The sponsors are the key to KXNO

Good luck with that. You may have a couple message board types that take this seriously, but most average people could care less about what he said. I wouldn't be surprised if he just earned himself a larger audience with that display. Look at what Jim Rome vs. Jim Everette did for Rome.

If you honestly think an average listener wouldn't have a problem with what down yesterday I have a bridge to sell ya, PM me your address.

Re: Smoot, you still don't get it

Of course a couple of complaints are not going to alter radio programming. However, you have to remember Des Moines is a mid level market at best. Complaints to the station as well as to the sponsors, if in large numbers, will have an impact on how programming is handled. That is the quintessential element of "free market" (i.e., the consumers are the ones influencing the business practice).

Furthermore, your comparison to Rush Limbaugh is flawed. I can virtually guarantee you that his sponsors and the stations on which his program is broadcast get a lot of positive feedback as well. Hence, the shield of protection he has from those who complain. A small market guy like this Perrault (sp?) doesn't have the cache to overcome a barrage of complaints to his bosses and sponsors.

I don't have the inclination to any such thing for this particular issue, but I applaud those who take the time and effort to let their opinions be known to those who matter. If it gets results, then the free market is working.

975 thread views. maybe 75% are even from the DSM market. 38 posts. maybe 5 ppl willing to do this. Those are some staggering numbers.

I applaud those that aren't overreacting to sports talk radio and internet message boards.

depends on if you mean average listener or "average Hawk fan listener". for the average listener I would say that is the most exciting thing they have heard in a long time on the radio and will be craving more. total depravity. who's next up for perrault? I can't wait for it myself.

An average listener who wants to hear sports talk was turned off by that exchange I can assure you

Maybe you'll eventually get Perrault kicked off by calling in, maybe you won't. Personally I dont care and I doubt you accomplish anything. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that grown men would be so bothered by a discussion about Iowa football that they would feel the need to call sponsors and complain about a sports radio shock jock.

Okay, that's fine for you to be of that opinion. But isn't it a little ridiculous that you would get so worked up about other people getting worked up? You're acting the same way as the people you're upset with.

Miller and Deace was the highest rated show on sports radio because people like listening to stuff about sports that wasn't lambasted with sensationalism. If people want to actively work together to get a more reasonable radio host, then they should be able to do so. I don't see why that bothers you so much.

Are you talking about the average person or the average hawkeye nation homer? Perrault acted like a baby in my opinion and probably could have done without referencing Stanzi, but Howe acted completely unprofessional too and blew a gasket over nothing. All in all, it was a big tadoo over a dumb issue that was small potatoes compared to some of the topics argued about over the message board. Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if more people tune in now.

I'm not the one bothered. I'm not PMing Jon Miller telling him to delete these posts. I'm not defending Perrault. I'm just responding on a message board. Secondly, it might be your point of view as well as a few other listeners that they don't want to listen to Perrault and don't care for his style of radio. Let the ratings do the talking. If the ratings tank he'll be replaced. A lot of people, including myself, don't like Rome either. That doesn't mean I'm going to whine about it and try to start a boycott on a message board. I actually realize that he must have enough of an audience to keep him on. The same should apply for Perrault.

pretty obvious smoot isn't very successful. Any company that would laugh at customer complaints isn't one that I want to deal with. Of course we all know that smoot is not telling the truth since no legit company ignores it's customers. In fact I will go out on a limb and say smoot is unemployed. In fact I have a reliable source that says smoot and clich are twin brothers and neither has ever had a job in their life.

That's what my sources say!

What part of "average sports listener" are you not understanding by my posts? Of course a Hawk Homer is gonna hate Perrault but to throw out a comment that "Stanzi had to know" is reckless and downright dangerous. He does zero reporting and uses shock jock tactics to rile up a fanbase just to get calls, that isn't sports talk. Sports talk is talking with your listeners/guests and not shouting at them. How is this difficult to understand?

Another thing I don't get.

Howe called him out for being an irresponsible media member. As a credentialed media member, Howe has a stake in how media represents itself, in particular this show. He also was a regular guest and at the particular moment that he was on, MP was spewing all kinds of slanderous speculation. What's said during that segment affects him, his bottom line, and his credibility.

Yeah, he also lost his cool, but I would too if I was supposed to be a direct party to doing something that harmful to me, my business, and something that I happen to find ethically objectionable.

Just got a tweet that confirmed it.

So that's why I've already had 5 people that NEVER listen to sports talk come up and ask me what that was all about since they know Im a regular listener and wanting to know how they could go back and find it? I'm not sure if your in a time warp 50 years ago but controversy sells in this day and age.

Just successful enough to avoid getting my underwear in a bunch over sports talk radio. That's more than you can say.

Guys I hate to break your buble, but a half dozen phone calls saying pull your ads of this show or I won't shop there is actually more likley to REINFORCE thier decision to advertise on a show not pull it. Most smart business owners realize that for every 2 or 3 nutjobs that call thier business and make that kind of demand thousands more hear thier ad and don't make those demands. Furthermore it reinforces that their message is a good one and is being heard. The four things a business owner loves to hear about thier advertising in no particular order is....

1) I heard your commercial and I love it.
2) I heard your commercial and I hate it.
3) I heard your commercial on show x and I hate show x.
4) I heard your commercial on show x and I love show x.

The key is they all start with "I heard your commercial".

Haha now after getting mad at Matt P for spreading unfounded rumors you come out on an internet message board and start slagging people off about their employment and family status. Actually smoot isn't my twin but I did have a brother at one time and he died in 1997 at age 20. You are about as classy as Matt perrault.

Controversy might go over real well in large markets but let's be real here, Des Moines is far from a "large market" that kinda 3rd grade ******* match doesn't fly.

My god this is pathetic. It was a radio show, get over it and try and do something productive with your life.

Yep, writing something that's obviously tongue-in-cheek on a message board is exactly the same as saying something on broadcast radio in all seriousness. Apples to apples exactly. Nice work.

Ohhh and GHack while it's true that business owners don't like dealing with unappy customers most realize there are some folks you can satisfy, like those who are unhappy because you did something to cause it, and those they can't, like those who are upset because of something someone said on the show in which they are a sponsor.

Most could care less about the ones they can't satisfy.
