The Sand People Slowly Learning Their Roles In This World...

Road wins at Lincoln in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. That is an amazing achievement for Iowa. Has it ever been done before, by anyone, winning 4 games in a row at Nebraska?
Iowa, Texas, and Oklahoma are the only ones to do it. Okie's best streak there must be 8 games, though.

I don't know that he got it or will get it, but I saw from someone credible on twitter that Pelini was a candidate for DC at LSU. Can't believe some larger school didn't take a chance on him again sooner. Maybe he just wanted to sit at Youngstown and collect the extra pay from Nebraska.

Yep, that's the deal with the contracts. Say Pelini was contractually owed $5 million per year from Nebraska for 5 years or whatever. He also has a contractual duty to mitigate his damages and they will offset earnings against the $25 million they owe. So you go to Youngstown for $200k per year, then Nebraska still has to pay $24 million. Or else you could go to Vandy, have a ton of stress, ruin your prospects and then Nebraska would only have to pay him like $10 million total. Great move by Pelini.

Pelini's last monthly payment from Nebraska was in February of 2019.

Bo was definitely the winner in that deal.

Yeah, and if you string it out to make sure you squeeze every nickel out of Nebraska, by the time February 2019 rolls around it is too late to land a top tier job for the 2019 season, which means his agent is probably out selling him now. Maybe he's still holding out hope for 2020, but I'd be surprised if he's not a DC at a top P5 in 2021.

I think he has enough money and so much hatred for Nebraska after being there that he'd do anything to collect the max from those clowns. I respect the hell out of that. Was he an asshole and completely out of line yelling about the fans leaving? Maybe, certainly no more so than my personal hero, Lee Elia, though. But the guy is a damned good football coach.

He just took the LSU job.

He needed to get back up in big boy ball. Adds to the list of characters that is the SEC. If only him and Leach could have teamed up. Glorious.
I actually like Pelini and I respect him as a coach.

He got fired for being an asshole, but the people he was an asshole to deserved every bit of it.

When he had his rant in the locker room talking shit about the fans in Lincoln he was 100% correct. I respect a guy who's willing to say what he feels instead of putting on a false front. F 'em. Recording someone secretly when they're spilling their guts to you is bush league, and I hope anyone slimy enough do that to someone else gets 15 painful years of ass cancer.

Bo was ahead of his time. He saw and knew what many of us now know so well...that Nebby fans are out of touch with reality.

Iowa's win against Nebraska will match the same amount of all time wins against them that Iowa State has. Iowa has played Nebraska 40 times while the Clowns have played them 101 times.

I get way, way more enthused about this game than I do ISU. The clown game sucks shark shit.

If Iowa's goal is to win the Big Ten and qualify for the CFP, the Iowa State game makes no sense at all for the following reasons:

1. Iowa State is rarely, if ever, ranked when we play them, so a win is expected and therefore doesn't move the needle for Iowa. I'm guessing over the last 40 years Iowa has been FAVORED over Iowa State at least 95% of the time, including last fall, If I recall correctly.
2. We don't need to play Iowa State for strength of schedule. Playing in the Big Ten accomplishes that for us.
3. If you LOSE the game because Iowa State is punching above their weight (which can happen), it can COST you the CFP.

Bottom line, we have everything to lose and nothing to gain from the ISU game. Two obvious illustrations:

1. In 2002, ISU stages a miraculous comeback, beats Iowa 36-31, and therefore we finish 11-1. Ohio State (a team that may have been inferior to Iowa in 2002), squeaks out 12-0 and then wins the national championship. Would we have been in the national championship game that year at 12-0? Possibly. Could we have defeated an overrated Miami of Florida team that year in the national championship game? Possibly.

2. In 2015, Iowa beats ISU, goes 12-0, and comes within a few inches of beating MSU, which would have put Iowa in the CFP. If Iowa had lost to ISU in 2015, no way they would have qualified for the CFP, even with a win over MSU.

I know the ISU-Iowa series will continue, but the game makes zero sense in the current CFP playoff format. Zero. I love the bragging rights and it is thrilling to beat ISU, but there is all down side and no up side for Iowa.

If a team is serious about the CFP and you are in the Big Ten, you are better off to play 3 MAC teams. I know that is a boring thought for Iowa fans, but it is reality. Go 3-0 in your nonconference with no injuries, go 8-1 in the Big Ten, win the conference championship game, and you may qualify for the current 4 team CFP. The Big Ten is a brutal conference, so playing tough non-conference games makes no sense. It is the same reason why Penn State doesn't play Pitt every year.
