The World Did Not End!

HAHA, seriously? Michigan isn't even any good. The stadium wasn't full at all. Our defense played with effort, but the offense outside of Goodson was pathetic. I don't think the fans are ashamed, but the coaches should be ashamed of themselves except for Parker. 4 penalties on the final drive? I don't think I have ever seen that before.
Another Caddy lie. The only area of the stadium that was not completely full was the section reserved for students, and that was about 75% full. I was there, btw. Doubt if C was.

You understand we’ve seen similar games with those players. You have revisionist history.
By the time a KF qb is a senior, he'd rather keep taking sacks than risk a turnover.

Stanzi had a similar game against WIS in '10. Sack, sack, deer-in-the-headlights sack.

If Michigan outplayed us I wouldn't be a bit upset, but this was a pure gift win for Michigan. First turnover fumble to Nate's three INT's. All three on ill-advised throws. The miscommunication with his receivers, the penalties, the lack of gameplan and blitz pick-ups.....and we only lose by 7. Nate might not face this much pressure the rest of the year, but this is the blueprint to beat a non-mobile QB.

2-for (OSU,Miss ST) To be fair.
The OSU game, while an impressive win, didn't really have anything riding on it. Not like the one today.
I'll give him a minor bowl game win vs MSS St.

But the big inner-league games what really had a lot riding on them (Wisconsin, PSU for example), not so much.

People keep saying this isn’t true by pointing to the QB overall numbers improving when they’re a senior, but it’s for the exact reason above

Iowa QB get less risky as they progress thru the Iowa system. It’s real easy to bump your completion numbers when all you do is check down. Helps the INT stat as well. So does taking sacks.

Our OOC has been extremely weak over the last five - six years and it’s allowed Stanley to pad stats. Throw in Rutgers, Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska each year and who isn’t going to throw 30 TD a season?

Yesterday’s game was against two bad offensive teams. I felt like Michigan could have scored more points had they committed to the run in the red zone (the few times they got there). They gashed us pretty bad a few drives only to try and throw corner routes to their WR. Not a bad idea considering their size but our defense appeared to be prepped for just that thing

Iowas offense hasn’t made sense since GDGD. At least when KOK was running things he made SOME adjustments.

I honestly can’t say Brian is an improvement from Greg, and the bar was set so damn low that’s embarrassing

Michigan will lose all those games, and will get destroyed by PSU and OSU. They aren't good at all. We are just that bad on offense.
Turnover on first play from scrimmage, 3 INT's, 199 penalties and we still lose by 7? This game was there for the taking. Michigan is a fraud. How many times did Michigan fumble and get it back? Once again, poor clock management, no adjustment to blitz. As poorly as we played the game was still up for grabs. Needed our OC and senior QB to come up with a play in the 4th quarter and they both shit their pants.Thats all you got? Really?

This game is why you never, ever judge how good your team is by only playing ISU, the worst team in P5 football (Rutgers), a bottom feeder MAC team, and a team that would struggle to win games in NAIA ball.

For F’s sake people. I said here those four games meant zero/zip/zilch and got crucified, but people are ready to burn the house down now like they didn’t know this was coming.

I told you so?

This one didn’t mean anything either. No one’s stopping Wisconsin; we’ve been fighting for 2nd place from day one.

Exactly. The talk was Stanley had everything figured out, was a threat to use his legs lol, and was the best qb in Iowa history, our receivers had emerged and we had an outstanding receiving group, 4 great running backs, best offensive line, etc. We played nobody, and that Michigan team yesterday is maybe an average team. Our offense is simply pathetic, and that includes BF, KF, and Polasek. I'm thinking we have more of this coming. PSU, Wisconsin, NW all have better defenses. That Michigan offense yesterday is inept considering the talent they have. We will be challenged on defense much more than what we saw yesterday. That said, the defense more than did their part. Phil Parker did his part as well. The rest should be embarrassed.

Stanley is not a good qb. He's good against his level of competition, which is the crap non-conference schedule, and the bottom feeders of the conference, but other than that he just isn't good. Brian Ferentz doesn't have a clue what he is doing, and is only in the position he is in because of daddy. I think Michigan could have run the ball against us more if they tried. Still not sold on our defense being as good as people claim, as that Michigan offense was about as brutal as ours, which is even worse considering the talent they have. Patterson is a flop considering how highly rated he is. Epenesa hasn't lived up to any of the hype he continues to get. Has he been double teamed? Yes, but not as much as people think. He often takes himself out of the play, and loafs if he isn't near the ball. That game yesterday was one of the worst football games I have ever watched.

Lost in the offensive struggles was a terrific effort. Michigan's season was at the brink. They had to earn that win.

While as fans you can be critical and boisterous, but there is no reason to be ashamed. That stadium was loud and affecting Iowa's offense.

Time to chill and hope for better results at home.

Stanley did what he does best on the road in big games, he chokes hard, he gets happy feet then looks like a hs freshman qb, clueless as can be..dude needs benched going forward.

Listen, both defenses played well. Both offenses played like crap. Our o-line just didn’t mesh today for some reason. This was a Murphy’s Law type of game. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. But I’m confident they were thoroughly embarrassed by what happened today and will come back stronger against PedoSt.
I feel the same... they will make the adjustments needed and come back strong next week. To much pride not too... Wisky will also lose a couple times this year so alot of football to be played yet... the goal is to win the West and the goal is still within reach..

It wasn't on Nate. There were only a couple that were playing today. The rest of the offense was MIA.
We literally could have played our entire 3rd string offense and not scored less. Or at the most 3 points less.
If our d held them to 10 points, our 3rd string or even an entire offense of kids off the street would have lost by 3 points more than our first string offense.
That's perspective!!!

No this was on Nate, 3 picks throwing the ball so off his WR had no chance, standing in the pocket like a tree not throwing the ball away...8 sacks, he is what he is a joke in big games on the road!

Well for starters he was running for his life and not standing there like a tree. Look at the yardage given up for those sacks. Not to mention the ones he threw away while on the run.
Secondly some of those throws were contested. Even the one stroke of luck we had the ball was tipped, but for one time, we caught it anyway.
Then look at the last drive, he and the receivers were not on the same page.
Maybe that's his fault, maybe not. Maybe it's both their faults. IDK.
What I do know is besides a couple players, the offense in it's entirety was MIA.
There is more than enough blame to go around.

Have to agree to disagree. A win at Mich jump starts the "real" season, gives confidence, establishes attitudes, etc etc. Instead, we're back to the very familiar ground of fighting uphill the rest of the season for legitimacy.

The buck stops at the desk of the head coach and offensive coordinator. Period. They were responsible for yesterday. Jackson didn't look ready. Did Kallenberger get any reps? It can't be easy for Wirfs to be thrown back and forth, right to left and back again. No adjustments to their defensive schemes. Too many slow developing routes. No hurry up offense to slow them down. Abandoning the run or not running from different formations. How about spreading the field for once? Ad nauseum.

Even though we apparently don't prepare backup qb's Nate should have been pulled against Penn St last year. The worst performance by a qb in the 40+ years I have been watching Iowa football. "But we had a chance to win it at the end and Fant screwed up" was the familiar refrain. Bullshit. If Nate had been pulled we MIGHT have won by 3 touchdowns. He really struggles at times. This again is coaching. We need to develop our backups more and insert them when those times are warranted. This position shouldn't be treated that much differently than any other. What message are you sending the other players? We needed a qb yesterday that could have scrambled a bit because our OC apparently was incapable of countering the blitz. But that qb will probably be transferring at some point.

I didn’t mean to say we’re doomed, just that I don’t see anyone in the West stopping Wisconsin with Taylor healthy.

I don’t mind having divisions, but since we have to play all division members every year, one loss early on like this one means you no longer have control over your own destiny other than to go undefeated the rest of the way out and beat Wisconsin in their own house. That’s a tall order, and one that I don’t think this team is up to (not even close), so essentially after only two conference games we are now reduced to fighting for the Bob’s Discount Mattress Shop Bowl against the Upper Southwest Poughkeepsie Welding School Fighting Zippity Doo Das.

Conference Divisions make things exciting when you’re in the hunt, but you can also shut the door on your season immediately after it begins, too.

I get what you are saying.
We need to block better. Both for the run game and blitz pick up. We need a qb that scrambles better. We need wrs that can get more separation. We need to call better plays or different plays.
Pretty much exactly what I said. There is enough blame to go around.

Stanley could have played better, but what you're saying is a knee-jerk emotional reaction.

His first INT is on him, but give Michigan credit. They masked their coverage and Nate misread it. Brown did an excellent job all day mixing up coverages and morphing at the snap.

On the second INT, Nate was under immediate pressure and couldn't step into the throw. Even with that, the throw was right there. The DB used great leverage and perfect positioning. What should have happened is that ISM should have grabbed him. A penalty is a better outcome in that situation.

On the third, Stanley placed the ball perfectly. The receiver (I believe it was Ragaini) couldn't get separation and the DB got his hand out front. If not, the pass would have hit Ragaini in the hands and in-stride. The ball got tipped and intercepted.

The performance yesterday falls squarely at the feet of the O-line, particularly our guards which were terrible, and the poor blitz pickup attempts by our RBs. Sargent and Goodson completely whiffed at least 3 times.

That's the truth.
Yeah later games are going to mean something for winning the west.
But unless we win the b10 championship, we cooked our goose early in the season from a national perspective.
Sure we could go on to smoke everyone on the schedule and that would help. But as of yesterday the national perception of the Hawks took a hit.
2 conference games and we are out of the national championship race.
That's the equivalent of running a 100m race and tripping and falling on your second step
