My guess would be that was the trade off for getting the Big Ten and Pac 10 champs (when not playing in the national title game) since the inception of the BCS . . .

i See the hawks finishing the year next year sitting at 11-1! I am going to say our one loss with either be to Arizona or Northwestern! Iowa has never played well out in Arizona since I can remember! Northwestern is always tough as well.
I think Iowa goes 11-1 and if we lose to Arizona, we go to the Rose bowl and play for the Roses! If we lost to NW, Then we will still head to land of Roses! I like Iowa's chances of beating everyone at home, now the only games that scare me are Zona, NW, and Indiana! All three of those teams are returning a lot and will be very ready to knock the hawks off!
