Thinking of Roses for 2010 Season? Not so fast...

OK, if the Hawks win the Big Ten next year, it's Rose at worst, unless they win them all, then probably national title...I don't think they'll win em all...and I think Ohio State might.

Normally, if OSU won em all and played in the national title game, and say Iowas was 7-1 in the Big Ten, the Rose would take the Hawks with their replacement pick.

But starting next year, that might not happen. Remember this little clause?

"For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl"

So say Ohio State runs the table and is ranked #1 in final BCS poll...and say someone other than Boise State...OSU vs the other BCS conference undefeated team for the title...and Boise State and/or TCU is in the Final Top 8, which makes one of them automatically qualified for the BCS...the Rose has to pick the non-BCS conference team the first time this arises.

Now, if both OSU and Oregon run the table and meet for the title, the Rose would get two replacement picks. Iowa vs Boise would be a good ticket seller for them.

I know this is getting way ahead of ourselves, but it's fun to think about...so keep that clause in mind thinking ahead to next year. I hope the Hawks are in the position in the win column for us to have this discussion

Is it bad of me to wish this basketball season would be over and football would be right around the corner??

First we need to worry about having an offensive line that will allow us to think about BCS bowls. I'm not at all sure we're going to be as good as we were this year on the offensive side of the ball.

One thing we can bank on is that our #1 D unit will absolutely chew up the #1 offense next year.

Not so fast my friend. The big ten should be pretty damn good next year and we won a lot of games by the skin of our teeth. With that said, I'm searching for motels in Pasadena as well as Phoenix!

Jon what about a situation like 2002? Both Iowa and OSU go unbeaten in the Big Ten. What does the Rose Bowl do then?

Lets say Iowa is ranked 3rd in the country with Boise at 2 and OSU at 1. OSU and Boise play for the championship and Iowa is left out of the BCS just because TCU finished 8th?

I know Iowa and OSU play next year but this is just a what if....

Stupid BCS.

In your first scenario, the Rose Bowl takes the Big Ten champion (via tiebreakers) unless that team is in the NC game.

In your second scenario, one of the other BCS bowls would pick #3 Iowa.

So Iowa would still be in the BCS but just not in the Rose? It's soo confusing to me so I guess that is why I just wait til they announce and then get excited about that game.

I saw this in the SI prediction article. I understood it as saying the B10 champ will go to the Rose unless they go to the NCG, in which case the Rose can't choose the B10 runner up for their bowl. If the runner up is good enough for Rose they will get picked up by another BCS bowl. The SI early projection put OSU in the NCG vs. Bama and Iowa in the Fiesta vs. Nebraska.

So the only way Iowa goes to the rose bowl is if we are conf. champs and not playing for the NC? I doubt it'll be an issue.

I agree with Jon with the Iowa won't win all their games next year.
I would Love to see it happen but don't think it will.
We will have some crazy thing happen that keeps from the big one.JMO

Why on earth would the Rose Bowl agree to something like this? So much for tradition.....

Jon-

Your logic is initially flawed. Iowa can....nay....will go undefeated next year, thus punching their ticket to the National Title Game. Now please pass the kool aid. No, not the purple...the Black and Gold. Thank you.
