Ticket Pricing

Just renew your damn season tickets people. Like it really sucks that bad to have to go to Kinnick for 7 Saturdays per year, spend time with friends and family, drink beer, eat grilled meat, enjoy the out of doors...experience something? Yeah, recent on field performance has been mediocre at best, but give me a friggin' break with all of the whining and grandstanding.

Sit on your fat *** and watch from home if you want I suppose, but wearing that decision like some badge of honor is a little much. Remember kids, when the going gets tough...quit. Save me the "I'm making a statement to Barta" story. It's a load of bull ****.

Cyclone fans approve the hell out of this.

There take that Ath Dept. I dont blame you as a matter of fact what would the AD do if everyone decided not to give their per seat donation. They cant move everyone into the endzone. Wow what an interesting way to 'strike'.

It is a very brilliant concept that hawkdrummer has thought up.

Well hot damn... I am writing a check for $10k and I get $70 bucks in room temperature hotdogs... my 17 years of donations will FINALLY payoff.

Wow, I didn't see this coming. I did figure the that they wouldn't raise ticket prices, but giving $70 in concessions and 30% off for a purchase at Herky' Locker room, is a BIG give away. Seems the Athletic Department understands what kind of challenges they are going to face selling tickets this year.

Fans of the Hawkeyes who renew their season ticket order or become a new season ticket customer by Friday, Mar. 13, won't pay more for the game tickets that they did a year ago - the price of a season ticket for the general public will remain at $395 for the 2015 season and the price of a season ticket for a faculty or staff member of the UI will remain at $325. Fans will, however, receive $70 to spend at the concessions stands at historic Kinnick Stadium next fall and 30 percent savings on all they purchase during one pre-season visit to Herky's Locker Room, the official team store of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Don't know how "brilliant" it is OoTH, but that's what I'm doing.

Guys like you and I bring light to secondary factor; the affect this has on the Iowa City/Coralville economy outside campus.

We usually get a hotel for one night, sometimes two...and drop some coin in local pubs and restaurants. This is important money to the IC/C area.

While it's true that there have been some new hotels built over the last 5-10 years, I'm surprised at how much easier it is to get a room than it was in the early 2000s. And if you look at the lot directly west of Kinnick on games days...it will shock you. I strolled through lots of empty space last fall...even at Homecoming. As recently as 5 years ago... you couldn't buy a spot in that lot. It was packed. (I know my perception is accurate as I started bringing my new wife to games in 2009. She asked this year...what happened to all the tailgating outside the stadium? This place used to be crazy when you first brought me here.)

Barta and Mason have killed the Golden Goose. The more I think about it, the angrier I get.

Hey ****** bag, I have been going to kinnick for almost all of the last 40+ years. I am done with it from a season ticket point of view until they get it that football is about dominating the other team. Scheme it, get the players , and work it to beat teams.

We've had season tickets since 1991 (first as students, now as staff) and are dropping from four seats down to two. It's just too easy to find extra, cheaper tickets. Frankly, I can't get myself to pull the trigger and give them up completely.

I can see where the $70 olive branch was well intended. If season ticket holders don't feel appreciated, this is at least a token. It's appreciated when viewed from that perspective. If it's their way of keeping season ticket holders around, it's ridiculous.

What they should have done was kept the damn 2 deeps to themselves, forced SOME kind of coaching change, and never let Kirk in front of a microphone again.

It doesn't come close to how it used to be. It's a sad shell of it's former self. I'll have to go down there during a game this fall, to see what it looks like with 20K fewer fans.

I got my renewal in the mail yesterday. You have to renew by March 13th to get the $70 and 30% off. There is a renewal date after that you can still get $35 from the concessions. I can't remember it off the top of my head though.

Got renewal, yesterday. Noticed something ... it said, "Your per seat contribution is $400 ..." I've been in various seats in Sec 103 for 10 years. That is a $200 / seat section. I actually took the time to confirm last year's renewal form (which said, "Your contribution is $400 ..." not "per seat") and even looked at I-Club, online. Yep, still $200 section.

My cynical reaction was that was how they were covering the concessions and Hawk Shop discounts. After checking it out, I think it's a (very misleading) typo. Do you think the U is gonna try to let it slide and see if anyone actually pays double their "privelege fee"??

Not that I really care; I resolved to not renew months ago. Just tore it up and tossed it in recycling.

I'm not mad. Actually quite relieved with decision to not renew.

Maybe it won't hurt the locals as much as you think.

Due to schedule and other obligations, I'd usually go up, stop for 1 at Hilltop, park and hustle to stadium for the game. Afterward, would usually leave fairly quickly because 1) obligations or 2) crappy performance and wasn't in the mood but to just go home.

I'll have a less restricted schedule this fall and, since I love Iowa City, I'll prolly wander up there on a few game days to bar hop around the ped mall. That's something I might have done maybe once throughout the season when had tickets. 100X the atmosphere; fun music; booze / beer / pervin' on some co-eds. Can watch the game on TV and watch a different one when Hawks start to Ferentz the game away. If what you say about getting a room is true; I'll actually look to get one. (Didn't even try in the past cuz knew it would be futile.)

That's just one non-renewing fan. I bet there's a couple thousand more with the same game plan -- spending their entertainment dollars downtown, rather than on tix and at Kinnick. That doesn't even consider the huge influx of all the students that are not renewing. The vast majority will end up in and around the ped mall or on the strip eating, mingling and spending.

I think the community will be just fine. The U will definitely feel the pinch.

I follow you, but I think you underestimate the number of fans who come from out of town. Lots from Chicago-land, Minneapolis and other locales that won't be in town at all. I'd suggest these people are disproportionately represented in the empty seats...because going to a game is a much bigger investment. Not just in dollars... an IOWA game becomes my whole weekend basically if I come down Friday and get home late Satuday night. Or Satuday/Sunday. A lot of people are willing to make that sacrifice for a great team or exciting event... but not for the crap we've been watching recently.

Yes, many of the locals go to the pubs regardless...that's true. But they don't eat out extra and get hotel rooms. And even the guy that drives over from Davenport or Des Moines...for example, represents somethng in lost revenue for Iowa City. A good product in Kinnick is good for all of Iowa City. And conversely, a weak one is not good. Pretty tough to seperate Iowa City from the U of I...they're undeniably interdependent.

I hope someone actually calls them out on that. Lol

That is certainly odd, mine did have the correct contribution level. I will be interested to see how many renewals they have before March 13th. I will probably always renew, 4 years of Saturdays away from Kinnick in ACC country was awful.

I want Red Pom Poms

Exactly. They pay people to come up with this crap.

So...the red pom pom thing really hits home with me. What systematic ineptitude. As a Madison, Wisconsin resident, I really got pretty wide eyed when I walked into Kinnick that day for the big game against the Badgers and saw red pom poms.

The free sugary drinks will not get me to renew my season tickets. I spend more in gas getting to the games...by far.

Anyone remember the old WKRP in Cincinatti episode when they dropped turkeys from a helicopter as a promotion? Must be the same group...

Or the same group who asked fans at the Iowa Women's game last weekend to wear red in support of heart health. Only we were playing Indiana. Can't make this up.

Lol. I can hear Barta right now, after he hears that he's been fired. "As God as my witness....I though Kirk Ferentz could FLY!"

If you really want to send a message, renew your tickets and drop off your donation directly to Barta as a flaming bag of poo on his front doorstep. That seems an appropriate response.

Nice on one hand, but very sad on another that it has come to this. Another sad thing is how Hawk fans failed to step up to the plate for this meeting....just remember that there will be no room to bit** when we get another Berkeley type as President.

Nobody cares, at all, what is said in these meetings. If you put a gun to every Regent's head you'd be lucky to find one that read a word.

Purely pro forma so they can say "we sought public input".
