If you are going to consider Minnesota's victory against Iowa on their home floor a "big win" then you should consider Iowa's victory over UNI on a neutral floor the same.

I just threw it in there for comparison sake, MN could Richmond, Stanford, @FSU, SDSU and NDSU if you want to add UNI.

Wish I believed Iowa was good enough. A resume is where you put your strengths forward.

I might be missing something, but IL and MN did beat some middle to low middle major conference teams in their non conference schedule that Iowa did not.

Otherwise if applying for a job of major accomplishments you wont say.....I almost got this done. Those don't count.

So here is what you list:

Equal resumes? No, not really.

You have to include Norfolk as they soundly won their conference. Even if you took out FSU and NSU, the resumes are clearly stronger. You can't really include UNI as they just didn't get it done this year. The Mo Valley was weak.
 
Go back and read my reply again, no where am I suggesting Iowa has a better resume than either Minnesota or Illinois. In fact I said it would be dumb to do so.

However, I have watched almost every game and I see a team that can compete with anybody on any given night on the road or at home. Granted they lost some games they had control of and should not have lost but that still does not mean Iowa cannot play with the best and if you can play with the best then you belong in the NCAA tournament. But again, the committee does not use the eye ball test, they go by data and on paper according to the RPI profile Iowa is the 75th best team.

Do I think Iowa is better than Minnesota, based on what I have seen absolutely. But had I not watched any of the games and you just put that data in front of me then probably not.

MN is a team with zero bench and a couple of really good players, one of which has trouble staying healthy. That's the story of MN. IL has no bench coach to manage the players he was given. I don't see how he'll ever win...except his recruits are quite good and he is recruiting Illinois well which has been missing. IL and MN have done some spectacular (as well as horrible things this year) Iowa is young and has a lot of fundamental building to do and really hasn't done anything spectacular other than rising from the rubble which is quite an accomplishment. They really haven't done anything horrible (I don't count MI as Fran gave up to make a point).

For most jobs if you had 2 openings and pick from 3, which do you chose? Employers today want the rock stars not the everyday solid guy in general. There is upside but you need results now.

I guess I want the guy who is still working hard and producing results (Iowa) not the guy who worked hard early on but has been loafing the last couple months (Minnesota).

Regardless, I think this discussion about Iowa and MN/IL is nauseating and pointless. Howbout we compare other actual bubble teams?
 
I was at the Norfolk State game...a friend invited me. Frankly I thought NSU was a pretty good team at that time and probably were the better team on talent than IL.

But except for Iowa fans, the results are exactly what is missing. A resume of low hanging fruit doesn't get one hired in today's market. That is the problem and calling names won't make a dif....not one bit.

The Mo Valley was weak, yet you say you have to include Norfolk State as a good win because they won their conference (Atlantic Sun) soundly.
Everybody seems to be hung up on the RPI thing so the Mo Valley was weak as the 9th ranked conference in the country? What the hell was the Atlantic Sun as the 26th ranked conference?
