The Official Happy Valentine's Day Massacre Game Thread

Just remember all of you negative nellies, naysayers...if Fran is fired...Iowa won't be able to hire another coach...then what? The fundamentals will erode...

Playing offense is fun...playing defense is hard work...little instant gratification, not as easy to identify who is actually doing it right...

Playing against a team that doesn't "do defense" is fun, a day off, lots of shots.

Playing against a team that loves to play tight, team, fundamental defense is a long game of work and frustration. It becomes a battle of wills.

Most often, opponents have a day off when they play Iowa...fun, up and down, work on some threes...wait for Iowa to start grabbing, getting lazy, and enjoy their turnovers.

The players don't hold the other players accountable for poor defense, the coaches don't either.

It isn't that complicated...

Should be interesting if Connor has a nice baseball season.

From this article today, it looks like Connor is red-shirting in baseball too. Lots of health challenges for Connor this year. I hope he can make it back to healthy in either or both sports.

But what next for Connor?

Playing baseball is no longer a realistic option this season; Heller's team is already off to a 3-0 start. Connor plans to join the team at some point, but realizes that the sensible plan is to redshirt.

He needs to regain his strength. Even though he’ll likely end up redshirting in both sports, he hasn’t enjoyed the benefits of a true redshirt year — the intense strength training, the full-speed practices.

Fran McCaffery said in hindsight, “maybe it was too much” to try both sports as a freshman.

Connor said playing two sports remains the plan, and that this year isn't a fair sample size of whether he can handle it. For now, he just doesn't want to get sick again.

“Just taking things slow, trying to get back to a healthy state,” he said. “Big-picture, I don’t want to have more of these hiccups and then end up worse.”
