The refs will be atrocious tonight!

what a sport

ppl are worried about officials changing the outcome of the game before it even starts. wow we are searching here kids

The refs were, in fact, atrocious. It didn't determine the game and I'm not suggesting they were biased. But it was a terribly officiated basketball game.

First half was decent (and not because Iowa was winning, they were letting the players play).
Second half was just awful.

The 15-0 run by OSU won the game, no doubt.
The refs did suck though.

The guy who started the thread was being sarcastic. And that Lighty TO call was correct. He dribbled the ball down to the ground and then regained possession quick for the TO. I could see some argument on whether it was a TO or jump ball, but that's it.

They have been brutal in the 2nd half. You have to admit it.
Pathetic came to mind alot.
When was it decided that its OK for the offensive player to dislodge the defender from his position and not be called for a foul. I have never understood that about BB.
And for all the posters that like to deny the effect of refs and umpires. THEY ALWAYS HAVE AN AFFECT ON ANY SPORT AND THE OUTCOMES OF PLAY. ALWAYS.

If refs actually called fouls by the book there would be a ridiculous amount of offensive fouls called in both pro and college ball.

SO how do you know it didn't affect the outcome?
These type of omniscient comments always intrigue me,

"Affect" and "Determine" are two different things. The Hawks made plenty of their own mistakes that affected the game much more than any officiating could. If Cartwright forces a couple less of those mid-lane floaters and dishes it out of there, maybe we get better looks elsewhere. If we defended the 3-ball better, maybe OSU doesn't push the lead. All of those things, including the officiating, affected the game. But the officiating didn't decide who won the game. Sullinger did that.

Orrrrrrr the players might learn to play "by the book"
Nah, your right too much work to play game the right way.

I just stated a fact I never stated an opinion on the matter.

I don't understand what Baldies issue is? Is he some ancient guy who grew up playing in the peach basket era?

If the refs called the game by the book the entire Iowa and OSU team would have fouled out. By the book you are not allowed as a defender to make contact with the offensive player and ALL players hand check.

Nice try with the symantics. No one knows how it would come out under different circumstances. As you say "all those things" affect and thus determine the outcome.
Its ridiculous at best to think people enorcing the rules of a game don't help determine the outcome.
What the **** are they out there for if not to keep the cheaters from cheating?

Of course the sum of "all of those things" determine the outcome. But very, very rarely can one point to the officiating and say "THAT is why we lost the game." The 2006 Outback Bowl would be a candidate for that title (up for debate, IMO).

the weather has a factor in games there are millions of POSSIBLE reasons that could affect a game..your taking it little to far for this argument

LOL. Peach basket cute!
If players would have played by the book over the last 20 yrs then we wouldn't be discussing it now.
So as you pointed out the defender can't make contact why can the offender? Thats just the point.

Are YOU like a million years old and played BB OUTSIDE with a peach basket?
Last I knew college BB games are played indoors.
Are you a wrestler?

Yeah that's my point. Stay away from the offensive player so he can not initiate contact..... Hence get some great shooters and you will start seeing scores like they were in the late 60's/70's... Games a lower scoring due to how much contact is allowed.

I could care less how the game is played, no defense high scoring as hell or mugging defense and low scoring. However the game is called I could care less as long as the game is officiated consistently (ie... foul in first half is called the same in the second half)....

It seems you keep harping on this like you think Iowa got screwed tonight. If I can have one Iowa game where there is not a frigging post game thread about the refs I might die if it doesn't happen... the funny thing about this is it was started scarcastically stating he would save time because some group of people will have to bring up the officiating... The better team won tonight and I don't think the officiating was one sided either way.

if the weather is bad outside people can't attend a home game and would affect home field advantage therefore changing outcome of game if we are starting to bring in all elements
