The way some people on this board villify Vandy

makes me remember Matt Sherman and the abuse he took.

Fans are so fickle.

What is the record today? Are the Hawks going bowling?

Some people just have to complain to make themselves feel relevant.

Yes, big time. He's not perfect, but look at the kids stats, pretty darn good. Thorws for close to 300 yards today, three td's, no pics, gets the win, and we're still ripping him...

Look, I don't think the guy is a bad QB - just that is isn't deserving of the anointed status he received before the season even started.

I dont think anyone really gave him too much credit before the season started, acutally, i think he is deserving of more credit than he gets...

For his first year he is doing a great job. This is not easy stuff to do. Obviously we all see plays, games where he makes mistakes, could do better, but that is part of the process. Bunch of winers here that couldn't hit me standing still throwing a football.

Statistics might prove me wrong, but doesn't it seem like our average yardage per play when he audibles is about 1.4 yards? That being said, he's going to do nothing but improve with each game's experience. I really like his toughness...did you see the hit he took on McNutt's 51 yard TD reception? Stood tall to get the ball off and then got absolutely planted....he's absolutely our #1 option.

Vandenberg is having one of the best seasons in Iowa football history. His 2624 passing yards is 8th best all time. His 23 TD passes is 4th best all time.

He has the best 'pro' skill set of just about any Iowa QB I have seen and he's made just 13 starts.

People trying to rip this kid are very, very out of touch.

^1000%

I think that when JVB cleans up that bad quarter or "off" 20 minutes a game he seems to have each week, he will really do some great things. Chances are the team will have to rely on some offensive production next year and he could really have a great 2012 if he improves a little.

Boy I REALLY disagree here Jon. He has played some terrible football this season. He was basically flat out bad, hell terrible, against Iowa St, Penn st, Minnesota, and Michigan St.
He had ONE good quarter (maybe 1.5) against Pitt. Was okay against Michigan and NW.

I guess I expect a QB to step up in big games and not lay an egg when it counts most. JVB played great against ULM, Purdue, and Indiana.

For a 4th year junior, he needs to be better and make much better decisions. He doesnt throw many INTs because he sits on the ball and takes a sack. Taking a sack in the endzone today was a joke. No excuse in the world to hang on to the football like that.

He has the best WR in Iowa history probably and a RB that is basically good for 100+ in each conf game. He continually doesnt handle the blitz well, throws balls that are not even close to his WRs, and takes sacks when he has an opportunity to throw the ball away.

I am far from impressed most games and wouldnt put him anywhere near the best in Iowa history. Great kid, average QB.

Folks that think he is anywhere near the best in Iowa history are out of touch. Not even close.

You may be too polite to say to say it but I'm not - The people talking trash about Vandenberg are morons. Likely the same morons that keep saying that Ferentz needs to go (it is still unbelievable to me that these half-wits keep saying this while watching what's gone down with the coaches at O$u and Penn St. Christ we may not win every game but at least I can hold my head up when I say I'm a hawk fan.) You people disgust me.

Talking trash, yes. Critical, heck no. I like the kid but I am just not impressed with his overall performance in most games. Not even close. Doesnt mean I dont root like crazy for him though.

As far as Kirk, I wouldnt trade him for anyone.

+1,000. With one exception two years ago, Vandy has shown very little against good defenses (and some bad ones). Also, his stats this year have been greatly assisted by the best WR in Iowa history making one handed, incredible catches. Vandy won't have that luxury next year.

I'd say McNutt has made 4 or so one handed spectacular catches this year. He's also dropped probably 8-9 balls...and the other receivers have dropped close to 23 or 24. The worst number of drops in the Big Ten and most likely the country. Give me a break.

Does anyone remember Stanzi's first year? He had Shonn Greene and defenses had 8 in the box all day long...and Stanzi still couldn't complete 60%.

Vandenburg has one area he needs to improve...handling pressure succcessfully.

Oh, and on McNutt's spectacular touchdown today, Vandenburg had a guy coming at him and he stood in there and got it out and got hammered. He's going to improve here.

For those just tuning in, Miller hardly ever criticizes Iowa coaches and certainly not players.

Here's the thing: does "skill set" include an ability to recognize a blitz? The ability to throw an accurate long ball? The ability to play well (much less post a win) against a good defense? These are just a few examples.

this is just ******* stupid.

Vandy is better than his numbers suggest. Take away some of the 26 drops, and he probably has 3000 yards and 27-28 TDs. Still only 6 interceptions. By the numbers he is the second best passer in the Big Ten,behind only Russell Wilson, who parachuted in from NCSt. where he was a 3 year starter with a record number of yards. If he stays put at NCSt.,then Vandy is the king of the QBs in the Big Ten...and yet we have doofus's on here who are complaining about him? Get your heads out of your video games and smell the coffee....Vandy has has a great year.
And those that are saying Vandy has Marvin so he should have good numbers....this is the worst TE group Iowa has had in the KF era. And our rbs do not catch well. And our WR's drop the most in the league, and Vandy is lucky? Give me frigggin break.

I might have missed it, but do you mention one game he's played well against a good defense? Hint: it's not PSU or MSU.
