Those who cut the cable..

I did the free trial of YoutubeTV, it was pretty solid. I opted to stay with PS Vue as it works with my PS4. I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

So Deanvogs and others, can I use playstation vue just with my pc casting to HDtv via chromecast? I signed up just a few days ago on ps vue and when I went to connect it told be to get a 6 digit code from my TV menu. I could not find this code so I couldnt set it up.

My Samsung is about 10 years old so could that be the problem?

I don’t think this would be a very good option. I have a very nice IMac but when I watch on my computer I sometimes buffering problems, and I don’t have any issues when I stream via AppleTv, Roku, or PS4. I’d bet if I tried to cast that to my TV there would be even greater issues. You can get a good streaming device for under $80.

You Tube TV works really nice but I dont have local NBC nor IPTV/PBS which I watch a lot of. Used to get good rabbit ear signals for local DTV but must be more interference now.

Going to buy a antenna amplifier for ~$20 to see if it helps.

I am thinking of getting the PS Vue when football season rolls around, then I noticed Fox Sports is on the third tier that starts at $55 a month, I need to look up and see which games they air.

There us a website that will tell you what you need by your location. It doesnt factor in trees. I can get fox in the winter but not in summer.

I thought PS Vue was supposed to get the local CBS channel free? I really like the Roku guide on my simple streaming stick. It's basic, slick and simple but effective. Remote is simple and practical and offers voice recognition. Why didn't I do this earlier?

One other nice thing to know: There is an app for Android (and I assume iPhone) that will allow you to use your phone for the Roku remote control. While it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, it really is when you start typing when you search. The keyboard on the phone is MUCH easier than the keyboard on the screen. The only thing I have an issue with is that I have three different Roku's and can't figure out how to name each one so that it's easy to tell which one is which.

Another cool thing about the app-based remote: If you're watching TV and don't want to bother anyone else, you can stream the TV's audio through your phone, then connect headphones to your phone so only you can hear the audio. Great if your SO doesn't want to listen to the game, or if you don't want to hear those catty b**ches on Real Housewives argue about whether their latte was hot enough or not...

I love the new style - Bluetooth remotes where you don't have to point the damn thing at the TV

I've been following the World Cup and if the game isn't on Fox broadcast then i do a search on reddit for soccer streams and the first result always has a couple options to choose from. My cheap Mediacom connection with a browser with three tabs open and other programs running can do an okay 720p picture with some clipping.

Didn't you name them when you set them up? I just did it and think it required it. I downloaded the app on my phone but it only pointed to the "Roku_2" which was my last Roku I set up. I couldn't get it to notice my "Roku_1" that I was trying to use in my bedroom. Couldn't figure out how to change it.

On a side note, and for all of you who plan on dumping dish or cable but just hadn't yet, I DON'T KNOW WHY THE F I DIDN'T DO IT SOONER!". Much more simple, the picture is a heck of a lot better, no lag time for loading stream and NON of that shittin's satellite equipment. My bedroom closet was full of hardware (Genie - wireless router - bridge, Etc) and all the cords. Now have absolutely nothing in my closet and it's not a pain trying to reconnect the wireless to all the TV's such as when had DirectTV. I found that a pain in the ass sometimes. I should have done it a year ago!

Wifey didn't like not having the local stations with PS Vue. Antenna for some reason doesn't get NBC or ABC. Not sure why as ABC is only 18 miles away in Cedar Rapids. I like Discover channel on the Vue an wife likes HGTV on the Vue.

I'm seriously thinking about just keeping both PS Vue and YouTube TV to have all stations covered for us. Anybody else decide just to keep both? It's still less than what I was paying for DirecTV and would only be what they offered for their last ditch effort to keep me. I'd still like to save the extra $45 a month but the live local states with DVR may be worth it.

I am wondering if PS VUE or something else will have a special promotional rate when football season gets closer. That has long been DirecTV's big sales season, when they run those commercials for the Sunday Ticket signup offer everywhere.

I think Hulu has both HGTV and Discovery, and is cheaper than keeping both Vue and YouTubeTV. Pick one main provider (Vue or YouTubeTV) and supplement with hulu/netflix/amazon prime/etc.

Wondering same. I presume can't get all Hawkeye and Cubs games with Hulu? Will have to check.

Good idea on having YouTube and maybe Hulu.

anyone want to report in on HULU as a main TV provider?

Screen shots please!

I had "Hulu Live" but canned it after basketball season. Frankly, more lag/buffering issues than PSVue, so come football season, I am going back to PSVue. Unless, doing a YouTubeTV free trial I like it better. But...PSVue has Hallmark Channel, and I have a wife. Points scored for getting Hallmark Channel back!

With Hulu Live you won't miss a Hawks game. The only way to NOT miss Cubs games, any more, is getting season tix to Wrigley, then following them n the road!

YouTubeTV has Fox Sports MIdwest & Midwest Plus. NBC Sports Chicago and Plus, and MLB channel. I would think between those you'd see a fair share of Cubs games, but maybe not. I'm not a huge baseball fan, so I haven't really looked into it. What channel are the Cubs normally on?
