Ticket Pricing

Exactly. They pay people to come up with this crap.

So...the red pom pom thing really hits home with me. What systematic ineptitude. As a Madison, Wisconsin resident, I really got pretty wide eyed when I walked into Kinnick that day for the big game against the Badgers and saw red pom poms.

The free sugary drinks will not get me to renew my season tickets. I spend more in gas getting to the games...by far.

Anyone remember the old WKRP in Cincinatti episode when they dropped turkeys from a helicopter as a promotion? Must be the same group...

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"

Iowa's stadium food is boring, bland and mostly terrible. Its almost like Barta is spitting in our face trying to get us to renew our tickets by "enticing" us with concession stand vouchers.

You'd think Iowa could have something unique like corn on the cob from the grill...state fair style...or some really good pork dishes as much as they promote AMERICA NEEDS FARMERS. Instead you get pizza hut slices and walking tacos.

This is spot on! Another one of the many, many, many failures by the Iowa AD.
...........of course, half eaten ears of corn might make for nasty missiles aimed at KF's head, the next time he falls for a fake punt.

I'm just so da** glad they FIRED that Field Hockey coach, I might upgrade my Football tickets, this year.
Already pay $400 per seat, but might now try to get the $800 area seats.

Barta deserves a raise !!! Let's Go Hawkeyes!

Just take you $70, get a hotdog, find Barta, and do this...

I agree this "incentive" seems to have little value unless you like the horrible food at the stadium. However, if they really wanted to give an incentive to renew tickets they should up the reward. How about hold a lottery for people that renew tickets, with prizes being (1) upgrade seats to 50 yard line for a game, or (2) free admission to a sky box for a game, or (3) watch the game from the sideline, (4) full access to locker room pre/post game, (5) sit in the press box with coaches to listen to calls, etc. Most if not all of these would not cost the Athletic Dept. any revenue and would be a pretty cool experience for the fans.

How about be the "Run Coordinator" for the day.

Maybe the new president will fire Barta and get the entire athletic program moving in the right direction. Or maybe he'll be forced to resign over his handling of the Griesbaum debacle and what appears to be a pattern of unequal treatment of the women's programs.

At least part of the football problem is gone now that Mason and her hatred of tailgating and fun is gone.

Somewhat related/not related rant coming.

I've talked to some now former season ticket holders who were ticked at the whole reseating thing. They'd been sitting to the same people for years, then split completely up, and the same went for their lot assignments. It's not new news that some of the bigger donor lots have been more empty for the past few years as Frau Mason sent out her fun gestapo stormtroopers to clamp down on having fun.

The economics part of it is really going to hit some of the businesses with a loss of outside income. Let's figure that a couple from Chicago decided to not buy tickets this year. Figure $400 a weekend for hotel room(2 nights), another $300 on food and beverage, $75 in miscellaneous expenses, and that's around $800 spent in IC/Coralville for the weekend or $5600 for the season. Just pulling numbers out of thin air basically, but a search for homecoming weekend hotels had prices from $150-$300 not including tax. Multiply that total by say, 500 and that is $2,800,000 in lost revenue for the area. Spread over the entire city that's not much, but that's for only a loss of 1000 fans that decided to stop coming. Even if you knock it down to say an additional 5000 fans, not spending $100 a weekend just by coming to town, going to the game, then leaving, that's $3.5 mil in lost revenue. It starts adding up as more and more people stop coming, especially for the groups that sell concessions as fund raisers, or any of the concessions running along Melrose.

Which reminds me, I hope the University plans on reimbursing the groups running the stands for lost revenue.

Has anyone else noticed the distinct lack of emotion displayed by our male athletes? I know people have commented on it from time to time with the football team, but it's also true of the basketball team much of the time, and even in wrestling a bit. Think of the Maryland hoops game, White was fired up and showing emotion, the team wins. They show zero emotion in the games against Minny and jNW and lose. Yesterday they were showing emotion against Nebby and they win. I can see it on the football team with emotionless KF on the sideline, but you would think with Fran's personality that some of it would carry over to the team. It's almost like GB has a rule that players are supposed to be emotionless robots.

KF's earlier teams had that fire, that chip on the shoulder attitude, not so much lately. Can't comment much on Alford's teams since I didn't get to see many of the games and am trying to black out the Lickliter years, but Davis' teams always had attitude.

Ugh, it's time for a housecleaning and it begins at the top with Barta.

Have to be 49/48 yard line. There's an aisle on the 50 yard line. And you don't want to get too close as you won't be able to see over the team on many plays from the hash mark to the near sideline.

BOOM!

Gimmicks.....sigh.

When was the last time the FB had to resort to this sort of boondoggle to get butts in seats.

Not that long ago....the BB program was giving away free seats, dollar hot dogs, package deals.

The giveaway is a bad sign.

my response to the ticket office and Gar-Bar spamming my inbox with pleas to renew my season tix ...
No. The team's style of play, which has always been conservative, has taken that to an unprecedented level. The next notch on the dial is comatose. Further, your home schedule is awful. I bet there are MAC schools with better schedules.

So, there is no way I'm going to be able to get a decent price to re-sell the tickets I can't use. (Which is about half or more now, with my kids playing fall sports.) I love the Hawks, but it's going to have to be some tough-love this year. Get back to me when you have a better product to sell.

PS: The only reason I would even consider buying tickets this year is to preserve my priority, but last year, during the re-seat, my priority points got me exactly jack squat. So, there is no reason to worry about that anymore. Obviously, the only time my priority points are ever going to really matter is if I am giving you a truckload of money along with them.

"Tailgate Gestapo's" have had a very negative impact on the gamed at experience.
They have definitely driven the students away. Just not the same seeing police giving out tickets...

Only 65% of Iowa season ticket holders polled, will renew next year. I just heard that figure on ESPN radio/ afternoon players club. If that holds true (which I doubt it will be that bad), that would be about 15 to 20 million in lost revenue! That will help speed up the process of getting Barta/ Ferentz out of here! Its sad that it has to come to that.

Well, if ESPN radio said it, then it's certainly Gold

Cough cough

And for the record, I'll be Renewing and perhaps Upgrading this year (since they'll be ample supply of
vacant seats).

Look for me on the 40 yard line, PressBox side, row 23.

GO HAWKS

You should try to sit next to a field microphone so that we can hear you cheering; you could be the only fan there.

Actually, that may be smart, if you believe Iowa turns things around eventually.

Get in while everyone else is getting out. Warren Buffet strategy. Except you'll need to dump truckloads of cash to *keep* good seats.

Absolutely.

My wife (got it right the second time around) starting coming to games with me in 2009. We would stroll through the lot directly outside Kinnick before games. It was fantastic...characters..tailgaters...music...atmosphere...people everywhere having fun, laughing, partying...and NOBODY causing trouble. She loved it. Said "Wow, I never knew how great college football was!"...and she immediately became a big fan...couldn't wait for our road trips to Iowa City.

Fast forward to 2014. We're strolling through the same lot...on HOMECOMING week...and it's less than 50% full. UNBELIEVABLE. You couldn't buy a parking pass for that lot 5 years ago...and now, it's half empty.

Nobody...NOBODY...working in a marketing or sales capacity could completely kill a product like that and have a job in the "real world". Only in the Sally Mason-ized PC campus world.... could that happen.

Pathetic.
