Did you note the 'affluenza' tweet that Vandevelde 'tweeted'. I'm sure the parents have a whole lot to do with the way he is acting. Spoiled because he was adopted, spoiled because he was an athlete, spoiled because he could be spoiled given their status, and spoiled for reasons that probably would be deemed politically incorrect, so I won't include them here.

I have a feeling this is a trend with situations like this. You have parent's that want to help, but they don't have set boundaries because they want to be welcoming instead of confrontational. They never want to hear "Your'e not my Mom" so they never push.

The problem is that when a dog never reaches the end of his leash, he will just keep going farther away. That is what this whole thing is about. At Iowa he had a leash. That leash appears to have been longer than everyone else on the team, yet it wasn't long enough for DJK. It is probably the first time that actual discipline took precedent over Derrell's "feelings."

Is HomerChampless arguing DJK did have NFL talent? If so, he's the first person I've ever seen actually take that stance other than DJK himself (which honestly wouldn't surprise me). Several of us are still waiting for Homer to come up with a poster who doesn't think he's clueless by the way... He just conveniently stopped responding in that thread. Coincidence? I think not.

I don't understand why people keep arguing this point. IF DJK HAD NFL TALENT HE WOULD BE IN THE LEAGUE. It's that simple. One man and a bad rep aren't enough to keep someone out of the NFL. He didn't have what it took to be in the damn CFL or AFL. Can we just lay this argument to rest?

DJK is delusional. He's as delusional as it gets. He's stuck inside his own head. He can't see things from anyone else's point of view. I would love to see him interviewed by someone who has real legitimate inside information, and wasn't afraid to use it. It would be hilarious. It would be like watching Sarah Palin get interviewed by Katie Couric. A complete and total trainwreck. He would bury himself.

I would disagree with the NFL talent. I think he has/had the physical tools. He lacked the psychological/mental/emotional tools, apparently.

He could have been a kickoff/punt returner. He could have been a utility receiver. He had enough speed, wasn't too small, had definitely improved his downfield blocking during his career at U of I. It is obvious he was his own worst enemy. What we "heard" while he was on the team is now being "verified" by his public persona.

In reading DJK's tweets again, I'm not concerned about the reputation of the football program being tarnished by a book by DJK, I'm worried that the vaunted reputation of the writing program at the UI will be damaged by such a book.

There will be no book. The "offer" for a book deal is probably just someone told DJK that he should totally write a book about how KF screwed him over and in his mind he now has a major book deal all ready to go. Seriously, what's the market for a book about a mid level B10 team that went to one BCS bowl in his time period? Would anyone here have any interest in reading a Paul Johnson take down written by Josh Nebitt? Didn't think so, he's not writing a book on the late 80's/early 90's Miami program.

I agree. My guess all along is DJK hopes the attention will get him a segment on "30 for 30" ala his homeboy Maurice Clarett. I'm not sure he's smart enough or has the motivation to actually write a book, even if someone wrote most of it for him.

Haha this is funny. I think everyone had an idea what or who he was referring to wundergrape. The way he chooses to express himself is the point.

Who in their right mind is going to take the opinion of someone seriously who compliments his girlfriend by comparing her to a bad bag of money? Especially when you look at his resume. I have a feeling publishing companies will laugh him out of their office. Unless somehow he managed to find one desperate enough to cover this filth.

Every generation uses slang. Who cares? I have a problem with what he says. If I spent my time being bothered by how people say things, I'd go nuts....and I certainly wouldn't be able to tolerate sports forums.
