for him.. The other guys have more athleticism and over all games (how much more remains to be seen) Fleming seems to be the odd man out at this point unless he out plays Ellingson... My guess one of those two are going to have wandering eyes be it this off season or for sure the next...

Is this a post where we can say who were are ROOTING for to transfer?

If that's the case, Ellingson! PLEASE!

Other than that, and with Connor paying his own way, I am good with the roster.

Then, with those 2 open spots, get a best PG we can, and the other best overall basketball athlete we can.

It is all a gigantic question mark, and its not an efficient use of scholarships currently. The coaches have seen Moss and Hutton and we have not. I think its a complicated issue, in that likely none are well-rounded players at this point, and each has different strengths and weaknesses.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say Hutton can defense and be athletic, but can't dribble or shoot outside of 10 feet, whereas Ellingson can shoot a little and doesn't make mistakes but does nothing else well, it's really hard to figure out which player is better.

It's one problem with not landing many Top 150 recruits. Our players tend to be lacking in something; they are athletic but can't shoot (Hutton); or they are athletic but are short (Wagner); or they have good skills, but limited footspeed (Bohanon), or they have skills/height/foot speed but are built like pre-adolescent boys (Uhl/Baer). Puts a lot of onus on coaches to mix-and-match.

Why is Conner paying his own way? There will be transfers this is the current landscape of basketball.

I just say Connor should pay his own way so we can have TWO free scholarships available. That's the only reason I say that.

Right now, we have ZERO. Crean Ellingson, Connor can pay his own way, then we have 2 scholarships available.

As far as Moss, Hutton, and Fleming. Haven't seen enuf of those 3 to form any opionions really. I have ALWAYS liked Fleming's upside tho, he seems to have a "swagger" to him I really like as well.

He faced great competition in HS, and tore up the PTL last summer. Not sure why the kid couldn't get on the floor a few minutes this year.

Another failure on Fran perhaps? Fleming has a ton of upside and can't find the floor, meanwhile, we throw D3 Ellingson out there to the wolves.

Some moves Fran makes really makes me scratch my head.

I'll be very disappointed if either of Fran's kids pay their own way. They could go anywhere in the country for free, why would they pay to go to Iowa? It's not like we use all 13 ships as it is, I don't know why we would need 14 players worthy of one at the expense of Fran. Unless that what HE wants to do... but I hope he doesn't. Transfers happen a lot of time due to roster management...ie, the writing on the wall that is laid out for them by the coaching staff. I don't think Iowa is anywhere near short on scholarships.

I feel bad saying this because we're talking about student athletes but there's no denying college sports is a business so I guess I'll use that to lead and justify what I'm about to say...

I hope Ellingson transfers. However, I'm not sure it's going to much matter because I think if he or somebody else does transfer, there is a good chance the scholarship is used on Baer so we still basically have the same roster.

I really hope Fleming sticks the course and excited to see what Hutton and Moss bring.

I don't ever want a player to leave unless that's what is best for them. In BE case, it probably is. If he wants to stay and he works hard, he may contribute by his senior season but from what he's shown most of the fans, it doesn't seem likely. He is the likely suspect but it hardly works the way we all think it will. I think Fleming is staying, his body language on the bench seemed to reflect that as does his twitter. But you never know, again, the coaches lay it out for them and I think give them the hard cold facts when they meet in the off season.

Baer has to get a scholarship, no way we don't give him one if one is free. If we have 2, then yeah I would like to see us get a point guard.

The wild cards are the two that redshirted last year. Who knows what their skills are and how they'll fit... But like another poster mentioned these guys have strengths to which make them role players. None of them seem to be like Marble (yet anyway) where they do a bit of everything you'd like that position to provide. I think Ellingson would be at the top of my odds chart to transfer with Fleming not far behind if I were to guess. But then again I thought Clemmons had one foot out the door what ws that 2 yrs ago? All I know is if your role is shot making and you can't do that very well your not going to play very much.... And when your playing backup to Jok your not going to get big mins. It'll be an interesting off season to see how it shakes out.

I hope they all stay. Guys get hurt all of the time. A RS is often beneficial. I have no idea why everyone wants Ellingson to leave and is so hopeful Fleming stays. Ellingson played ahead of Fleming and it seems just about everyone wants Ellingson gone...not me.

Ellingson had a tough go of it this year. Doesn't mean he doesn't have talent or can't play. Just means he needs more time to figure it out. I hope he stays and because the shooter Fran thinks he can be. Guys get better. Peter Jok went from 36% last season to 43% this season and took a lot more shots this year.
I watched Fleming shoot about 100 shots in the practice facility this year. The dude was unbelievable. So I like him too. But it's one thing to shoot over chairs, and it's another doing it with BIG defenses in your face. Hopefully he figures it out too.

Right now I think Fleming would give up 4 points on defense for every 2 points he gives us on offense. Jok was the same way as a freshman. This is true of a lot of high school "scorers." I think Fleming will be fine...just wasn't ready this year.

I respect your posts and basketball knowledge but I don't see how you can't see the potential for Fleming is way more than Ellingson. I just don't see what you see in Ellingson. He doesn't have D1 athleticism so even if he is a great shooter, I'm he can't get the shots.... and from what I've seen this year, even when he did get the shots, he didn't knock them down.

Maybe because Ellingson can shoot well i guess he can have yet to see it, but that is all he can do, not good on D slow can't get his own shot, i saw little more out of Flemming but Fran never wanted to really give him a chance, so want to see more what he can do, have seen what Ellingson can do and it more suited for D2 ball!

I don't recall Fleming being more of a defensive liability than Ellingson

Windsor is the smartest guy on this board. Just ask him.

But seriously, he is very knowledgable. He just sucks at predictions. I wish this weren't the case.
