STORY: The Hawkeyes May Have Found A Punter

Fry, please send me the tape of the kid sitting on the bench who is ready to boom 60 yard punts, but doesn't have the cash to get on the field.

Now, if you want to make the argument that KF purposefully shanked his recruitment of punters to get this kid an opportunity, okay, I will wear my tinfoil hat and listen. But, I saw the competition on the field with Gersonde with my own eyes, and Rassy was the shiniest turd on that pile . . . unfortunately.[/QUOTE]

Made me chuckle.

I’ll do you one better. Give this an honest to goodness watch (it’s only six minutes), and tell me how the statistically worst punter in D-1 not only doesn’t get benched, but his backup doesn’t even get a chance. In effect you’re saying that Gersonde was worse than the worst punter in college football. So, Iowa has the two worst punters in America on its roster? What are the mathematical odds of that? And not only did the guy keep the starting job, he came back as the starter again for christ’s sake. No coach on earth keeps repeatedly playing a kid who is that bad unless there’s some back room shit going on. Watch this honestly and tell me he’s not petting Bruce.

Tough to argue. Yea, what are the odds Iowa has the two worst punters on the same roster. I had to stop at the 2:50 mark. Seriously looked like high school punting.

KF of all people is not going to purposefully put a worse punter on the field for cash. First, KF is rich and has all the job security in the world. Don't think he needs to rub the leg of anyone at this point in his career. Be serious.

Second, the guy loves to punt! Its like his favorite play to call. He lives to punt. No way he is shorting the most valued unit on the squad.

Gersonde is just as bad. KF recruited two bad punters, one of which may have been offered as a mild favor to a friend of the program. But, KF put the best of two flaming bags of poop onto the field. That's the extent of the story here.

You may be right but you'll never get me to believe Gersonde is even worse than Rastetter. The odds of that are incredibly small. If Gersonde is truly so bad he can't beat out the worst punter in D1 football then why does he have a scholarship??

The answer you’re going to keep getting to that question is that Kirk Ferentz is the most morally upright football coach who’s ever walked the planet, so therefore he’s incapable of doing sketchy things like giving favors to one of the biggest donors in program history.

That’s bullpucky, but it’s how Kirk’s honor guard think.

You guys think he took a private jet to Hubbard more than once so he could play in a bean bag tournament or go on a hay ride?

It is possible that his uncle helped get him through the door to be on the team. I seriously doubt Kirk is just going to play him over punters that are better because his uncle is a big donor. Otherwise, why would Kirk even be kicking the tires on this Australian guy?

Rational and KF are not synonymous.

He has been a below-average punter but it's not like this is like playing Jon Lickliter at point guard for awhile. If CR was as bad at punting as Little Lick was at playing point, I'd buy into this theory.

It's fair to criticize Kirk's recruitment of punters but to think he would intentionally put the team at risk to lose more games through bad punting to please a donor is absurd.

Gotta better explanation?

So no one on thr team can fo better?

OK, lets say you have a nephew on the football team. Now lets say that you love the University of Iowa, enough that you would donate a filthy sum of money to the school. Now lets say the coach would offer to let your nephew play just because of the money you donated. Would you put the success of the school you love at risk for the sake of your nephew playing? Would you want your nephew out there embarrassing himself in front 70,000 people? Maybe if you didn't like your nephew you would. But then you wouldn't care either way would you?

Lots of grassy knoll folks on here I see.

Back and to the left.

Steve, I love ya man, and I'm no conspiracy theorist, but it's pretty much painfully obvious that Uncle Bruce was the reason Rastetter was our punter for two seasons. There's literally no other reason someone that bad at their job would keep their job for two full seasons unless there was more to the story. Our QB punted farther than our punter and our QB didn't even look like he was trying.

What, you didn't like the line drive rugby punts that the return team caught 10 yards down the field????

I was at the outback bowl and that was officially the worse punt in Iowa football history. Glad I was there to experience it.
