Tracking 2012 Class Offers

Could be a big day for Iowa early next month.The Cass Tech guys Iowa is in on, Laron Taylor, Leviticus ("Brings the Old Testament") Payne, and possibly Ruben Liles will announce at the "Sound Mind Sound Body" and "We Lift as We Climb" media day in early August. Free article linked...FWIW, Rob Howe said that Leviticus Payne tweeted him when it was announced that Iowa had a commitment worried that Iowa may have taken a defensive back commitment. That would seem to imply he wants to commit, or at the every least, seriously considering it, to Iowa and doesn't want his spot taken.

Also, as far as I know, Iowa still has a standing offer out to Watkins. I'm wondering if he's going to end up announcing when the other guys do it.

It has been pretty quiet on the Faith Ekakitie front. Has anyone heard anything about this kid lately? I know Flemming and Jaleel have been all over him. Lets hope we can clean out Illinois.

Came across a kids highlight video and seems very impressive. Fits the mold of the type of player Coach Wilson says Iowa is looking for. Kid is screaming for a BCS school offer sounds like and would prolly commit instantly. Only has MAC offers right now. Hard to tell but competition level doesn't look the greatest, but he is all over the field. Very sure tackler and good game speed for a 6'3 215 lb frame. Looks like he could play any of the LB spots, prolly Mike though. Thought i'd play coach for minute and share it with everyone.

One of the guys who I'm a bit intrigued about is OH LB, Mason Monheim.

I also wonder how Jake Schany looked at Iowa's summer camp. He didn't get an offer ... but I imagine that that was partially because the coaches liked their chances with Laron Taylor. Of course, I'm still wondering if we're intending on picking up any other LBs in this class.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet or not but it looks like Laron Taylor is going to decide in Aug sometime.

Of course that doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't made a "silent" commitment and is simply awaiting the press conference mass announcement day.

The "Lifting as we Climb" and "Sound Mind, Sound Body" organizations are sponsoring it. apparently the camp that is part of that is (The Detroit camp happened last week) is huge, "The Biggest Football Camp in the Country". I see three Iowa coaches were scheduled to speak(Wilson, P. Parker, and E. Campbell).That's great expouser for the program. In the earlier article by Allen Trieu, he mentions that the date will be early in August but, has yet to be determined. Interesting that Brandon Watkins did attend this camp(along with L. Taylor, Leviticus Payne) so homer along with HAWKeye777 makes me wonder if he is one of the players expected to announce. Noticed that Jordan Diamond was also expected to be at that camp. Looks like a huge annual event that the Iowa coaches are all over...

An article by Trieu on the camp. Reads like a who's who of State of Michigan prospects and some big out of state kids too.

Not to beat this to death but, Brandon Watkins high school(Southfield) is where the camp is held. He attended the camp. His two best offers are from Cincinnati and Iowa which had coaches who taught at the event. I assume if he's ready to make a decision he'll be announcing with the rest at the mass announcement day sponsored by these organizations. I assume the PC will also be held at Southfield High. So, the way it looks like right now Iowa will have at least three prospects(Leviticus "Brings the Old Testament" Payne, Laron Taylor, and Brandon Watkins) who have them in their finalists with another, Ruben Liles, possibly making his commitment there as well. So, potentially a very big day coming early next month on the Hawkeye recruiting front. How big is it that those Iowa coaches are involved in that camp? Pretty damn big.

What intrigues me is that the three Iowa coaches who were there ... each seem to have a guy (or two) who could end up pulling the trigger for Iowa.

Lile = WR recruit (potentially projects at LB too) = Campbell's recruit
Taylor = LB recruit = Wilson's recruit
Payne and Watkins = DB recruits = Parker's recruits
