student section

Not to beat a dead horse, but I will. What can we do to convince the athletic dept to move the student section for next year. I think if we do that more students will attend games.

Aaron White has to plead to the fans to show up for Wednesdays game.

The students could show up for the games for a start. It's not going to look good when you put the student section behind the benches and no is there.

When I was a student during the Alford era student tickets were an extremely hot commodity. What is the reason students no longer go to the games? We have to have the worst student section in the b1g.

I think generally speaking for any fan, attending a game live has lost its appeal over time as coaches get more timeouts, there are more TV timeouts etc. There is no flow to the game, so for fans it's lots of standing around with nothing to watch. Every time a team goes on a mini-run, opposing coach immediately calls TO to make sure the crowd doesn't get going. Attending games in person sucks compared to the good old days.

You do make some valid points here. As far as the UI goes, they are more interested in giving those seats to the big donors, it seems to me.

For whatever reason, Iowa fans don't support hoops anymore unless all the ingredients are just right. Like above 40 degree weather and non school nights, then and only then will people attend the games. Oh, and make sure high school wrestling isn't going on either....and if it's a holiday, forget about it. It's pathetic. I live 5 hours away and I have been to 3 games this season and an away game.

We have a great team this season and no ones showing up. I get the point of the live game experience going down hill, but seriously, other schools in the area that are competitive as Iowa aren't having the same issue.

Been a LONG time now, but as a student I found it hard to just get to games. Was dedicated, so I never missed but it often involved trudging through snow, cutting through the hospital, and trudging through more snow.. Always thought a hyped-up express Cambus from downtown to CHA would have been a good idea. Instead, it was like the campus had no idea there was a game going on.

Have you not heard, they are going to do it AFTER they paint the water tower!

Iowa is too worried about pizzing off the blue hairs who pay the bill. That's the jist of it.

That's just a lazy excuse now. But, you make a valid point they should provide a straight shot bus route for students from downtown to the arena on game days. That would definitely help. Carver, for some reason, is a pain in the azz to park around, so can be a deterrent when one is deciding to go from their 71 degrees apartment.

I agree with the TV timeouts, game flow, etc. related to the live experience. I think the erratic schedule is also a factor. It used to be that there was a game at 7 p.m. on a week night (was it Wednesday?) and then a game Saturday afternoon. Now games are played almost every night of the week, Saturday morning/afternoon/evening and Sunday morning/afternoon/evening. A fan can't block out Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon all season knowing there's going to be an Iowa basketball game.

I love having multiple networks showing games and having the opportunity to watch other Big 10 teams play. But I have to make a point each week to check the day and time Iowa plays.

What comes first, the chicken or the egg. If you move the student section behind the benches, would that entice more students show up for games?

Let me see. Now I can be nice about this or get real direct. Think I'll take the latter.

Many of today's Iowa students are a bunch of whiney, liberal, PC, wussified spoiled brats who care nothing about athletics. That trend of current student will hopefully reverse itself in a few years. The jury is still out on that until certain people are gone.
