Tracking 2012 Class Offers

Jordan76simeon Jordan Diamond
Razorback nation is very underrated... loved it... thanks for the hospitality... Thinking bout coming back.. Heading to Ole Miss tomorrow!

I just did a little bit of "research."

Through the past several recruiting classes, Arkansas hasn't pulled in ANY guy from the Chicago area. Furthermore, the guys who they have landed from Illinois or near Illinois ... have seemingly all been from the St. Louis area. In other words, proximity was something that arguably counted in their favor.

When checking out their track record at developing O-linemen ... under the current coaching staff, they currently have 4 O-linemen in the NFL. Of those guys, ONLY ONE was drafted and he was drafted in the 5th round. Not ONE of their OTs has been drafted. Furthermore, TWO of the guys are newbies ... and NONE of the guys are starters.

The point here being ... Iowa not only owns a proximity advantage over for Diamond ... but they also own the NFL advantage too!

Arkansas isn't the team that worries me with Diamond.

Yeah ... me neither. My impression is that Michigan still is likely the team to beat. If not ... my bet is that Wisky will try to make more of a push too. Aside from those two team ... I'm not too worried.

Anyhow, if Iowa can land Gregory ... and if Gregory, Fleming, Johnson, and Ward all recruit him pretty hard ... then I gotta say that I like Iowa's chances.

Current prospects on 24-7 sports recruiting page that list Iowa as "hot":

- Quanzell Lambert [LB] (competition: Alabama, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma)
- Canaan Severin [WR] (competition: Boston College, UConn, PSU, Virginia)
- Hiva Lutui [OL] (competition: Arizona State, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah)
- Danny O'Brien [DT] (competition: Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee)
- Nathanael Lohn [DE] (competition: Michigan State, Stanford, Tulsa)
- Alex Kozan [OL] (competition: if they offer, tOSU)
- Brandon Sheperd [WR] (competition: Missouri, Oklahoma State)
- Robert Gregory [QB] (competition: Arkansas, Eastern Michigan)
- Ruben Lile [WR/ATH] (competition: Toledo, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin)
- Will Johnson [TE] (competition: Auburn, Minnesota, Mississippi)
- Anthony Morgan (competition: Arizona, Oregon ... Oregon isn't listed as having offered)
- Laron Taylor [LB] (competition: Cincinatti)
- Tevin Shaw [ATH] (competition: Clemson, South Carolina ... neither team has offered)
- Tevin Coleman [RB/ATH] (competition: Georgia Tech, Indiana)
- Malik Golden [ATH] (competition: Boston College, UConn, PSU)
- Mike Shoff [OL/DL] (competition: if they offer, Nebraska)

I really enjoy 247sports.com. Seems like everyday they have updates on prospects from Iowa and every other team.

247 is doing a really good job of pushing their way into the market dominated by Scout and Rivals. They were the first to break Jaleel's commitment and the first to break Ward's. Not only that but you are correct that they seem to have daily updates where Rivals and Scout sometimes lags behind.

A remark to make concerning Kozan. As seems to be apparent, at least currently, is that Iowa's main obstacle to landing Kozan is the possibility of Ohio State offering him.

However, if you check out Ohio State's current roster, it's past OL recruiting, and their OL in the 2012 class ... it seems like they're pretty set when it comes to interior linemen. It appears that they're in bigger need of OTs at this juncture. Right now they already have 2 OG commits in their class and I'd be honestly rather surprised if they were to take on another.

Thus, my hunch is that the tOSU offer never comes ... and that then possibly gives Iowa the advantage it needs in order to land Kozan.

Hopefully, either way, he'll conclude that the coaching stability(Finckel is an interim coach) and the player development at Iowa, especially on the OL, is the better choice for him.

Former Marmion, Ill offensive line standout Graham Glasgow, originally an Ohio State football recruit, is now part of the Michigan football program.

Glasgow was ticketed for Columbus, Ohio, to be a preferred walk-on offensive lineman for the Buckeyes, but had a late change of heart in June in the aftermath of former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel's controversy-laden resignation in late May.

By the end of June, Glasgow was in Ann Arbor, Mich., suddenly a member of the Buckeyes' detested rival Wolverines. The 6-foot-6, 316-pounder is listed as No. 61 on the Wolverines' roster.

For more on Glasgow's change of plans, check out Thursday's Kane County Chronicle.

Seems like Michigan is getting lots of Off. Linemen. Don't know if Mr. Glasgow is on scholarship or not but he certainly is a late addition to their offensive lineman group. Another consideration for Mr. Diamond

He can always contact Bobek and ask him how cool it was to lose his coach before he arrived on campus:D

Rumors have it that Sheldon Day has committed to ND. He was thought to be a big ND lean for a while, so not surprising if true. A shame, I would've liked him here but, next...

(It's been confirmed Day to ND).

Can anyone pick out and name these 2011 Iowa incoming freshman? Nico Law may be the guy crouched, and Walsh the muscular guy on the far right front row? or is that Cooper and the guy in the far back grey tee, Walsh? Jordan Lomax in the red "DeMatha" shorts. McCall, middle front row baseball cap, w/guns? Think I'll wait for a who's who listing. My memory of connecting names with faces is already poor.

I'm thinking Walsh is on the far left(next to Lowdermilk?), Cooper far back, left/center. Don't know who the huge dude on the right is, maybe Raymond? Is Canzeri in there somewhere?

The "muscular guy" on the far right is Melvin Spears. The dark haired guy to his right is Tsopanides. The guy leaning down up front is Law.

I believe that the guy furthest to the right is Krieger-Coble.

The guy just to the left of Lomax is Campbell. The guy up front and to the right of Lomax is Bullock. The guy in the second row behind and inbetween Lomax and Bullock is Rudock. The guy who is in the back behind Rudock and just to the left is Hamilton (I believe).

The guy to the far left is Hillyer. Right next to Hillyer is Lowdermilk. In the back row, just to the right of Lowdermilk is Fisher.

The guy up front, just to the right of McCall is Collins. Right behind Collins (and just to the right of Alston) is Duzey.

The smaller guy up front who is just left of Spears is Canzeri. The guy in the back, behind Canzeri is Blythe.

The guy behind and to the right of McCall is Alston. The giraffe behind Alston is McMinn.

That's all I got so far ...

Spears passes the eye test with ease. Kid looks like he could step in and play tomorrow. McCall is going to be fun to watch. I'm assuming he tall black guy in the far back near McMinn is Raymon. Cooper or Walsh appears to be blocked out in back. A little bit of a departure here but, I'm wondering if we're still pursuing Southfield, MI's Brandon Watkins. I would think if we're still interested that he'd be a good bet to commit Friday and if not at that even soon after. It appears to me that L.Taylor is a very likely to commit to us, Lile is likely to very likely to the same later and Watkins? If we're still after him to do the same.

I have no idea. I haven't heard a whole lot of chatter about Watkins these days.

The high school coach of Spears said something to the effect that Spears was a guy who was pretty much already "physically ready" to play immediately play on the collegiate level. I just wonder if he's fast enough to remain at LB.

The kid behind and to the left of Lomax looks like Macon Plewa.
Back row to the left of Kriger-Coble looks like Brendon Boerm.

FWIW-it looks like DT Tommy Schutt is going to visit UM. He had been a big ND lean but with the commitment of Day, and another DT, Jarron Jones, expected to give his commitment. This could send some dominoes falling Iowa's way. Danny O'Brien is a UM lean, but they seem to prefer Ondre Pipkins and at most will take two DT's. If they get Pipkins, and Schutt that pushes O'Brien to Tennessee or Iowa.

OK, now it's being reported that Schutt is being asked by the UM staff not to visit this weekend. Pipkins and/or Brien may be close to committing.

The plot thickens-it appears UM picked up a DT commit recently and my not take another DT. That commitment is probably Pipkins. If so that may mean both Schutt and O'Brien could be relatively open. Although, both may be a little overrated. Especially, Schutt, a five star who seems to have gotten a pass from UM and ND. That said would like either of them next to Jaleel(move Darian to RDE?).

Danny O'Brien-told the UM recruiting guru, TomVH that he isn't committing to anyone soon that he's going to pare his top 6 team list to 3 and take official visits to those three. Iowa, was one of the 6. I'll be surprised if UM and Tennessee aren't 2/3rds of that final three list. Hopefully, Iowa can get the last spot. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/tomvh-quick-danny-obrien-update-not-related-schutt
