Stanley's take on the game

Ok, good come back boys.

Last shot, can you guys go get him a friggin beer and a real haircut! He looks like Alfred E. Neuman. A crying Alfred E. Neuman!
Can you get a real coach? And not some bombastic Steve Prefontaine quoting, wife trading, trophy digging, reality TV star?
His boat is in danger of going over Saint Anthony falls and crashing into the mill at the base of Gold Medal Flour.

Check back when you're one of those tough teams. In the meantime stay away from the kettle when you're the pot.

Ferentz has a long history of players changing positions and making the NFL at those positions.

Minnesota has a long history of changing coaches.
KF has NO history of turning QBs into NFL WRs. You need to walk that comment back.

The thing about Stanley that really irks me is that he throws INTs not because he's trying to be overly aggressive and make a play like Tate or Stanzi used to do, but because he's panicking.

That's hardwired. That shit won't change.

Right, Stanley should always be aware of throwing the ball out of bounds, over the heads of nearby defenders. Yesterday he should have thrown it out of the end zone.....

He should keep that option in his mind at all times as a safety factor, a stop gap if you will.....

Stanley stood in the pocket and took the hits, during the interviews but not so much in the game. He is not good at going through his progressions and got "happy feet" early and often. I think he's a stand-up guy, but has no swagger. I think Purdue is very winnable, Michigan State's defense made Purdue's offense looked bad. Iowa can do the same. When Iowa went to the hurry-up late Stanley looked much better, but his accuracy has the look of an Iowa multi-year starter. Everything low and late. That has to be coaching,
Biggest concern from yesterday (after Stanley) was that Hesse, possibly our most consistent defensive player this year, didn't seem to have an impact in the game. Going up against a mobile QB, he didn't seem to set the edge as well.

Future opponents (Northwestern, Nebraska) will be taking notice. We are going to have to account for the Thorsens and the Martinez of the world and not let them extend plays. It was a big concern on these boards going into the game and it bore out.

Mc Sorley was off as much as Stanley yesterday. But he made big plays with his feet. And how about Francis' postgame comment. He said he didn't need simply a pro style QB back there. He needed a dual threat. Mc Sorley had to talk himself back into game. And he backed up his coach's trust with enough big plays.

I'd argue Stanley played well against Wiscy. The scramble and throw to Hock was a thing of beauty. It's a week to week thing though. Credit to PSU for taking advantage of a tremendously off day.

Yeah, but he missed Hock on a big throw that opening drive of the 3rd qtr. A throw where he had protection and time to set his feet. You know better than I that the margin for error is super small with any Iowa offense and inconsistencies by the QB are just a killer.

But his comment was "KF would have turned McSorely into a Safety or a WR"

My point was KF would make McSorely a safety or wide receiver. And, it’s true. Put more clearly, I’d rather have McSorely as my QB over Stanley...by a long shot. No, I’m not comparing Stanley or McSorely to anyone on the Minnesota squad. I was making a jab that your coach would rather play a plodding, innaccurate, choking goof over an accurate, dual threat guy with the IT factor. A decision mostly based on height.

Yeah....we get your point. But you should also understand that same coach you are talking shit about....has had more success doing what you are describing, than your program has had, over the past 20 years. With a half a dozen coaches. That makes you either unaware of the facts or stupid enough to talk shit in spite of the facts.

Stanley's actually had some moments. Last year's ISU game, the Pinstripe Bowl, had an outstanding TD/INT ratio as a first year starter. Now, he's become maddenly inconsistent. And QB's have regressed in their second years whether it's O'Keefe, Davis, or Brian.

On balance, McSorley probably beats Stanley based on intangibles. And yes KF may not have recruited him to play QB.
But your arguement went downhill quickly from there and was easy to pounce on. Your guy, despite all his grandoise pretentions, has not exactly been the second coming of Amos Alonzo Stagg. Kirk coached the pants off him a few weeks ago.

Sad thing is that if McSorley was a Hawkeye, Ferentz would try to make him a safety or a WR. I’m glad you guys have Stanley. He is sure to choke against the tough teams in big games.

Well, maybe the tough teams, maybe. Luckily we still play a few crappy teams.

It was nice of McSorely to throw that pick 6 yesterday. He's great in my book!

Stanley has some big issues. Chuck Long noticed stuff a month ago. And they still are not fixed. And now it looks like his confidence is gone. Bad combo there.

Not QB's, and definitely not WR's. But other positions on the field. But I'm not taking any crap from the fan of a 4-3 team and that joke a coach anymore than I took it from Unknown Badger.

Who gives a shit what Gopher fans say? That’s low hanging fruit. Or having the high school midget retard talk shit to you. Just chuckle and walk away because it’s too mean to pick on handicap kids.

Actually, you are correct. McSorely is NOT a pro-style QB and would not be a good fit for Iowa's pro-style offense. He is a dual threat, and a short one at that. That makes him pretty useless in the pocket unless blocking schemes allow passing lanes to open up. It was quite evident that he is not a pocket passer yesterday; most of his passing yards came by him getting out of the pocket and passing. I'm not saying he isn't a good QB, but most dual threat QBs do not translate well to a pro style offense (thus the fact that most dual threat QBs don't move on to the league).

My take on the game:

Iowa seldom has game changing play makers. This is most evident when the opposing team has quite a few.

Kirk and Brian are poor game time coaches and when panic sets in among the players, they look like they have each been hit about 5 times with a stun gun to the noggin.

This most recent game (or perhaps better named, fiasco) is from a long worn Kirk script. It is who he is as a coach. No need to fight it, best to take the pain, for a bit, then move on.

Iowans like the script for some reason, on many levels (oh sure a few cry out in pain for change) and I so no reason why Kirk can't become the "winning-est coach" in college football history. Plenty of marshmallows out there to play and beat.
This is BS. I'm no KF apologist, I was calling for him to be fired in 2012. But in my mind Brian called a perfect game, KF did fine. This is one loss that fell squarely on the shoulders of one player. He is a college kid and sometimes they f*** up. But to blame this on the Ferentzs' is just idiotic.
