The perfect addition for the Big Ten? TCU

Texas Christian University, located in Ft Worth would be an excellent addition to the Big Ten.

1) Very strong academically

2) Gets the Big Ten into Texas and the south, where populations are growing and climate is a bit more temperate.

3) Best of all...........they have a GREAT FOOTBALL program.
Unlike Notre Dame

:D

It is a stupid idea. TCU is a private college for one. They have a good undergraduate program, but not a large research and gradustae program like the other Big 10 schools.

The biggest problem is that it is really, really, really small. There are fewer than 9,000 students. That is more than half of the number of students Northwestern has. The Big 10 is not in the market for a smaller Northwestern.

It is a foolish idea on its head. TCU will not join a BCS conference ever.

Horrible idea in my opinion. Yeah it opens up Texas but why go after a private university that cannot even sell out there ~40,000 seat stadium?? I mean they arent going to bring in my revenue to the Big 10. The Big 10 needs a big public university with a strong research and graduate level programs. I personally would like Pitt or Rutgers to join the Big 10......

The Big 10 is about MUCH more than football. Most of the suggestions people have only make sense if football were the only qualification. Does TCU have any kind of respectable sports program other than football? I looked and couldn't even find a wrestling program there and the Big 10 is the premier wrestling conference in the country.

was thinking that very thing after seeing this...couldn't compete in any other sports

No.

It will happen soon. Much better football than Notre Dame, or Rutgers.

By the way, for the less well-informed (above with weird pic)...........NW is a private school. And TCU is a larger private school, in a growth area.

As much as I'd love for TCU to join the Big Ten, it's not going to happen. More likely to happen is Missouri to the Big Ten. Oklahoma to the Big 12 North, and TCU to the Big 12 south.

Fail, Ever. Again and as usual. Is your house of cards very drafty this time of year?

TCU Fall 2009 total enrollment @ 8,853 students.
TCU -- Office of Communications

Northwestern Fall 2008 (2009 n/a) enrollment @ 14,644 students (Evanston campus only; adding in the Chicago campus brings the total to 19,310 students).
2009 enrollment : Northwestern University Search Results

Why in the world would the Big Ten want Missouri? Easy access to Branson? :(

Look, I know the reasons why some other schools look better than others, like Pitt and Rutgers, but as an Iowan I would prefer the expansion team to be from the western edge of Big 10 country, especially somebody like Mizzou or Nebby. It creates another natural border rival and gives travelling Iowa fans one more option if they decide to attend away games. Plus bragging rights are so much better against these type of teams. Seriously, if Rutgers was added, what kind of smack talk can come from beating them? Bring on somebody from the Big 12...

Typical ploy to mess with the numbers, including grad students, nice try, vantage.

I don't even think that TCU would get added to the Big 12 if the Big Ten poached Missouri. I think one of the Utah schools would make more sense. TCU is football only as others have pointed out. You could make the same argument against them that many make against Rutgers. People in Dallas don't care about TCU. Thier priorities are the Cowboys, Texas, and possibly A&M. The Big 12 doesn't need another Baylor.

Ever. Missouri makes sense. Word is, they want to join the Big Ten, and the word down here is that TCU wants to be in the Big 12. Oklahoma moving to the Big 12 North would bring credability back to the North. They need to have at least one good team. ;)

They could still have the Red River Shootout with Texas.

Not a chance for TCU. If the Big10 is going to go to Texas, why aim so low? Texas A&M would be a better get.

Doesn't matter. TCU. A&M. Texas. None of them are going to the Big10

Why aim so low? Football wise TCU has 5, 11 win seasons since 2002.
Some could argue they should be playing for the National Title this year. I happen to agree.

I agree there is 0% chance of them coming to the Big Ten. I also agree that there is a 0% chance of any Texas school joining the Big 10.
