The genius that is BF as OC......

Whatever you do, avoid the turnover, we'll take the FG opportunity. Play it safe. Run the ball, hold it with two arms, tight, don't risk a long gain by doing anything stupid. Put it on the back of our punter.

Not many surprises.

Haters gonna hate. We are 5-2 and trending for 7-5/ 8-4 and playing Duke or Wake Forest or Texas A & M or Missouri or Cal or Arizona St to possibly lock up that 4th team out in the final Top 25 rankings.

More importantly, we will be ranked #16 for cumulative wins in the past 17 1/2 years.

Ironically [or not) that will be statistic GarBar throws out at the press conference announcing our new HC. He winks at Deano who is sitting in the front row trying not to wet himself.

Was looking around at some stuff today, and I am wondering without looking it up if anyone could figure out what B1G teams go with the corresponding YPG stats. This is what B1G teams are averaging vs Top 25 teams, and I only used teams that have played more than one top 25 team.

310 YPG
328 YPG
289 YPG
257 YPG
279 YPG
265 YPG
227 YPG

Once again this is yard per games of B1G teams who have played more than 1 top 25 opponent.

Oh hi @skinnykilmer17 good to know I'm living rent free in your head.

Are you going to add ypg to your billboard with the cumulative wins? Awesome. Touchdowns going to be included? On the back maybe?

Iowa has made more field goals than extra points (17/16). How is that even possible given the cupcakes we play OCC and a little over 1/2 thru a season?
Stanley sorely misses the red zone presence of Fant and Hocks.

So do the running backs, who get more red zone attention when defenses don't have to account for #87 and #38.

Somebody has to step up in this regard. You can't count on your kicker to make nearly 90% of his fg attempts all season. Someone is going to make us truly pay. If Purdue hadn't fumbled inside our 10 yard line (and that was 50/50 at best) we may have already had to.

They might have to start playing the Iowa fight song after FG's

With Brandon Smith out we may be back to our no TD ways. Stanley and BF have no idea how to score TD's once they get in the red zone.

Oh I know where you are going with this and I know the hawks have been getting their 300+ yards against ISU, PSU, and Mich so they are near the top of that list.

But just as it is with defensive stats the number 1 main stat is scoring offense and scoring defense.

The number 1 stat is scoring, averting the other team scoring, and wins. In 2017 the hawks had wild swings in points they put up in various games. The variance was huge with iirc 3 games with 50+ points, 1 or two games with 40 but then lay an egg efforts of much smaller points against Purdue, and some other teams.

Work on power running the ball straight ahead to get another ypc and work on getting the running backs open on the edge for passes because Goodson, Sargent and even IKM in open space might be what we need to score.

Pound the ball straight ahead in the red zone, hell even use a Stanley 5 yard QB sneak on first down ;)

I agree that the only thing that really matters is scoring points and we did struggle to put up points vs those teams. I just also found it interesting that Iowa is near the top of the list in YPG vs top 25 teams. I mean I am told that Iowa's offense sucks vs top teams, but shocker of all shockers it seems everyone struggles to get yards vs good teams.

The really depressing thing to say, and I am going to say depressing in the context of KF football, is that I thought this team would be 8-4 with a good chance at 9-3. I thought that would be a nice record for all the graduations and early leavers. Looking at how good the defense is, because I thought they would take a while to gel, this team should very well be undefeated. The defense does it with very good assignment football, position, angles and usually very good tackling since they are not a super fast defense.

They can move the ball and make some big offensive plays, they have a better punter, but it has been the story many times, many years that the hawks offense just cant get to scoring a lot.

Well I have seen the fade thrown. So it can be done. McNutt was money on this.
I commented a few weeks ago that while short of the sticks, we had someone who could keep their feet in and extend out for the catch. That's always nice to have.
Both of those are nice when inside the red zone.

Dean. Just stop. Every time you put up some meaningful stats, someone from Team Caddy finds some unrelated stat as an argument that Iowa is no good. Next you will be telling us that the Hawks are in the top 15 for wins in the last (many) years. Oh, wait. Never mind.

Records are irrelevant when you’ve beaten no one
