Those who cut the cable..

@deanvogs For sports I get Fox North / North Plus ; Fox Midwest / Midwest Plus ; NBC Chicago / Chicago Plus ; NBA TV, SEC, BTN, ESPN 2/U/News; FS1/2 ; MLB TV ; CBS Sports ; Golf Channel ; Olympic Channel ; Tennis Channel ; ABC ; NBC ; (no CBS live yet oddly enough).

I'm in Ankeny and can get CBS live via the app. NBC is the local channel that is demand only.

Yeah, YouTube TV has locals for the DSM market, and the Waterloo/Cedar Rapids/Iowa City markets right now. Not sure about the Quad Cities, but I would assume they're available.

And while I agree that the cable/sat companies will be hurt, most of the cable companies are also your ISP, so they'll just shift their costs over to that and we'll all end up paying more for Internet since there's zero competition in most places; especially rural areas where satellite may be the only option.

Yes, but then your cellular hotspot if fast enough might be priced right to handle your internet, who knows.

And we have very little control over the powers that be that carve up the internet and energy spectrum that carries these signals.

I see on twitter that Jon, has come to an impasse with DirecTV, he told them to .....you know what.

He's getting a lot of free advice and seems to be headed toward another expensive arrangement with Dish Network. Somebody's gotta stop him.

......especially during our "rainy season". Wonder if he is still wrangling snakes around the homestead.

Dude says he has to "live Tweet" so he can't abide being 30 seconds behind the action.

PS Vue is the way to go. You can get CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC live without messing around with an antenna. I do it all the time. Just add a VPN app on your device and connect to a location/city that supports all the networks channels and you can watch them all live. Also the VPN service will increase your internet speeds for streaming as most ISP will throttle your speed at evening hours.

So I suspended my DTV service and am only on YouTube TV now. So far so good, but when 3 of us are streaming, and the kid is trying to play Fortnite, things slow down a bit. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but i'm contemplating switching to Mediacom for 100M service instead of the 60 I have with CenturyLink. When I last used Mediacom probably 9 years ago, they were awful. Awful service. Awful equipment. Awful customer service. I vowed I'd never go back, but can folks with Mediacom comment on their Internet service now? Has it gotten more reliable?

thanks.

I have 300 mbps from AT&T into the house but wireless is always less. My Roku downstairs, near the router is faster than the one I upstairs. Youtube app on Roku upstairs is really slow. Wonder if that is what the Youtube TV service would be like.

this is what my Laptop is getting via wireless.

I tried them all a month at a time and like YouTube TV over them all. The DVR is excellent, unlimited saves and easy to navigate, just like their channel lineup.....

Here is an article from Tom's Guide that compares the services quite nicely.....

I get emails from the services that I have used offering incentives to come back. If it is good enough I get them for a month, then go back to YouTube TV. Easy to do. It can usually be done from your account. page online. Takes a while to find the cancellation option, but it is there. Then I always call them a couple of days before the new month. I call in the morning and usually get through quickly. Otherwise, I just put the phone on speaker and wait for them to reply.....

I have had Hulu for a while and really like it. I pay about 3 dollars for the no commercial option which is certainly worth it. They have a new offer for HBO for $5 a month for 6 months.....

I avoid them like the plague. Said I would never go back to them. I dumped them when they wouldn't pick up the BIG channel way back in 2007 or so.

Man. I'd go to YouTube TV in a minute but it doesn't have the one station I watch most when not watching sports. Discover channel. I have that on as my default all the time.

I considered youtube TV when I learned that they offered local channels, but then decided against it after realizing they don't offer them in Iowa city, just bigger cities =/
