Surprise Surprise the Clown...Mesa got it wrong.

The Big East's current TV deal pays it's football and basketball schools about 3 million a year. That is nearly 12 million a year less. Jumping to a conference like that without TV deal guarantees could be incredibly damaging.

And in regard to the travel, there are a great many sports and teams that travel by bus now which is much, much cheaper than flying. That sort of expense increase would likely cause ISU to drop some more sports.

The Big East is up for a new contract, and they will be in the same ballpark per team once is all said and done. You won't be losing 12 million a year going to the Big East.

Using the figures the Big East reportedly turned down from ESPN -- $1.4 billion for nine years -- the league's nine football members (including TCU) would have earned between $14.5 million and $16.93 million a year

This is the deal they turned down. They can and will make more than that in the open market with Fox, NBC, and ESPN/ABC bidding for them.

It sounds like there is talk of BYU coming to the Big 12 for football only. How would other Big 12 schools feel about another team coming with another network? It's one thing to make concessions for Texas, but for BYU? Will that really make the Big 12 stable for a long period of time? I really don't know the answer.

I think the ACC, Big East, and remainder of the Big 12-Texas should join forces and form 2 super-conferences. I have said before I don't like super-conferences, but like it or not, they are coming and those 3 are the most vulnerable. Why not plan for the future and make a move? I know it's not likely to happen, but it's just an idea.

Ahh, my fault, good point there, I was not aware of it. That said, ISU cannot jump, because we couldn't pay the exit fee. He needs to be in discussions with the Big East so that if we do melt down, we have a place there. Or we need to bring other teams with us to the Big East. Regardless, it's not cut and dry. And I still don't think the Big East is any safer, plus they'd have to kick out some basketball schools and leave them to form some sort of Catholic basketball league. A 24 team basketball league makes no sense whatsoever.

I will stick with what I said. IF, and I've always said IF (and I even said Notre Dame wouldn't join a conference for a while) Notre Dame joins a conference it will be the Big 12. .

Neighbor is a ND grad and huge fan. You don't want to hear what he (and according to him) the fan base thinks about joining the big 12.

You are out of touch with reality regarding ND. The only reason ND would hint at joining the Big 12 is to get the Big 10 to give them a sweet deal. That is all.

Oh well, if your neighbor says so.....

TV. They get to keep their NBC deal and join a conference. Something that can't happen in the Big 10.

ND is not joining the Big 12. It makes zero sense. They wouldn't get to keep the NBC deal exactly as it is configured because they show ALL their games, and Tier 1 games are control by ESPN. Why would the Big 12 want them if they got zero TV properties out of them? I agree with those that say ND is joining the Big 10 if they have to join a conference - all their natural rivalries are right there. ND doesn't need money, and they care about tradition more than anything. The Big 10 is where their tradition is.

Having their own tv deal is not what would keep them from joining the Big10 you fool. Have you looked to see how much they get from NBC vs what they would get from the BTN? LOL at you!

I do disagree there. Having their own TV deal is part of the ND lifestyle. They think they are better than everybody else and having their own deal plays into that. They'd make more in the Big 12 too, but it doesn't mean anything. They'll keep it going as long as humanly possible. The only way it changes is if the Big 10 schools stop agreeing to play them unless they join the conference.

Is it about a TV deal or is it about making more money? JD and Deace talked about this last year and showed how ND would make more money by joining the B10.
