Tracking 2012 Class Offers

Top three so far for Garmon are Illinois, Iowa, and North Carolina (if memory serves). Unfortunately it seems like he really likes Illinois. Given their luck placing Mendenhall and LeShoure in their very recent history .... Zook actually has something worthwhile to sell him. Furthermore, they have Scheelhaase at QB ... and he's a cool enough cat that he'll be able to help them lure in some good skill guys.

Static on Twitter that Butch Davis is getting fired today.

He was and RB Greg Garmon said this to UM recruiting guru TomVH after the firing...

RT @JContiz3: RB Greg Garmon told me Butch Davis being fired from UNC definitely changes things. His top three was Iowa, Illinois, and UNC.

Hopefully, this means we're #1. Certainly KF's position is rock solid in IC and Ron Zook's seat is very warm. That may factor in his decision.

The production that the Illini have had at RB, under Zook, has been pretty impressive.

However, just as you indicated, with Zook's seat being pretty warm ... that could potentially help Iowa's cause. We'll have to wait and see about that one ...

On DT Danny O'Brien. Iowa may not be out of it for him. UM, will likely get DT Ondre Pipkins who looks to be the #1 DT on their board. They've told O'Brien that they'll probably only take one DT, but he seems to feel they may take more than one. Tennessee has been recruiting O'Brien hard and it's likely he'll make their final three(according to his quotes he's about to cut his final 6 list to 3) along with UM. I'd say Iowa still has to make up some ground to make his final 3 but, it's not out of the question. Either way if UM fills up with Pipkins and O'Brien that's one left team to fight for Sheldon Day(who may be better than either) with. According to 247 Sports, ATH Tevin Coleman (6', 178 lbs) out of Oak Forest, IL is planning to visit Iowa City for the first time this week. I don't see him on the list here, but he has an Iowa offer and I see him being an Iowa commit soon.

Here's some film. He looks like he could use some polishing, but seems to be a solid athlete. Check out the stiff arm at the 2:19 mark. He's #1 in white/black.

Looks like we're still very much in it for TE Will Johnson.

GH: Are you thinking about narrowing your list to five or have you even thought that far?

WJ: I like Iowa, Minnesota, Auburn and Ole Miss. I am still open to whatever happens. It is hard to say. I don’t have a close five, but I like those four schools right now for who is recruiting me.

GopherHole.com - Osseo TE Will Johnson Trying To Narrow List

From what Ferentz was saying during media days, it sounded like Iowa was losing ground with a TE prospect. Thus, given that Johnson was one of the few candidates there ... I'm inclined to believe that it was him. Thus, my impression is that Johnson has been cooling on Iowa ... and, in part, that is due to the fact that Iowa took on 3 TEs in the last class.

However, I hope that Will Johnson does his homework a little bit more thoroughly. I believe that the odds are that Fiedorowicz could end up leaving early if he ends up playing at a really high level over the next 2 years. Furthermore, the odds are also pretty good that one of the TE prospects will end up moving over to D ... my guess being Krieger-Coble. Also, I think that there's a good shot that Hamilton sees early action as a TR FR and, since Duzey only has a WR background, it might take a while for him to more fully develop into the TE spot.

Thanks for the catch ... I thought that I had him on the list ... but clearly I forgot to add him. He's had an offer for quite a while.

Most of what I've heard suggests that O'Brien has been a pretty big Michigan and Tennessee lean. It would be awesome if we made up ground on Tennessee and Michigan were to pass on him. If so, we'd have a shot.

I hope so (that Coleman ends up commiting to the Hawks). He appears to be a very versatile guy. Definitely one of those "glue" guys that ends up making a squad that much better.

Looks like Illinois' DT Vincent Valentine visited Iowa City yesterday. He was/is supposed to have some grade issues. Jordan Diamond, as we know, visiting today. Diamond skipped the UM BBQ on Saturday saying he was "journeying south" with some teammates(Chicago's Simeon High, a good prep producer). wondering of IC was part of that journey of teammates. Always good to get a connection with a prep power.

Wow! Michigan's BBQ is one of their really big recruiting functions.

Also, many recruiting outlets are indicating that Valentine appears to be a Nebraska lean. I hope that that isn't indicative of how Coe might be leaning after he gets his AA at Iowa Western.

A name to watch (although it appears to be a LONG shot) is Hiva Lutui. 6'2 285 lbs OG from Texas. He doesn't appear to have a current Iowa offer but one site has shown him narrowing down his list to 5 schools, Ariz. St., Oregon St., Utah, UCLA, and IOWA. He is a 4*/3* (depending on the site). Guy looks like a punishing run blocker. He has stated a possible desire to return to Southern California, and he also has a cousin already committed to UCLA.
