makes me remember Matt Sherman and the abuse he took.

Fans are so fickle.

What is the record today? Are the Hawks going bowling?

Some people just have to complain to make themselves feel relevant.

Look, I don't think the guy is a bad QB - just that is isn't deserving of the anointed status he received before the season even started.

He played well today, no doubt. But he is not the QB his statistics would have you believe he is. That is the only point I was trying to make about him.

Up until today he's played mediocre to poor away from Kinnick. I think most of the criticism has come after those away games. Although I also think you're blowing this a bit out of proportion. I wouldn't say he's even in the top 5 as far as critical discussions on these message boards.

he's exactly the qb his statistics would have you believe. he's not putting up "system" numbers. he's running a pro style offense in which he has the responsibility to run it, including audibling out of dead plays, changing protections. etc. he's earned every stat he has, and maybe more. Iowa has more drops than anyone in the big ten.

He was as good, if not better than Stanzi last year......he is THAT good. You figure in the drops and lack of running game the first half of the year, not to mention the spots our defense has put him and he's having one of the best 1st year starter at QB.

This.

Is he all world... no, but he is very solid for a first year starter. Plus he is way, way better than Sherman was.

I think it's the knuckleheads who compare him to Jake Christensen who really bug me. JVB isn't an all-American but comparing Jake to him is ridiculous.

Vandenberg is having one of the best seasons in Iowa football history. His 2624 passing yards is 8th best all time. His 23 TD passes is 4th best all time.

He has the best 'pro' skill set of just about any Iowa QB I have seen and he's made just 13 starts.

People trying to rip this kid are very, very out of touch.

It is no where near that level, it is not even at the Kyle McCann level.

The JC/JVB comparisons are absurd.......Mcnutt would not be putting up these type of numbers if JC was the QB.

Very, very out of touch is the absolute nicest thing you could possible say about them.

jvb is not stanzi nor was stanzi a jvb. 2 different qb's.

I prefer stanzi but I am not saying jvb is a bad qb.

stanzi was a guy who could play horrible but if it came down to a game winning drive I would put my money on stanzi. he played with no fear and a short term memory. he didn't have the greatest mechanics but he got the job done. he was also a true leader.

vandy has great mechanics and hes a true passer. hes got the tools and potential to be great. however he isn't a true leader YET. hopefully he'll get there. he also has to learn to let the last play go. and be more aggressive. hes got a cannon. I just wish he'd show it off more.

My only critisism with Vandy is how he handles pressure. He seems to get overwhelmed and fold under a lot of pressure.

What about last year when Stanzi failed all five times to lead game winning drives at the end against AZ, Wisky, OSU, NW, and Minnesota?

Stanzi was a good QB but not the Joe Montana people seem to remember. He and JVB are very similar overall.

Personally I think Jvb is poised to put up an insane season at qb next year. He certainly looks uncomfortable under pressure but that is something you can't simulate. By all accounts he is a smart kis and a hard worker. I believe he will work on his flaws over the off season and become a more poised and savvy QB. to compare him to JC is ridiculous- his arm and accuracy are the best since Tate and he has better size and a better arm. 30+ TDs and 3300 yards are not out of the realm of possibility next season.
