The sponsors are the key to KXNO

Actually you make my point. Any sponsors reading this will get the message. Any sponsors reading this and don't think it makes a diference are fools.

Any KXNO employee reading this and doesn't think this is a problem is also a fool.

And with this post I have to sign off. I actually have to put an advertising proposal and presentation together this afternoon. Not for anyone here in Des Moines, but businesses in Mason City work with me too.

If you are foolish enough to make, nor not make, a five figure purchase decision based on what one on air talk monkey says on the air you are not a customer who most business want.

Again intelligent business owners understand that they can't please everyone. They also realize that the customers that complain the loudest, and for the most insane reasons, are their worst customers. They would rather you take your business elsewhwere in most cases, because while you do contribute a smidge of cash to the top-line, you actually cost them more money than you are worth.

Smart business owners realize that if a person calls in to complain about what show thier advertising is running in they are just as likely to complain that the free donuts in the lounge weren't fresh enough, or someone stole a nickle from your change compartment while you were getting your free oil change... or whatever.

Unless someone gets completely out of line (think Imus' comments on the Rutgers basketball team a few years back) it's a non issue. While Matt's comments are short sighted and ill thought out at best, and slanderous at worst, they aren't near that level.

Let me rephrase that so it doesn't "fly right over your head" (sorry for stealing your catchphrase btw). You might be surprised who works for the sponsors of KXNO programming, and you might be surprised by where I work.

So you work a sponsor of KXNO? Neat. What's your point?

Duffman where have you been all of my life? Well actually where have you been all morning on HN.com? haha

GHawk is definitely the free donuts guy. He is the guy that takes his new Dewey Ford car back to the dearlership when the floor mats get dirty and asks them to clean them. He is the guy that asks the Salvation army bell ringer to explain how the salvation army started before he drops a nickel and two pennies in the bucket. He is the guy that orders a steak at a restraunt, eats 3/4 of it, then sends it back because it wasn't cooked correctly.

You are so spot on with your phrase about customers that cost more than they are worth.

GHawks is the guy who stays at the Super 8 and walks across the street to take advantage of the Holiday Inn's continental breakfast.

Man, I was dying laughing reading this post. Those people deserve a big C'mon Man from the MNF crew. If the store sees its revenue decline it will make appropriate changes. One joker walking in saying I'm not going to buy my car here because you sponsor a radio station that made fun of the Hawkeyes will get laughed out of the dealership.

Funny.... Only in Iowa will you get this reaction of "If you dont like it, Vote/Boycott/Remove the person you don't agree with". I guess its harder and harder to have an opinion or follow the rules in this state without being harshly judged.

Only in Iowa? Have you read a newspaper, watched TV news, radio or any other form of media over the last 10 years? If you've been in a coma, my apologies. But how else could you be so unaware as to think this only happens in Iowa.

I agree they happen everywhere but boycotts are rarely effective in large or small markets, especially those limited to a couple Hawkeye Nation posters.

1) I never said that
2) If I did work a company like that, the boss might be a cyclone fan, a uni fan, or could have graduated from a school in a different state all together and not give 2 ***** about an Iowa player getting his name sullied because that doesn't affect the bottom line
3) The boss definitely doesn't care about what gets posted on this board
4) The boss definitely only cares about how many people are going to be listening to KXNO today from 4-7 or whatever time M&M is on and how many ppl are going to hear his spot. And he thinks its going to be ALOT of people.
5) This makes him feel like he made a good investment with KXNO and he didn't pay a dime extra for that.
6) He will continue to do business with KXNO because KXNO is not MattPerraultXNO its the best sports radio station in town and will continue to be for the foreseeable future and there are already established relationships, neh friendships, that have been made there that a handful of DB's emailing in threats is not going to change. That would be a major sign of weakness and I doubt many other radio stations would be looking to sell adverts to the company in the future.
7) The rule of steps: any business advertising with KXNO is one step removed from KXNO. In order for the plan of action like the one that is being proposed to work, there can not be any steps removed. no one associates the businesses advertising on KXNO with KXNO. To try and affect a business because someone from another company made remarks that had nothing to do with said business to further their own agenda is their right, but it doesn't make it right.

So I guess the overall point is I don't see how hurting local businesses is good for anyone. And I don't see how people can be for that and yet still see so much injustice in what happened on the radio yesterday.

Stopped reading after #2, but it shouldn't matter who you are a fan of, if one of your advertisers is slandering a college kid, you should care about that. Ethically and financially, that can affect you.

Just remember - The Mouth and Perault argue fiction, rumors, and opinions as fact. How seriously can we take them? They aren't news reporters. They're talk show hosts. Big difference.

Which is exactly why it is ridiculous that a couple individuals on here are so offended that they want to boycott the sponsors. It's a sad state of affairs when you decide not to buy a car from a dealership based on what some radio personality says and who buys advertising time from them.

For someone who claims to know how successful business owners think you sure don't spell very well...Just sayin'

Not if they feel strongly about the matter. Who am I to say they can't or shouldn't complain to a sponsor? If that's what they want to do they should do just that. I'd prefer someone other than Perrault be on the air because he isn't credible and says things that get under my skin. This is a Hawkeye State and I think he should have more respect for the audience that lives here and loves the program. He should have more respect for kids, coaches, and people who live in different shoes. He's judgmental. But he's entitled to his opinion and I think most people are of the opinion that they'd like him fired. He's fair game since he puts his opinions and starts arguments on air. I won't call sponsors about this but I certainly turn him off of the air when he upsets me. I also don't buy Nike products primarily because of Tiger Woods.

You got me there:)

Ah, it happens and I was just teasing anyway. I do make my share of spelling errors in large part because I don't proofread my posts and type most of these on my phone. I try to be a little more observant when sending work E-mails.

Great post. Could not agree more. I don't get why Smoot and Cliche keep dogging people for doing what they want to do. Well, I guess I understand for Cliche; he's just not very bright.
