The Day Football Died

It is a sad day indeed. It's just unfortunate irregardless of whether or not JoePa is guilty or not that his legacy will forever be tarnished by this situation. As I mentioned irregardless, he was an idol and living legend of the sport to date, prior to this situation. Now everyone will remember THIS...

The thing is this isn't a football story. It's a story of a sick man and the people around him that didn't have the balls to stand up and do the right thing. Football is just the backdrop.

SO bye bye Miss American Pie. Drove the Chevy to the Levy, but the levey had dried. Them good Ole boys were drinkin wiskey and wine. The day that football died.

Football only died for PSU. It was a self inflicted Morality wound.

I don't often agree with your take on things, but this time I do. I am so sorry that this has
brought down a coaching legend, someone who has earned my respect (I'm Damn near as old as Jo Pa), over the years. But, if this scandal results in just one future situation that prevents another occurence of this kind of child abuse, it's worth it. Damn, Damn, Damn!!! Life is not always fair.

On a side note I guess I didn't realize I took enough of a stand either way to be controversial enough to have somebody not agree with my takes. Guess I have arrived! :D

If I'm being a bit extreme, I apologize now, but to me this is an incomprehensible failure of humanity. Yes, this sh$t goes on in the world, but these are people in incredible positions of responsibility that are intrusted directly and indirectly with forming youth into the backbone of America and they FAILED at every level possible. This is a complete breakdown in morals and ethics at an unheard of level in America. No arrest, conviction, or just being fired can ever complete the moral sentence they've already been handed down.

You are right on all counts. You have touched on why so many people are do disgusted and outraged at this scandal.

Five years ago, I filed a lawsuit against an Archdiocese because of abuse I suffered at the hands of a priest. I was vilified by many in letters to the editor. Perhaps the PSU story will enable us to become enlightened that people matter more than institutions.

Socal, I'm so sorry for what some bastard put you through. I am a Catholic who completely disagrees with the handling of the abuses within the Church. I'm sorry you and others were failed.

My first thought was that perhaps, the public outcry would provide some comfort to these (and other) victims. Instead I turn on ESPN and see a thousand students gathering at PSU to support their POS. Disgusting.

Thank you, iowuh. Sandusky's victims paid a high price for the silence of JoePa and others. Maybe the attention it is mow getting will prompt others tonstep in and protect children.

thats what we (wife and I) were saying earlier tonight, that hopefully the positives if any, that can come from a bad situation as this are: a) to bring more awareness to child abuse that is often, mostly, found all around us, and more often than not, by those in a position of authority or trust. and b) with my respects to you Social, that this will also revive the whole Catholic Church issues and cover ups and again bring to the forefront how thoroughly damning child abuse and sexual child abuse is to those victims, and further to the families, and ultimately to our society.

I was thinking about doing my research paper on how important and influential sports is in America. Then this all happened and it pretty much sums it up.

All of this happened in order to protect a football program and a coach. People are willing to put football above morals... Above child molestation and rape. It is sickening, really. And to add to the disgust, we now have fans supporting a man that allowed this to happen and continue... But why? Because he is a football icon? If he were a 2nd year coach... Would the students be rioting? If football had nothing to do with this and we were talking about some guy who works at a gas station and his boss helped cover it up... Would ANYONE be taking their side and saying they should keep their job?

No. It's because sports have become such a huge part of our culture that we are now putting it before the well-being of children.

How anyone can stand up and defend JoePa is beyond me. The guy deserves to be looked at with the same disgust as any other person who allows children to be raped.

This shouldn't be about a football legacy... This should be about the individuals and their failure to act with any decency and morality.

Football coach or not, JoePa is a piece of **** in my book.
