Tickets going fast..

The "standing" mentality crowd is pretty sad. No one has ever suggested being loud and standing during key plays was unacceptable. But maybe people who are short and those who cannot endure 4 hours of up/down, standing movements could be accommodated. Like fathers, grandmothers, small kids, pregnant women, arthritic people,etc.,etc. How can you possibly know why sitting is preferred or required for some to attend. Maybe you have a litmus test for all manner of judging fan worthiness to attend but maybe the STANDERS should stay home and stand in front of their big screens for 4 straight hours - problem solved. Many "sitters" have done a lot and spent a lot to make this program entertaining over the years. Maybe they deserve the right to see the game. Leave your ego driven, boorish behavior at home and consider everyone.

You cant talk to the Standers like that. Sitting is boorish.

A crowd that stands and is going nuts during a game will leave a much better impression on a recruit than a quiet crowd that won't get off their arse. my wife is a KU alum and we attened a game at Allen Fieldhouse every year. That place is crazy during games and is a major reason why they get 5* recruits every year.

I can understand having a problem with the fans who stand the entire time. And I understand that not all the "sitters" are people who are just too lazy/snooty/whatever. But I'll never apologize for being brought to my feet by a great play, or for a big possession.

what's more selfish, the "standers" who want to do what they want not caring about the people around them, or the "sitters" who want everyone around them to do what they want to do? I do understand both sides of this argument but at least the standers are doing everything they can to help their team

13,500. Let them stand...let them sit. I don't care. Just nice to have great crowds at Carver again.

I knew there was a reason I don't spend more time on message boards, thanks for reminding me why! It's amazing how difficult it is for some people to differentiate the line between rowdy and obnoxious.

Take a look at the top basketball programs in the country and the home advantage they have in their arenas, people are not sitting on their hands! Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina...they are up on their feet, jumping up and down, and making noise. It is very intimidating for the opposing teams and it attracts recruits to go to school there to play basketball. Wouldn't you want this here at Iowa? Iowa used to have that back in the days of the old field house and when Carver was first built. With the recent troubles the fan base has gotten old and they still go to games but want to sit and watch. This is not a friggin movie your attending, or a play, but a sporting event! Both basketball and football are charged atmospheres where the crowds can have an impact on the game.

When I go I want to be part of that and you take away part of my enjoyment when you tell me to sit down and shut up. The day it hurts for me to stand or I am unable to then I will enjoy the games in the comfort of my own home and hope someone younger is in my spot creating that atmosphere. You want to sit and watch a performance then buy tickets to go see a movie. I would rather see 7000 screaming/energized fans at a game than 15,000 old farts sitting there watching and politely clapping.

It's pretty simple: If you look around you and everyone in your immediate vicinity looks like they want to punch you, you're probably doing it wrong. (or sitting with visiting crowd)

Nah, this is not happening to me because I usually get placed in front of an old fart who can't see so I feel bad and only stand when everyone else does. Nothing upset me more though than when I finally get a seat in the very top row and still getting told to sit down because there was an old guy sitting in a chair above me. Seriously, if you cannot get up and down the steps and be part of the crowd then take advantage of these awesome HDTV's and enjoy a better view of the game from the comfort of your own home.

When has an Iowa basketball game or football game ever taken 4 hours? During all the timeouts and the halftime I will sit down or I am off to the bathroom. There is no way I have stood for 4 hours straight.

If you are someone with those conditions then why would you go to a sporting event like this in the first place? If you are just going to sit there the entire game, don't you get a better view from home watching TV? BTW, my small kids love it when people are up standing as they get fired up like the rest of us. Either they find a way to look in between people or will hang on to me and stand on their seat. I took 4 little boys to the NW game and they had an absolute blast even though Iowa lost.

They put seats in arenas and stadiums for a reason. You can be just as loud sitting as you can be standing. I totally understand if the students want to stand the entire game, more power to them. That being said, I stand for big plays, which is what I think is pretty standard. Anyone who wants to stand the ENTIRE game and is not in the student section should move to the student section. I don't mind standing but don't see the need when there isn't anything particularly exciting going on. I just don't see how a person sitting who is being loud and cheering is any worse that someone standing and doing the same. Standing helps the players somehow? I think it's the noise that makes the difference.

I did notice at Carver they had several rows behind the students draped with tarp. I'm guessing that was so the people behind them didn't have to stand the entire time, which is a great idea.

This atmosphere will be very different tonight than what people are used to at Carver. Tonight Carver Will be rocking!! Let's hope that Iowa plays to keep the fans in it

they need designated sitting areas. its the only way to solve this problem

I agree, I wish they would have an old fart section so they can just sit and politely clap. They can make them premium seats (to avoid getting put in front of a standing crowd) and do like football, the top donors get first dibs.

Hawkcentral posted 11,800 as of 11 am today. They cited the sports info office who stated "there is no reason we shouldn't reach 13-14 thousand". http://hawkcentral.com/2012/03/13/tickets-going-fast-for-nit-game/

Ya know.....you can sit and cheer loudly. Why is it that some of you think standing=cheering loudly, sitting=clapping politely or making no noise whatsoever.

I've seen people stand at Kinnick AND NOT MAKE A SOUND...no clapping, yelling...nothing. And yet I've lost my voice from cheering loudly sitting down. Who'd a thunk it?

As for the person who said the Fieldhouse was loud because everyone was standing and cheering.....WRONG! I recall many a time where the place was deafening....and without everyone standing. We used to stomp our feet on the floor (while sitting), which really made a racket.

Why have seats if not to sit in? Who the heck wants to stand for 2-3 hours straight? Maybe they should have standing room only seats for the inconsiderate.

83Hawk, have you ever watched a game of the top basketball programs? Duke, Kansas, MSU, North Carolina, ect ect there fans are not sitting they are standing and a lot of times jumping. You cannot sell me on the idea that you can generate the same excitement in an arena with everyone sitting. The atmosphere in CHA over the years has sucked, the game I went to earlier in the year hardly anyone was making any noise. Everyone was sitting and when something good happened everyone clapped. People were turning around looking at me from my nose bleed seats because I was up hopping around trying to get people going. We need that excitement and energy we generate in Kinnick and get it in Carver.

Everyone standing/jumping? Hmmm...not in the games I've seen.

Also disagree re: Carver. Beginning the middle of last season, I've noticed the crowd being louder and more excited. Of course, not so much in the patsy non-conference games or blowouts, but the atmosphere is definitely getting better. Winning and an exciting style of play will do that.

The future is looking bright!

I will agree with you there, the NW game had a lot more excitement than the earlier game I went to. Tonight should be awesome, I am bummed not to be there.
