This Board is Filled with Tavern Hoks

I've invested tens of thousands of dollars in this university and its athletic department. I expect to at least be mildly entertained by the football team. And I could care less if message board wankers question my level of enthusiasm and slavish devotion (or lack thereof) to the 4 million dolla man.

Oh well. Even Lickliter had his "true fan" defenders at the bitter end. It is what it is.

comparing lick to ferentz. not sure if serious. well, i'm pretty sure, based on the drivel you post.

I don't see a huge difference between now and 06-07-11-12 message board wise. If you take away 09, Kirk does not get his extended contract and he may or may not be our coach today. 09 was a lucky season anyway you slice it. We did not dominate teams. We won the close ones. If 09 went the way the other seasons have gone since 05 and we ended up 7-5 I think we are complaining about a new coach in 13.

Is the application for acceptance into the league of "true fans" online or in person? I'm asking for a friend...

Pretty obvious that most of the posters here jumped on the wagon during the 2002-2004 years.

Now the program is a little down and they are ready to abandon ship.

136, are you retired? You sure do a ton of fishing; at least you know a lot about what bait to use.

OP must be one of those "real" hawk fans who has some story about 1985 and thus is superior to us all.

Tavern Hawk fan here, I jumped on board in 1982 and have not bailed yet. But what I am tired of seeing is Ferentz losing games they have no business losing and making coaching mistakes over and over.

This team had the talent to beat Northern Illinois and the coaching decisions allowed NIU back in the game and ultimately win it. This is the one thing that spoiled me during the Hayden Fry years, when Fry led teams had a team down they did not let up and kicked their @ss's. They rarely lost games that they should have won. He "scratched where it itches" approach to games which simply means they took whatever the opposing teams gave them. The offensive line had the NIU d-line broken down, they were whipped and instead of taking what the defense was giving them they decided to put the game into the hands of a rookie quarterback.

Im not saying everybody that doesnt care for Ferentz or wants him gone falls into the title of my post. I know there are some big Hawk fans that have posted in this thread that are unhappy with Ferentz (drummer, Thunder, etc.). Thats not who I am calling out. Im guessing you both went to Iowa, donate, buy tickets, etc.

My definition of a Tavern Hok is the idiot who casually follwed the team until their 2002-2004 stretch and then became a "diehard" Hawk who lets everybody at the bar he bleeds black and gold.

Then said idiot rails on everything within the program when things arent quite as good.

I see a lot of those types around here the last few days.

I'm a Tavern Hok by definition I suppose. Isn't that somebody who likes Iowa but didn't go to the U of I? Or have I confused it with some other Hawkeye fan rule?

If there wasn't Tavern Hok fans the stadium would be empty and then people would ***** about that too.

You don't get to make up your own definition of Tavern Hok. The term Hy-Vee Hok isn't taken and so you could make up something similar to the Wal-Mart Wolverine if you so chose.

You were forced to do so, obviously. If you hate the product on the field so much, close your wallet.
