The perfect addition for the Big Ten? TCU

Typical ploy to mess with the numbers, including grad students, nice try, vantage.

You know, I would be heartless if I didn't occasionally feel embarassed for this guy.

Watching him try to converse with people is like watching a toddler play chess against Kasperov.

No way the Big Ten hops over a couple of states to get to Texas or Massachusetts (Boston College) to add a 12th team. Pitt makes perfect sense already in a Big Ten state. A ready made rivalry vs. PSU.

I really hope this is a joke. TCU is good at football this year and will be next year maybe...then they'll go back to being a no name then it's great that we have them, right?! You would never be saying this is they weren't in a BCS game this year. Not to mention that it's like 1000 miles away and that's a lot of traveling for TCU to have to do to play teams in the midwest

Why in the world would the Big Ten, or anyone, with the exception of maybe a poser like Ghost of the bustamante? prefer South Bend, (an armpit) NYC (another one) to the Dallas metroplex? And especially when TCU has the better football team.

TEXAS CHRISTIAN it is. I've crafted a letter to Delany already.

Just beause TCU is in Dallas doesn't mean that there are a lot of fans in that area. Once TCU goes back to being a mediocre program there will be even less. Going to TCU for a game is like going to a bowl game since it's so far away. Indianapolis...Columbus...Minneapolis...DALLAS? No. This topic is a complete joke. I'll take Notre Dame's tradition over one or two years of good TCU football when ND is down.

Why aim so low? Football wise TCU has 5, 11 win seasons since 2002.
Some could argue they should be playing for the National Title this year. I happen to agree.

I agree there is 0% chance of them coming to the Big Ten. I also agree that there is a 0% chance of any Texas school joining the Big 10.
The Big10 is going to look at more than just how good a football program has been for the last 7 years. And if adding a Texas school is a possibility (it isn't) then adding a non-BCS private school from Texas would be aiming low when A&M and TX are there to be invited.

Nobody plays chess anymore. Not even Kasparov. Or Deep Blue.

Texas Christian University, located in Ft Worth would be an excellent addition to the Big Ten.

1) Very strong academically

2) Gets the Big Ten into Texas and the south, where populations are growing and climate is a bit more temperate.

3) Best of all...........they have a GREAT FOOTBALL program.
Unlike Notre Dame

:D

Do they have any running backs as awesome as Paki O'Meara though?

Your judgment is, well, without peer.

OMG.

The stupid. It burns.

NYC is an armpit? LOL!!! Only to a clueless hick. To everyone else it's one of the great cities of the world.

Dallas...ah, yes. Freeways for miles and miles and miles and miles.

I'm sure Delany (sp) will be drooling with anticipation when he reads your manifesto.

Is this a joke? Have your checked out their post grad programs? THey really have no post grad programs. No law school, No Medical school, No COllege of engineering, No College of dentistry. Every university under the sun has a Graduate program in Business, Nursing, and LIberal arts. Heck you can't even get a PHD in theology and it is a supposed Christian affiliated school. They are way way behind in Graduate studies. They are NOWHERE near any big 10 school in terms of research and Graduate studies.

what number is smaller than zero?

now, TCU to the Big 12? I'll buy that

I would buy that, too. TCU to the B12 after one of the B12 members moves to the B10 (possibly Mizzou or Nebraska).

These moves make sense.

TCU was an original Southwest conference member, and it makes some sense for them to rejoin their B12 South division old conference mates (Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, T A&M, etc).

The B12 was formed by smashing the SWC and the Big 8 together..sort of.

...and I don't think the B10 is interested in adding members that don't meet some pretty strict academic criteria (research institution, many programs, lots of post grad, etc).

PSU was a great addition to the B10, both athletically and academically. They fit the mold perfectly.

Be sure to sharpen your crayon.

It's kind of pathetic that you refer to South Bend and NYC as "armpits" btw. Have you been outside of your own state, Everhawk? Your own basement?

The SWC dropped to eight teams in 1991 when Arkansas bolted from the conference. The SWC wanted to hook up with the Big 8 to form a 16-team super conference. If memory serves, the Big 8 was worried that the Texas schools would run the show and agreed to take four of the eight. We all know how that turned out.

For the record, here are schools who left from 1991 to 1996 and where the ended up:
Arkansas (1991 exit) - SEC
Baylor (1996) - Big 12
Rice (1996) - WAC, then to CUSA
SMU (1996) - WAC, then to CUSA
Texas (1996) - Big 12
Texas A&M (1996) - Big 12
Texas Tech (1996) - Big 12
TCU - (1996) WAC, then to Mountain West
Houston - CUSA.

TCU moving into the B12 South would be natural. A Texas team moving to the B10 would not be...and as discussed in other threads any school would need to be a member of the American Association of Universities. TCU is not. Neither is ND -- however I believe the conference would make an exemption for them. I doubt the same would be true of TCU.
At one time I thought TCU would make a nice addition to the B10, but after thinking about it more and looking deeper, I no loger think they would be a good fit.

Thanks for the very informative post.

No problem Racer. I have a love of college football and history. Once in a great while the combining those passions is useful. :)

Dude, are you even an Iowa fan?
Assuming you aren't let me explain something to you. There are a great deal of Iowa fans (about as many as anybody in the country) that like to attend the majority of away games. I for one have been to every Big Ten stadium in the last 4 years, which has been a wonderful experience. I have seen many of the same Hawks at each of them. Don't think for a second the players/coaches don't notice either. They do and are motivated by it.
If we allowed a team such as TCU (I mean simply geographically) into our beloved conference it would seriously damage our fanbase's ability to travel to away games.
There are many other reasons this is a dumb idea (size, tradition, future, every sport other than football, academics, etc) but geography alone makes this a dumb idea.
The Big Ten is famous for its huge stadiums (lead the country by far) and massive fan attendence. I think we need to adopt somebody with at least 60,000 fans in their stadium every game. Anything else would be, well, Dumb.
