This is not an NCAA team. Why? Our guard play stinks.

Ted and Ryno where you guys at? And how do you like that mediocre group of role players now?

That was definitely the best game our guards have played all year. Really only marble has had any consistency this year. If Oglesby and gesell can make some shots like today, we certainly are a much better team. As is we can compete with most any team, beating them has been a different story. today certainly was one of the biggest wins we have had in the 2000's. Hopefully this will take the lid off against the top teams in our league. If we want to be a top 4-5 team in our league , we have to beat them, so today's a great start.

I hate the idea that I might be looking back one day and thanking Wisconsin for anything, but I think that was a breaking point for this team. The comment earned quite a bit of ridicule on CF, and people can debate on whether he was right or not, or if he should/shouldn't have said it regardless of its accuracy, but White's comment about being sick and tired of losing to teams they're better than said a lot in hindsight. Whether they actually were better or not, the team felt they were. And that game might have been the tipping point where the frustration reached a critical level and they finally decided to do something about it.

Just think about how White must be feeling this morning. After making those comments and a bunch of people getting on him about it then he goes to his home state and kicks the snot out of #3 Ohio State. He has to be feeling a lot of redemption right now.

BTW, nice bump. I love how ryno tries to explain everything by stating this was the best the guards have played all year. It was the best the TEAM has played all year on the road.

Wait so we have to beat the top teams to finish 4-5 in our league? Pretty sure we will finish 1-2 if we beat the top teams.

Who was the guy who said we have to finish 500 against the top 3 teams to sniff the dance? 1 win down 2 to go!

I will happily eat crow based on yesterday's result. Gesell has stepped up of late and I thought yesterday was one of his best all around games. He drove to the basket and finished at least twice (both from the left, which I assume was not by accident) and hit some big shots. Iowa is a completely different team when Gesell and Uthoff and or McCabe can make some perimeter shots. I like seeing the ball in Marble's hands in late game situations, so props to FM for making adjustments.

It is comic relief reading most of the responses. If you disagree with me, that is perfectly fine, but state a case for your disagreement. You look stupid by shouting people down with differing opinions when the FACTS are not on your side. Until Saturday, Iowa guard play was sketchy at best against legit teams. Why did we lose to ISU, Villanova, Wisconsin and drop games last year? We stalled out in crunch time due to lack of scoring and dribble drive threats outside of Marble. So, you can say I suck, put your full compliment of d-bag vocabulary to use, but you cannot refute that factually, I am right. Yesterday was, in my opinion, one of the best coaching jobs and efforts by players in the last 10 years of Iowa hoops. Can we agree on that?

Your previous two posts are literally the first two I think anyone can recall that were actually positive in any way. It's pretty tough to take someone seriously when they typically only show up to be debbie downers after a loss. Props to you for coming back and actually eating a little crow, but you can't blame people for shrugging off your opinion, considering your post history.

You also look stupid claiming we won't be a tournament team and using neutral site or away losses to three top 10 teams as an example. It ain't a 12 team tournament Ted.

If it was a 12 team tourney, we probably would end up on the bubble though.

I don't even want you back on the bandwagon after you were stupid enough to say it wasn't a tourney team and then claim that the "facts" are on your side.

Both Mike and Marble's play has been at a high level all year. They missed a couple free throws at big moments late in games.... that doens't discredit the level they played at for the other 38 minutes of those games.

You sir... are an idiot.

Why do you think you are the one coming back to eat crow? That is because you are the one that looked stupid. It took a road win over a top 5 team for you to see what everyone else already understood, that this is a NCAA tourney team.

So basically it took a brick to your face, when the facts had already pointed to Iowa being a tourney team....Everyone saw the facts but you.

It's okay to talk if you can walk the walk. White is probably strutting around like a peacock.

Great point. The facts point to Iowa being a tourney team, and that still would have been true if they lost yesterday.

Do you even know what day Iowa played on?

Imagine if there was some sort of middle ground between " guards suck so bad we won't make the tourney" and "guards are good enough to beat a top 5 team on the road".

Your traditional "guard" position is often being played by point-forwards who are interchangeable in non-conventional roles in today's game if you haven't noticed lately. Your guards can post up players and take guys on the wing. Look at Kane at Iowa State. He can play three positions. Marble can play point when he is needed depending on game situations. You often see your forwards and sometimes centers bring the ball up past half court when the guards are being doubled and trapped. Makes it much more difficult to set up effective match-ups against a team that has players that play different positions.
